Would be interested to hear from those in the Northern US and Canada as to whether the predicted aurorae actually come about. Would love to be there to see that.:sunny:

That's interesting. I don't know whether we'll see anything in the UK: I live in a relatively low light-pollution area (on The Wash) and, incredibly, we saw Northern Lights from our front drive one dark night some years back. Never since.
Not much to see here unfortunately, this part of the country is just coming off the tail end of a pretty big (rain) storm so the sky was overcast all night :(

Northern Britain and especially Norway is usually as good a place as any to see this kind of thing.

Went out about 23.30 last night but no Northern Lights...
Why was this end of the world news not on the top billing? :hmmm:

So what's stopping you?:hmmm::D
What is very interesting is the fact there is very, very little "hardening" in place to protect the power and communications grids worldwide. Even here in the US, with all our advanced technology, we are vulnerable in the very extreme to a large solar flare storm. The article states an large storm could set us back about 150 years, technology-wise and this actually not a gross exaggeration. Why is it there is no apparent effort to protect us from a very apocalyptic possibility?...
<O>
Some year ago a survey made by the Danish newsprogam TV-Avisen(TV-newspaper) showed that more than 80 or was it 90 % of the Danish electric suppliers(don't know the real English name for it) didn't have any protection against solar flare.
That would mean if a solar flare hit Europe and Denmark we are done.
