View Full Version : i think i have a problem w/ RFB
hey guys, I just RFB and RSRDC and whenever I find a convoy the escorts don't spot me even if i'm like 2 feet away the escorts don't spot me! what's going on?

sometimes the escorts are blind. depending on the war. I've noticed that too.
whenabouts are you sailing? That could provide the answer. by 1943 the Japanese are usually very adamant on subhunting.
I'm sailing in 1941, but this also happens in single missions.

hmm. What other mods, if any, do you have installed?
I believe anything that fiddles with RFB and RSRDC's data might be conflicting and blinding your escorts
Edit: I've performed a convoy attack in 1943 and surfaced within 1000 yards, I think, of a gunboat and didn't get fired upon while I watched a ship sink nearby.
Mod list
RFB 2.0
RFB patch
RSRDC RFB V575
RSRDC v5xx patch

Which leaves the time of attack and the state of the weather...
Darkness is pretty good at hiding you and there were many occurrences of fleet boats surfacing in the middle of a convoy and not being spotted.
I hesitate to say that's the case but I'll do some looking around and see of I can find some answers.
I use RFB and rsrdc as well.
Thanx for your help, sledge, let me know if you find a way to fix this.

after a little messing around, I've come to the conclusion that things are behaving normally for you as they are for me. they really are that blind and on moonless nights one can approach fairly close undetected as long as your cards are played right.
Maybe you're just one stealthy captain.

Would you have any suggestions for my RFB problem?: Patrol 1: no problems, normal framerate, AI behavior, etc. Patrol 2: I get constant updates on task forces, but have no heading, or speed. Cannot use time compression above 64 due to severe lag/framerate drop. Also did a test dive fresh out of port and imploded at 150' in my Salmon class... :nope: I couldn't find the problem so now I use TMO 2.5. I did try to reinstall it, if that helps any.

The updates on task forces don't really include course or speed iirc, they have a certain behaviour and the best our code breakers can do is tell you an approximate location at a certain time and where they are headed.
As for your framerate issue, SH4 is pretty consistent on frames, so either you spawned next to a gigantic task force, your PC was running a virus scan or updating without your knowledge, or something of that nature
As for the crush issue, I haven't experienced that before. Are you using any mods that modify your sub files?

Only mod I was running was RFB 2.0. Am I correct in understanding that RFB modified the file with task force information to make it more historically accurate? My framerate issue was fixed when I uninstalled RFB and switched to TMO. I double checked all scans, defragged, ran Ccleaner, and even went as far as closing all irrelevant processes. My computer has plenty of RAM, and hard drive space to run SH4 on max settings so I was stumped. The only thing I could conclude was that something in my RFB mod file was causing the issues.

I don't think RFB touches the campaign layers. RSRDC is usually the go-to supplement for that. But, I'm not dismissing the chance that a file was corrupted. Maybe try re downloading the RFB mod and the patches that are needed. That may increase your stability and framerate.

I'll have to try that then.

Not sure what the problem is but, what you happen to be viewing has a big impact on frame rates. I was repeating some missions for testing, and I found viewing some ships from close up made frame rates plunge. Normally, I don't notice this, but certain views will tax the graphic capabilities of the software/machine. I doubt it is really due to RFB.

For me, The other thingie around! They spot me like 2nm before my crew spot them! The DD is insanely defensive and calling their mates to converge!:O:
The other ships are like no shot or shoot and all miss!!!:nope::88):/\\!!:/\\!!
When I activate RFB through JSGME it appears ok but when I activate RFB patch I get conflict alerts I hit install anyway which it does but then the RFB in the active side of JSGME goes from black to grey. What does this mean? Is RFB active or not? Other mods can be installed and stay black in the JSGME active box. I haven't noticed any difference in game play. I Play 100% realism.
The conflicts alert means that some things in the enabled mods will be overwritten by the mod you are presently activating (this often happens). The RFB being grayed-out is essentially the same thing. You should not try to disable a grayed-out mod before disabling the later mods that overwrote it.
With RFB 2.0 and the patch, this is normal.

The greying out indicates a mod that has been (at least partially) overwitten by a subsequent mod
