Hi all!
I just returned to the SH-series after some time off, due to raising kids and hard, honest working. You know how it is :)
The long, dark and cold fall is (finally?) coming to Sweden. In other words a perfect time to boot up the old workhorse and step aboard once again! Time to grab my spreadsheets, sharpen my pencil, find that old stopwatch from who-knows-when I got from my grandpa, lend-lease my daughter's pink calculator and brew me some tea. Lovely days ahead.
Anyhow, to get to the point...
* I have this habit, ever since I first started playing the series, to write my own Captain's log. Every new contact is thoroughly observed, followed, indentified and eventually engaged. I.e. "who did what and when". Ofcourse this is something we ALL do when we approach new contacts, but instead of just plot down some numbers and figures on a piece of paper, which will soon look like doodle-art, I tend to keep it clean and neatly in order. Date, time and action. I rather write too much, than too little. Some could say it's slightly OCD-ish. I can't argue with that :)
* The Real Navigation-mods let me come as close to real life naval navigation as possible. To do your own Dead Reckonings and only let your navigator provide you with Celestial plotting a couple of times a day, HIGHLY raises the gameplay. At least for me. (Just started reading up on Celestial Navigation via some handy .pdf's. It's a killer-hard and ruthless world, the nav world, but I plan to survive and come out on the other side)
* I occasionally take strides along the sub and "inspect" hull, gauges, dials. I "talk" to the crew on regular basis. Even "sleep" in captain's bed if it's possible, depending on the situation and time of the day. By doing this I get a "feel" for the sub and crew, which let me take percausion on patrols. Don't want to risk me, my sub or my crew a painful death just because I rushed into that other convoy on broad daylight.
This is how "nerdy" I am during game-sessions. I certainly got more to share but this will do for now.
Now it's your turn :)
I CAN'T be the only one doing this, can I?
ps. HUGE shout-out to all the modders who made this game, and serie, become some of my absolute all-time favourite games. The stock-version is USELESS, at least for a guy like me. No offence Ubi, you sewed the linen, but the heroes of Subsim modding-community did the painting.
