The modification has finally been released for Medieval: Total War 2 after seven years in development and it's looking great.
If you don't know this mod, then you must be living under a Total War rock.

:o  :know:

I wonder if they intend to do a 3 for Rome 2? :hmmm:

Either which way, a welcome addition, EB1 was absolutely stellar.

Hopefully, but if the time frame for the development of 2 is anything to go by, it could take a decade or so! :haha:

I've been playing it now for a few hours and I must say it is absolutely fantastic. Just as with EB1, the amount of effort the team put in is inspirational. They really are dedicated.

TW2 and Rome 1 I played ad nauseum. Is this mod now "only" a visual overhaul, or did they improve the AI as well, especially when it comes to city battles (always the very weak spot of the series) ?

I then understand it as that the AI is the same, untuned?

Could be that the AI is something that cannot be modded. I don't recall EB I, or any other mod that changed the AI very much. :hmmm:

I don't think the AI has been touched.
EB has always been a historical authenticity mod.
It's an overhaul of everything really, bar the AI, which I am unaware can even be modded?

So in battle it is the same gameplay, with improved looks.

I could go back to and live again with the field battle AI. But the lousy city battle AI - no, I am beyond that. This mod comes a little bit late then, sorry. :)

EB2 changes much more than just looks, Governments, Units, Unit recruitment, reforms, they even gave a mechanic for the castles for use in nomadic factions, you name it, and yes the AI is modified, though right now the Campaign AI is a bit passive.

EB2 is still very early right now, (for example only about half the units they've planned are in) but it's amazing even so.

They have also improved the difficulty, which actually makes fighting against the AI quite a challenge. As mentioned above, it is a complete overhaul of the game. Everything has been improved. My personal favourite feature is the native languages for units and characters. It's quite immersive.
