I'm stuck on a train here...
I played this terrific game right through to the end on the Playstation once, but now I've returned to it on the pc I can't for the life of me remember how or where to find the b key, hidden somewhere on this b train, to unlock the b end carriage. Can any of you Kriegies remember??
Yes I KNOW it's an old game (Been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and ArmA like I know I should) but I like to keep in touch with solid old timers like this.
In a very similar vein, anyone played "Prisoner of War"? If so, please visit my thread "WW2 PoW stuff"... and I think we could do with some more b help in "Crazy Bald Heads" too.

If I remember right, the key to unlock the door in the last carriage is in the guards compartment all the way at the front of the train, and then you'll have to fight your way past some guards before you can re-enter the train.

The only The Great Escape game I played was this one:

Hallo again, Kptlt. Hellmut!
This is indeed what I thought too (remembering from before) but when I get up to what is apparently the Guard's Van, there's no way to get up on the roof like I remember (you'd then go down a ladder on the SIDE of the Van and swing into an open door where you could hide and wait for the guard. And I can't jump across to the Guards Van roof from the previous carriage either in the pc game; I seem to remember being able to do this before.
Anyway, I think you're right and that I'm just missing something. I'm not as fit as I was the last time I played this.
Astonished that I got a reply to this really, so good for you and thanks!

No problem, and I watched a YT vid on that level and/or mission you need to get to carriage number 5, that's where the ladder is to get to the roof of the train, from there it's a few jumps to the guards van. Just mind the signal gantries and tunnels going to and coming back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7G4smE1KrY

Oh the far distant memories :)I was too young to know what to do in that one, but hey, I can say I owned and played it! :) I really liked Escape from Colditz I had on Amiga! Great game!
Dang, so many good games they had back then. Speedball II, so good!

Well I think I'm going to remain stuck on this train along with you, Ainsley, since there seems to be no "jump" keybinding for the pc game. How're we supposed to jump from one carriage roof to the next... I'll let you know if I find out. :/\\!!
PS/ I'm going to have another look this evening...

Well I tried again, Ainsley, but it looks as though you and I are going to remain stuck on this flaming train, mate. The video clip provided by Helmut shows what you do in the Playstation version: you JUMP from carriage 4 roof to carriage 3 roof, then climb down into the open doorway on the side of carriage 3.
But in this pc version you CANNOT JUMP; there is no possibility to jump in this version and if you just run at it you'll fall between the carriages.
I'm out of ideas...

To jump from one traincar roof to another, you simply press the "action" key (E, or whatever you have assigned) just as you reach the edge (at running speed). As you do so, you may notice a red-outlined white arrow appears just above the compass icon, showing the "action" to be performed. This isn't made clear enough in the manual, to my mind.
Anyway, once you are thus able to leap onto the roof of car 3, you can then climb down the ladder on the RIGHTHAND SIDE and progress the mission.
