Hi guys,

I have a problem to get SH3 running with my normal resolution of 1920x1200.
It only works with 1024x768 else I have to disable the fullscreen mode.

I know this topic and I can not find a solution for my problem:

I just want to ask you guys if that is right, that SH3 only is playable with 1024x768?
There is no mod to make it run with 1920x1200?

First question are you running an Nvidia card? If so you need to roll the drivers back quite some way I use 266.58. Only these will work for me else I get the same error.

The mod I use to run the same res is res-fix mod not sure on the exact name I'll post it when I get home from work.

Best regards.

Yes I have a GTX580 Phantom. A rollback is no option because I also want to play newer games too.

I installed Living Silent Hunter 3 v5.1
This includes a Resolution Fix but as I know this is only for running it in 16:9 instead of 4:3. It's not affecting the resolution itselfe.

You might want to check the LSH3 installation manual. Top of Page 19: "It changes the screen resolution for all Windows operating systems to 1280x1024 Pixel." (Emphasis theirs.)

The HiRes fix does not run SH3 in 16:9, only 4:3. If your card does not support 1280x1024, then you have to change the d3d9.cfg to a rez your card will like, and that rez must be 4:3 aspect. You can also try setting your card's rez to 1280x1024 manually before launching the game, if for some reason your card is not auto-switching.

There is only one mod I know that let's you play SH3 at a true rez of 1920x1080. That is Van1920x1080. Check here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=213527 The mod is only compatible with NYGM and Hitman's GUI - You must have both of these mods activated or it will not work. It will not support LSH3, GWX, or stock.

You mean the manual of the original game? Is there a PDF on the CD or where can I find it?

So it would be possible to set it to 1600x1200 by editing the d3d9.cfg??? :o

I repeat: "...the LSH3 installation manual." Proper name: LSH3_V5.1_Installation_EN.pdf. It is always a good idea to read the documentation which comes with a mod before trying to install it. LSH3 has a lot of documentation and it is all valuable if you want to know how to set up and use the mod.

Probably not. First, does your card support 1600x1200? My NVidia 540M doesn't. Second, some of the SH3 screens have buttons which are hard-coded, and require special handling if you change the rez by very much. I was referring to a tweak: Rubini's, CONUS' and Makman's widescreens mods all come with a d3d9.ini set for 1360x768. My card supports 1366x768, not 1360x768. So I get the "Cannot initiate 3D engine." error until I change 1360 to 1366. That's a very small change and works fine. Changing to 1600x1200, maybe not. But it costs nothing to try.

Yep I know what you mean, that's why I tend to play SH3 in spasms. Roll back driver, play sh3. Clean uninstall/reinstall of new driver and get new game support. Best of both worlds in my book. But each to his own, btw I only ever install the video drivers and Physx, and use a custom clean install.

The res fix should you want it is here;

Ahhhh.. sorry, I overlooked the "L" in LSH3.
I read the manual of course. Sadly the resolution fix did nothing.
LSH3 is running at 1024x768.

Oh man... thats to complicated for me. I think I will install a virtual machine with WinXP to run LSH3.

I'm using the hi-res fix and edited that config file to make it work. Been a while since I did it so I don't remember the specifics.

It plays full screen but everything is stretched slightly horizontally. Also if I try to make screen shots I crash to desktop.

Ditto what Steve said, nothing else works 16:10 sadly, so if you can live with a little stretch........................

Best regards.
