So I had basically modded SH4 to be my go to game for US operations, and after a few patrols here and there, I found myself wanting to go back to some of the German/Atlantic Operations.

No sweat. I installed SH5 and the Wolves of Steel Mega Mod...let's just suffice it to say that UBI really, really screwed the pooch on SH5. The modders did a fantastic job and made it bearable, but I've since uninstalled SH5 and have instead placed all of my SH4 US based mods into a backup folder, and now my SH4 is currently set up using the Operation Monsun super mods for German operations in the Atlantic...

Here's where I'm getting frustrated though. There's several start dates for deployment to France using Operation Monsun. I want to start at Brest U-Boat Base and get assigned missions from there. So I choose a career on those start dates, but it appears to me that you must always start at Kiel and work you way to your new base in France. I despise traveling the canal, so I pick a later start date, and finally, I'm defaulted to starting in Brest!

YAY! I think...but no, it shouldn't be. Though I'm starting in Brest, I'm being assigned missions for the campaign that begins in the Mediterranean, reassigned to bases near Italy, and given patrols near Egypt.

Do any of you more experienced Op Monsun users know of a date I can pick or a way I can start in Brest or Lorient and still have Atlantic missions without having to drive my ugly ass down the Kiel canal? Plotting the course is bad enough, but most of the time I can't get past 8x time compression while trying to navigate it.

EDIT: Ok, now I wish I can delete topics. I don't know how I missed it, but I kept thinking that for some reason, BDU Deployment to France was the only option to start in France, which of course is more to simulate taking over command of a sub commissioned in Kiel. *Forehead Slap* I finally figured out that if you chose the other options, you'll start in St. Naziere or whatever. So I'm really sorry for cluttering up the forums with my stupidity.

I've been doing this alot lately. Sorry everyone, lol.

Dear Idiot ... Welcome home brother.

Sometimes I hate to do it but I drive myself to start as early as possible player the U-Boat side. I want to go as long as possible without dieing. I have yet to get past mid 1943 without dieing while having a start date in 39.

I have started later and then went longer. I do feel the drudgery of being stationed so far north and always given a patrol around North Russia time and time again. I have been often accused of disobeying orders which I am happily guilty and disregarding my patrol zone for better fishing spots.

I will travel the north shipping lanes to America. The North West zone entering southern Irish Waters and I will happily go to Gibraltar where the fish is non stop tonnage. From 39 to 43 it is almost impossible to sink me.

Those buggers got better in the software after 43 however and they tend to become more aggressive and certainly a bit better at finding my slow wake underwater.

My worst death was a shallow area where I had a Hedgehog attack blow up as they hit my bow and hit all around the bow on the sea bed. The concussion from the blast was strong enough to lift my boat to the surface and the software thinking it was where I wanted to be did not go back down underwater ...

That was followed by four ships blasting me to crab morsels with their deck guns.

The only saving grace was that some sailors were able to abandon ship and swim to shore which was only a few hundred meters away.

Warm welcomes ...

Good God, I'm surprised they didn't turn the guns on the men trying to tread water to get to shore!

Wow...I'm not the best captain there ever was. I'm lucky to get torpedo hits on vessels in early '40 whilst using automatic aiming. But ya know, I'll see what I can do. I'll probably get some stories going!

Thanks for the welcome back to Silent Hunter 4! :arrgh!:

Allow me to leap on the welcome bandwagon. As soon as I found OM it became my absolute favourite version of the game to play - Unlike Merc' though I have yet to survive to 1943, but that hasn't always been my fault

Anyway - Wilkommen Kaleun! :Kaleun_Cheers:

Operation Monsun also seems to be far less buggy than many other mods.
