Hi there,

I got a weird problem. I was trying to sneak into a port. It didn't work very well. Barely managed to get away. My S-18 was pretty damaged, but we were alive and thankful.

Both my diesels and electric engines were damaged. I got them all repaired, and even though I am able to move underwater, I can't get my diesels to run while on the surface. I have checked the damage screen, and everything seems to be ok. Hull condition is at 27. Still I can't move nor recharge my batteries while on the surface.

I am playing stock v1.4 and have a couple of Webster's mods going along with it. I have tried to save and reload the game without any succes.

Any suggestions?

head for home port and get repaired

there is a clickable item on task(tool ) bar that engages battery recharge on and off, make sure you have it selected to recharge

or you have damage that you can not repair so....game over, start again......

I wish I could, but I'm not able to use the diesels.

You'll have to reload a save from before the damage. Well known bug, if the engines or rudder are destroyed there's nothing to tell you that other than they don't work. If they don't work there's nothing you can do about it.

I see. Thanks for replying.

In short, the stock game has some things that get destroyed very easy, such as engines and only uses two. Mods like TMO beef the engines up, they can get damaged badly, but do repair in time, this better mimics 4 engines.

So, yea, if they're destroyed, it's game over or head home on 1kt...see ya in a year.

Well, I guess this will be the end of this career then.

But it was fun anyway. You guys should have watched me evade destroyers and aircraft for hours in a sub that was unable to maintain depth by itself in shallow waters. Really this was against all odds to say the least.

I guess I will use the remaining battery power to find a nice little tropical island for me and my crew to spend the rest of the war. Perhaps some scientists will find us in the late 1960's, and we will ask, if the war is over. They will say, it's not, and I will say:

"Son, I am talking about world war II." :arrgh!:

If you can make it to Luzon, or a friendly place, you can scuttle your sub and make your way to friendly forces (*maybe*). Uncle Sam can always build you another boat.
