Hi Guys

I have read the RFB PDF reademe but I cannot see a mention of what the ‘Control Room’ 6 empty slots are for?

I understand that the 3 OOD’s go in the 3 ‘Conning Tower’ slots.

‘Hogans Alley’ has only 6 empty slots.

This where I get confused.

Quote > "Move the remaining watch crew members to 'Hogans' Alley.'

Quote > "It is highly recommended to move them in a logical fashion, such as by watch section, in order to make it easier to move them back to the deck watch stations.

Quote > "Proper watch sections can be sorted out later."

What happens to the 3 sections of the 4 ‘Deck Crews that are left = 12 persons?

Do 6 go in the ‘Control Room’ and 6 Go in ‘Hogans Alley?’

You cannot get 12 in 'Hogan's Alley.'

ok, now I think I know what you are asking. so.

all watch crew go into hogan's alley when you are going to be attacked,.

Gun crew: I used my torp crew members as gunners........hope this helps?

Hi captgeo

Thanks for your reply, but have I now ended up with more questions than answers?

I hope not.

Are you saying that you only move the ‘Active Deck Watch 4 crew members to ‘Hogan’s Alley?’

The other 8 that are not on watch do they stay where they are?

If so, why do you need to move the 2 OOD’s not on watch to the ‘Conning Tower?’

It is this paragraph that is confusing as it implies that you are dealing with more than one watch section.

Quote > "Proper watch sections can be sorted out later." The way this is worded implies that you are dealing with more than one watch.

I hope you have the answer as I am still very confused by all this.

yes, you move the active members and ALL the others not active into hogans alley, that way they will not be killed in DC attack.

what I used to do was start at the top deck ( tower ) crew and place them into hogans alley in descending order, that way you can easily put them back in order.

Hi George

Your explanation sounds to me that you are layering them on top of each other, 3 layers of 4 slots = 12.

Is that right?

there are 12 slots in Hogan's Alley and 12 deck sailor's so each has its own slot, gun crew is seperate, if you use torpedomen for them then they already have a slot back in the torp room, or where ever you used them from....

I played RFB 1.5 so if anything has changed then I have no idea ..there were 12 slots in Hogan's Alley in 1.5

just read about that 6 slots in HA and the Control room, I would go out on a limb and say to fill each with 6 and not worry about it, but that seems wrong to me, 12 slots in HA was great and straight forward to me

Hi George

This v2.0 version has only 6 slots in HA.

There are 6 spare slots in the 'Control Room.'

All slots empty in 'Damage Control.'

I think I will put 6 in HA and 6 in DC.

Do you think the 6 slots spare in CR are for additional crew?

The readme says put the rest in HA that would be correct as the readme is for v1.5 and like you said there were 12 slots.

There is no readme for v2.0

Can you remember if there were 6 spare slots in the CR in v1.5?

Hi George

Just found the answer in RFB_2.0_Patch_23April2010 readme

Quote > "Added 6 empty planesmens slots in the control rooms for all American boats."

Quote > "2 enlisted men from each watch should be placed here when the boat is submerged."

I wonder why they changed it from v1.5.

It would be easier to put back 3 lots of 4 rather than now 3 lots of 2 and another 3 lots of 2.

I think that it was easier to leave it the way it was in 1.5,

you would have to ask the MOD maker why they would do this, makes no sense to me :k_confused:

Anyone remaining on deck whether active or inactive is considered to be on deck and can be killed by DC or Air attack.

Best practice is to only have enough crew to serve internally and move some of those to deck watch or guns when needed and remove them from those stations and back inside when underwater or under attack.

When in port I fill the internal body of the submarine + 6. Those 6 may go to Hogan's Ally when under water or under attack.

3 lots of 2 is a more realistic duty station watch formation. In port you have four watch sections at sea only three. Each watch section would have two planesman.
