greetings all:
just acquired a new windows 7 computer and need to reinstall SH3, but have neither hard copy nor digital anymore.

need help in finding another copy that will work with windows 7.

I see that amazon has a few different choices from which to choose, but I thought I'd consult the collective wisdom of the group as I've been away for quite some time.

any and all help will be most appreciated

Cheers!

Amazon. If you download it you will have the latest Starforce-free version. If you get it on disc make sure it says 2006 or newer. Either way if you go there via the tab in the top right corner Subsim will get a small cut, at no extra cost to you. :sunny:

Welcome back! The escorts are just as nasty! :yeah:

Some don't like Steam, but I have my latest version from there and it works fine.

Yes, it is a download, but since you are probably going to download tons of mods anyway...

thanks for the welcome. been away far too long. miss the smell of the diesel-tainted salt air and the wind in my face as I'm cruising the north atlantic in my canoe ;)

I thought about steam, but never really got the hang of it. I heard I could get sniper elite there, but that never workd out for me.
you you need some type of steam emulator or something?

You basically just go and buy it, but yes Steam will install its app on your computer. And you will need net access to play the game.

There are a couple of quirks to watch out for when adding mods... Steam installs in a place that mods are not looking for ... but they are peanuts.

But I am by no means an advocate one way or the other. Steam worked for me and that was enough, but if I had discs handy I would have gone that route.

far better off getting the disc, I have steam for other games and I find it a pain in the ass......

the disc well you know if there are problems you have it to install again, and again.

I'am a Steam user me too and just for clarification: you do not need net access to play the game. You just need to login when you launch the Syeam client but if you computer do not have internet access in that moment Steam will start in "offline" mode and let you play your games offline, a thing I done almost always (I launch Steam in "online" mode only to look at the store, read news, buy stuff and download, but almost always I play my games in "offline mode" so I can kill off my antivirus software).

I'm playing the Steam version of SH3 from Feb/March 2014, GWX supermod plus many others mods, plus (recently) SH3C and I have not had a single problem till now (using a laptop with Win7, 32 bit).
Btw, I didn't try any exe patch version.

Actually, if you buy the Steam version and then apply patches, you don't even need to use Steam again, online or offline.

Just follow the recommended installation process for the various patches.
