View Full Version : I borked my saves.

I'm not really sure what I did. I've searched around the forums and the only thing I could find that seemed relevant was saving the game while submerged. I've had my watch team pokin' about outside the sub while at periscope depth on multiple occasions...

Does this really cause your saves to corrupt? Is there anything else I should watch out for? I did uninstall SH3 Commander, but I reverted to a save before I had ever installed it.

At the moment, I can't even seem to revert to an older save. If I load mid-mission that game crashes shortly after the "Not So Long Ago..." message appears. If I start a new patrol from port, the game crashes, not right away, but after a few minutes of play.

Strangely, saved missions in other careers also seem knackered.

Still new to SHIII, still new to all the quirks that come with it. I'm running GWX with a few of the optionals enabled, as well as H.Sie's Hardcoded Fixes and Conus' Widescreen GUI.

There are several things that may corrupt saves.

The general rule of thumb is this:

Only save when surfaced and not within "game sight" of any shipping.

By game sight I mean you may not be able to see the ships but if they are within 16 km the game is aware of them being nearby you.

Question: Can you load the game and run a historic mission, not a career?

Have you got any backup copies of your saves?

If the game will run, but just not a career save, then it is the save files. If the game still crashes running an in-game historic mission, then the corrupt file is a game file. If using a mod manager, uninstall all mods and then test a game mission load. If it runs OK the corrupt file was a mod file.

If you re-install, first copy your MyDocuments folder where SH3 files are to the desktop. After re-install, and after testing a good load, put back the mods you were using and test load a mission again. Then copy the above files back to MyDocuments. See if you can load a save file.

Sorry, re-install has to include the same mod list as used, in order.
