Reserved.
Looking forward to it too.
Right, I will be heading out for the taxi in about ten minutes, and all things being equal I will see you chaps at Chelmsford at 10:30. I'll text Tarjak if we don't make the 10:30 and need to take the 10:58.
Looking forward to meeting you chaps. :salute:

Part one of that plan has worked then.
Got to York safe and sound no stolen limos or missed airport connections.Caught up with Jim, Tony, Anze, Jamie and Gemma. Enjoying the first pint now.
Well, getting to Chelmsford was entertaining, the Ipswich train was delayed by 12 mins because the front coach was packed with more cycles than the Tour De France! Still the guard and driver did their best, and we managed to get the 10:58 to Chelmsford...only to have seven Mexicans with about fourteen very large suitcases which they proceeded to block the gangway with. A scramble over the cases later got us alighted at Chelmers where Tarjak and Betonov were realizing that East Anglia closes on Sunday.
The official Subsim UK meet hats were handed out (who knew that Australia had SSGs, and they were Oberons too) and greetings exchanged, so this is the man I've flown 109s with.and the man I've built square Minecraft factories with. It's a pleasure to meet them both.
So, into the Ford Galaxy we gathered and off to York we went with periodic 'Are ye ther' yet?' calls from Jim on the way.
York was reached about three to four hours later and we checked into our very nice Hotel and then met Jimbuna and Herr B in the pub next door, greetings were exchanged and we talked shop over a pint of IPA (and a vodka and coke for the missus). Then Jim, bless him, handed out the gifts he'd brought us, and we posed outside for the official Subsim UK meet group shots which will no doubt be posted later. We strolled into the city through The Shambles and down to the river, to show Betonov the sights. Then we invaded the local Waites for dinner, many attempts were made to get the location of Jims mystery station to no avail, and then we RTB'd to the hotel. The guys went to the pub to watch the footie while me and the wife turned in.
Tomorrow is a trip into the city, York Air Museum and the National Railway Museum so Betonov can see the fastest steam locomotive in the world!

Yep not much thought of photographers when positioning exhibits.
Drinking Anze's schnapps.vl Bugger me it's paint stripper.

OK, here it is. A pic of Grant and Anze in our (Jim and me) room. On the wall about head height is the TV. Directly below as a conventional hot water radiator, on the other wall is an electric panel heater.

Pretty obvious Tony and I have returned home safely so I await similar news from the other four tearaways.
grateful thanks to you all for making the effort to attend and make what was a fantastic 2 1/2 days, I only wish it could have been longer.
@Anze...I will be thinking of you hanging around Stanstead until 7am tomorrow my friend but top marks for getting here....pure SubSim Ninja attitude :sunny:
Picture and stories to follow no doubt but mine may take a little longer than usual because of current pooter technicalities.

Just arrived back in deepest darkest Essex after the drive back doon Sooth. Jamie, Gemma and Anze all delivered to their respective drop off points.
Anze has a bit of a wait for his plane so hope he gets home ok.
It was a real pleasure meeting you all.
I'll see if I can get a working link to some photos but all the ones on the camera will have to wait a few weeks till I get home.
I dunno, I spend three days with an Aussie, get back and then have to help next door with a snake problem. Fortunately it was just a grass snake, unfortunately she'd already brained the poor bugger before she brought it round so I had to put it out of its misery. :nope:
Chaps, it was an absolute pleasure, major thanks to Tarjak for the transportation and sorting the accommodation, and the excellent headgear, and thanks to Jim for the gifts. It was a great time, and brilliant to meet you all. :D

City class 'City of Truro' alledgedly the first locomotive in the world to break 100mph, but sadly done without a dynamometer car so the record was not officially broken until Flying Scotsman took it in 1934, some thirty years later.

A proper 'Charlie', Bulleids Q1 freight locomotive, nicknamed 'Charlies' and 'Coffee pots' because of their unusual shape, they were designed to be cheap to build, light-weight (to run on most loading gauges), easy to maintain and powerful despite their weight.

As we left the rail museum one of the gang spotted the tractor train which ran a thirty minute service to The Minster....so after much crying and wailing "I want to go on the too too" we eventually relenterd and climbed onboard.

Much to my surprise *cough* just down the road from The Minster we stumbled across what must be a rarity these days, a high street model shop and double gosh this shop sold diecast. I couldn't resist the temptation and upon browsing I stumbled across two more pieces for the collection, a Desert War Puma and a SAR Sea King.

Jamie - how much for a family room at your work, next Wednesday? (four people, three adults and a child.)
Between £185 and £225 depending on whether you want a sea view or inland view facing room (price could be a bit higher since the online booking form only goes up to two people). You'd have to have a chat with reception about room arangements since the rooms are pretty small, you might be better off with two adults in one room and the third adult and child in another room.
I can give you the number via PM if you like?

Coronation Scot/Duchess class footplate from the drivers position
and finally
LBSCR B1 'Gladstone' class, as decorated for Queen Victorias Diamond Jubilee.
:salute:
Aaaand, even though no-one asked for it, a quick overview of what is what on the footplate photo:
http://i.imgur.com/Jgzk3Ma.jpg
1. Regulator - The throttle of the locomotive, opening it up releases steam from the 'steam chest' into the cylinders via two valves. The second valve opens if the regulator is pushed over half-way, thus increasing the steam flow dramatically.
2. Reverser - The 'gear' of the locomotive, this controls the forward or reverse motion of the loco, and also the 'cutoff' which helps aid steam economy. Your fireman will prefer it if you wind the reverser back as the locomotive goes faster as he will have to shovel less coal in order to keep the locomotive generating steam. :yep:
3. Ejectors small and large - These help control the vacuum generation in the brakes.
4. Brakes - These are pretty much as they sound, the steam locomotive generates a vacuum which releases the brakes, the vacuum is then destroyed gradually to increase the brakes. This particular system works so that if a train is cut in two for whatever reason (usually coupling failure) the brakes automatically activate as air enters the vacuum pipes and destroys the vacuum.
5. Injectors - These control the rate of water from the tender into the boiler, it's important not to let the water level get too high or too low. Too low and the lead 'fusible plugs' melt and let water onto the firebox to prevent excessive heat damage to the firebox, too high and water will leak through into the cylinders and causing 'priming' which can make the cylinders explode. There are two types of injector, exhaust and live steam, exhaust uses the power of the engines exhaust to put water into the boiler, this is useful when you're running at speed, not so useful when you're stationary. Live steam uses steam generated by the engine to move the water, this is good when you're stationary but not so good at speed when you're trying to nurse every lb/square inch of steam that you can to stop the engine from tiring out. Bear in mind that the water level in the boiler doesn't remain still as the engine is moving, gradients can change the level, as can acceleration and decceleration. So generally speaking it's best to keep the water level no higher than 75% and no lower than 25% to give you a little leeway.
5. Whistle - lets steam into a fluted cylinder which generates a loud noise, devised as a safety mechanism to warn people and livestock that a seventy ton wall of iron, hot coal and steam was going to run over them if they didn't move. Comes in different octaves!
6. Sander - The laws of physics dictates that metal on metal does not cause enough friction if a lubricant is added between them, such as leaves, water, or snow, thus slipping can occur. This is a bad thing in most situations but particularly so when trying to brake a train that weighs over a hundred tons and is travelling at forty miles an hour and rapidly approaching a red signal or a platform. Likewise it's a bad thing when the locomotives wheels go a hundred and fifty miles an hour while the locomotive itself is going about five, it tends to result in deep grooves in the rails, and the locomotive self-destructing if left unchecked. Thus, sand is blown from boxes onto the rails in front or behind (depending on the running direction) in order to give the wheels something to grip onto.
Amazing what you pick up after 291 hours of Train Simulator. :yep:
Seats aboard the bullet train were at a premium, so Jamie made sure he go in first:
