Everybody's got one... (Or two, or three...or like me, more)

Post 'em here. I'm interested in seeing what everybody likes. :arrgh!:

Just a couple of mine:

Saleen S302 Yellow Label - It's a Mustang...and it puts out 625 horses....and it's Saleen. I'm a big fan of Saleen's stuff.

http://soec.org/wp-soec/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/press_03_2012_SMS_302_Yellow_Label.jpg

Saleen S7 - While we're on the topic, I figure I'd include one of the best supercars ever (IMHO)

http://wordpress.carthrottle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/saleen-s7.jpeg

Ford GT - The other Great American Supercar

http://www.gtspirit.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/image00009-1.jpg

Ford Escort Mk. 1 - Ford Europe gets the cool compact cars. It's apparent that i'm a Ford guy I guess.

http://gomotors.net/photos/a2/ab/hjulspindk_90e62.jpg

1965 Shelby GT350 - C'mon. It's a Shelby Mustang.

http://images.thecarconnection.com/med/1965-66-shelby-gt350-prototype_100316192_m.jpg

1973 Ford XB Falcon GT - Mad Max and the guys down under got another really cool car that we didn't get up here. I'd totally get a Mad Max replica.

http://www.di-customcars.ca/projects/Partial/Mad%20Max/MadMax1.jpg

1998 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo - This thing is a beast with the twin turbos

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab256/Nfmader/stuff/1998_toyota_supra_2_dr_turbo_hatchback-pic-17106.jpg

Audi S1 Quattro - You can't like cars and NOT like the Audi Quattros

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/03/03-1984-audi-sport-quattro-s1-rally.jpg

2005 Saleen N2O Focus - Back to Saleen....taking my favorite (only) car i've ever owned (and fell in love with even though mine was a sedan) and making it awesome. Way better than the SVT Hatchback

This is just a few. :arrgh!: Some realistic...most not.

Toyota Hilux, 4th generation (I don't like the new ones)
http://www.brian894x4.com/HiluxGerman2002blueocean.jpg

And then a simple low maintenance convertable, like a Saab
http://viper.dragtimes.com/img/saab.jpg

Or this little BMW Z3

You can get those in the St. Louis area...little turbo cars...for very little.

You can get one easy for under $2k :) Nice little cars. I don't see very many out my way but I like them. Not so much the convertible models but still.

I considered going to look at some of the coupe models for sale.

@BossMark....I didn't like any of the Corvettes until I saw that new Stingray model. That thing is freakin' sweet.

Hmmm, you know they're GM/Vauxhall, and that means they're not the robust inventions they once were, and virtually no modern car is 'simple low maintenance'. (smaller cars may be the exception here)

For me, ever since I saw one in Germany in 2000/01 I've wanted a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4.

Pic to follow.

I got one of those in the early 80s. It burned more oil than fuel after a while :yep: but what a lot of fun in the backseat. We were young and had no money...

Dreamcars?

It all depends on what quality of gas you want to run through it too. Higher octane gas will probably run better but it'll be more expensive. Especially for you Euro guys who pay by the liter.

It can drive on any thing and if i should use gasoline it would drive about 300 miles on a liter.

it can fly about 100-150 meters above ground.

It has a cloaking device

You can't hear the car even if I have the pedal to the metal

As I said the car isn't built yet.

My father once owned Jaguar 4.2 litre XJ6 when I was a young teen and at 14 or so miles to the gallon (a lot of fuel usage in those days) it was well worth the driving experience when he was away on business.

I'm a tad surprised I never killed myself or anyone else for that matter.

When a friend of mine say something like

"WOW if I only could win the Lottery, then I will buy such a car"

"My reply:
Why? We are only allowed to go as fast as 130 km/h on some distances on our freeway and a car like that is made for high speed higher than these 130 km/h or do you consider these traffic law not for you

Therefor there are only two places where you can drive faster, in Germany on their freeway or at a special area for Formula racing.

I got that puppy up to 120 and still had pedal left. I backed off to 90 because it started raining. I checked the rear view mirror and noticed that the back window wasn't even wet. Talk about a good slipstream design.:D The 318 was bulletproof too. In my hunt for a new car, I've found two good candidates.

2001 Ford Focus identical to the one I used to have only it's an 01 and it's blue

1986 Dodge Shelby Charger Turbo :)

Focus - $2600
Shelby Charger - $900

Both are in great condition. Both are FWD. Both are Inline 4-Cylinder engines. :hmmm:

That's what I'm thinking. The Ford Focus saved my life. I know it's for sure going to be a good car.

However, the Shelby Charger is unique. It's turbocharged but it shouldn't get too bad gas mileage. You can only do so bad with a 5-speed 4-cylinder.

I want to look and see if I can get a Fox-Body Mustang under $3000. If I can't get one of those, I'll definitely go for the Focus or Charger. My parents, in the end, have a lot of influence over whatever I buy.

You certainly do not need a 'go fast' car. You need a 'transportation' car (the Focus). But far be it for me to tell you what you do or do not need.

Yeah, i'm not looking for something fast. Those Shelby Chargers topped at 175 HP.

Fox-Body Mustangs came in 4-cylinder models along with the V8....I believe there may have been V6's too....but those are usually pretty cheap. Only problem is finding one in good condition that isn't a convertible.

I would go with the focus it is the lower cost to own.Better MPG it has better saftey features than an 80's car.

I'd avoid the charger that turbo is more than likely on its last legs and turbocharged engines have shorter life spans an addtional negative they require high octane fuel while a focus will run fine on 87. The Charger was rated @ 20/27 mpg when new so yeah gas guzzler. The specs that I can find list the shelby turbo @ 146hp after 28 years you might get 125hp so in fact a focus will have about the same output or better.

You want for basic transportation the vechile that will be easy to keep running. Also if you get into another accident do you what a less common car or one with an airbag? With an older ride you accept the added risk of older saftey equipment. Not worth the trade off when the driver has less experiance. Not saying you are bad driver but you do lack experiance.

And that's another very good point. Turbo engines don't last that long.

The turbine bearings also wear overtime and need replacement. If not replaced they stick & the turbine blows apart. Then you loose a large portion of output.

So they're bringing back the GT350 with the 2016 Mustang

The prototype nearly crashed (http://blog.caranddriver.com/2016-ford-mustang-gt350-prototype-spins-nearly-crashes-at-the-ring-photos/) on the Nurburgring.

Car and Driver says they expect it to be unveiled in the next few weeks. :woot:

Well if you have a V8 engine pushing 1,000hp you'll have a fairly rapidly accelerating vehicle. Not really that shocking to me personally. Also to Germans sped is a whole different ballgame. You'll see cars traveling well past 160MPH over on some sections of the autobahn.Once at night in the fall got a 1987 BMW M3 up to 235KMH(146MPH) that was just an inline 4 cylinder with a few modifications even at that speed I got passed that is actually the fastest I have even driven a vehicle that I was physically driving. Now I rode once with a German friend in a "Yellow Bird" (RUF) Porsche 911 we got to 323KMH(201MPH).

It's also a BMW....BMW is allowed to go that fast casually in a road-going 4-cylinder. I'd love to have an older M3. :yeah:

They produced a 4 cylinder F1 racing engine that said squeezed out 1400HP in 1986.

That M3 is easily my favorite past vechile I did not keep it as in order to ship a car to the US they require the car to meet FDOT emission standards for the year of manufacture and any US spec BMW is less powerful than Euro spec.

That car had outstanding steering though and a great transmission it was not a cozy car though pure performance the clutch was strong so much so that a person not used to manual transmissions would have a very hard time. But in that car I truly felt like one with the car, myself and the road. I miss driving down the hilly back roads of Rheinland-Pfalz. I drove that car many places though every western European country except the British Isles. I also drove in the Czech Reublic and Slovakia. A Slovakian cobblestone road took out the oilpan once had to pay a high price on that they knew supply and demand and for me need was high.

It's something like you have to wait 25 years after a car is discontinued before you can import it as a collectors item or something. Idk.

I hope that Saleen focus is awd other wise might be a hairy drive.

Now a German car not likely to be found on anyones dream car list would be the early 80's VW Scirrico. What a crap car horrible electrical system. A buddy had one it seemed to always fail at the worst times. Might be the dash lights in a pitch dark night or the starter. We more often than not had to roll start and pop the clutch. Luckily we where either on base or could find some Germans to help us get rolling. There where several "art" if you can call it that scirricos and jettas that had custom grafitti jobs just to liven them up.

Now a fairly good but often overlooked German car is the Porsche 924\944 series (I'll personally fire bomb anyone who calls it "porsh" its not a part of your house). I knew a couple in the air force who had a 944 that they tracked on the weekends it got totaled though because they kept the track tires on it and crashed into another car in the rain.

I hope that Saleen focus is awd other wise might be a hairy drive.

The Saleen S121 actually has a less powerful engine and one less gear than my SVT. Instead of the far superior Zetec, they went for the 2.0L Duratec.

My factory tuned Zetec puts out 170HP while the base S121 puts out (I find contradicting numbers on various websites for the S121) between 140 and 160HP. The S121 N20 model comes with a nitrous system that comes on at 3000 RPM and shuts off 200 before the redline. That one puts out 225...but in short bursts and it's another tank of gas to fill.

So really, the SVT is a better car performance wise...it has more potential.

I've never been a fan of that Duratec engine. My old Focus had the Split Port Injection engine which has a bad rep among the Focus enthusiasts. I knew I wasn't going to smoke any Hondas in that old Focus...I never ran it too hard.

So far, I like the way the Zetec runs though. The SVT/Cosworth Zetec is great, IMHO.

I've beat a Honda or two. :03:

Now, if you want to talk AWD....the next Focus RS is heavily rumored to be AWD with a turbo Ecoboost putting out ~350 HP. It's supposed to be revealed very soon. I can't wait. :arrgh!: They're actually selling them in the US this time. The Mk1 and Mk2 RS were Euro only. :wah:

Now a German car not likely to be found on anyones dream car list would be the early 80's VW Scirrico. What a crap car horrible electrical system. A buddy had one it seemed to always fail at the worst times.

Sounds like my Dad's old '93 GMC Sierra he used to have. :timeout: He sold it for like 600$ a couple years ago. Every moving part was replaced at least twice. There was a full engine/transmission swap at one point. He only got rid of the thing when he finally cracked a piston on the second engine.

He got a 2006 Sierra after that and it runs pretty solid with the exception of the gas gauge being stuck on half a tank. I personally hate driving it because I'm used to driving a small car that can zip in and out of parking spots. When I drive a truck, I have all this unnecessary size and weight...they're just not my thing.

This makes me stick out a bit in a place run by hillbillies that put half a million miles on their 7.3 turbodiesel Fords...

Now a fairly good but often overlooked German car is the Porsche 924\944 series (I'll personally fire bomb anyone who calls it "porsh" its not a part of your house).

I'll give it to Porsche. They make very good track cars. I've just never been a huge fan. Same with Ferrari. They make these great amazing cars...but I've just never been a huge fan. I do really like the Enzo...but the 458 is the one you hear about nowadays.

Back when I had my old Escort wagon (it died to an accident in July 2005) I used to boast that it would go from 0 to 60 in less than a week. The actual number was about 12 seconds. It topped out at 105, downhill, but given the standard speedometer discrepancy that was probably closer to 95. It had a whopping 88 horsepower. On the other hand I got a consistent 32 miles to the gallon in town and 44 on the road. I miss that car. :sunny:

But: Despite its size and 1100 ccm engine it had a top speed of 190 km/h at 8500 revs, in fourth gear (modified Abarth engine with compressor), no overdrive or 5th gear then. And you were not allowed to think of theoretical piston speeds, while pressing those 8500 revs per minute..
This was a terrific street machine, and especially on narrow roads no BMW or Porsche came close. I finally gave it away to a museum in Bavaria.

If it's modified I would hope you would slay it. My car is bone stock. No mods except window tint possibly. A modified Civic can put out some decent power...but if you're talking stock, the SVT Focus was built to compete with the Civic Hatchback...and the SVT won. However, the SVT was only produced for 3 years so there's not many.

If I had money, I'd add some power...there's a guy who runs a tuning shop near a drag strip about an hour away who does great work. Someday...

Audi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_RS_2_Avant) made an awesome sport wagon.

It's not exactly beautiful (i'll admit it was pretty darn ugly until recently)....but the Focus has sold very very very well...and it's hard to argue with the sales numbers vs the Escort.

OK, now I'll write the thing again that I had deleted.
You should not have 170 HP to begin with. You are still an inexperienced driver, sorry but that's what it is. You have already totaled a car which could have been fatal and you ran over a dog all in less than 2 years apart. The fact that you try to race your new car already just adds to my opinion that you should NOT HAVE a high powered car. You live in a country with a speed limit of 85 MPH which each and every 4 banger with less than a 100 HP can reach (usually with ease). So what do you need that power for? Just "mine's bigger than your's"? That's like gorillas banging their chests. Are you really on that level? It doesn't make you a better person to have a faster car than someone else. It doesn't meant that you have "defeated" him in any way.
You know when you have managed to drive for 5 years without incident then you are perhaps ready for a car with more than 150HP but right now I see trouble ahead. It's not only your own life you are playing with but you are also disrespecting the lives of everyone else on the road if you race other cars.
Sorry for these harsh words but we are loosing so many young people to accidents with high powered cars and I lost people I know to those accidents too.

Just "mine's bigger than your's"?

Are you really on that level?

It's more talk than anything else. I give my Honda-driving friends crap but at the end of the day wheels are wheels. It's just friendly jabs more than it's apes beating on their chest.

I understand completely where you're coming from. I have a close friend who has lost 4 family members to terrible car accidents. Every summer, I work at a Youth Traffic Safety Conference organized by a local police department and sponsored by the state. I've talked to enough victims and families....i've seen pictures of what happens. I've even covered myself in fake blood/gore and climbed into a wrecked car to act out what happens at the conference.

I hear you and I want to say that I would never do anything unnecessary to endanger anybody's life. Practicing my powershift on a completely empty flat road at 10PM is one thing, but true street racing is really dangerous and the roads are too curvy in my area to do that.

My two accidents have more to the story than what was on Subsim. Yes, the first one I attempted to move into the left lane...No, it did not work. It's something I'd done fifty times but the landscape didn't allow it at that point in time. It happened too fast. What happened happened and I'm moving on. I think that the experiences have made me a better driver.

When I hit the dog, I had 3 choices. My little brother was in the car with me and we were going to school. There were 2 large dogs and a small dog in the road. I wasn't going to run off into the steep treelined ditch, so I tried to split the gap but the small dog matched my movements. I had no choice but to hit it. Once again, the landscape didn't allow much of a choice. If I slammed on the brakes and skidded, I would've wrapped the car around one of many trees lining the road. If it hit one of the bigger dogs, I would've totaled the car easily.

As a fan of cars, I like to throw a jab at rivals...jabs I will probably never back up with a race unless it is on a proper track and I'm not unnecessarily endangering anybody else. When I talk about adding power to my car, I'm talking way down the road. That gets expensive and dangerous and I can't do that working part time at a grocery store and going to school.

I respect your post and what you have to say. I completely agree. Too many people are dying in car accidents. I've met people who have had traumatic brain injuries who have major disabilities. I've nearly had one myself and now I tell my story to a new group of young high schoolers I work with every summer. :know:

First of kudos for that calm response. I must admit that took me by surprise as I usually get different results when trying to talk to local people about that topic (even worse with bikers...).
The way you write it now sounds much more mature than what the previous post made me expect. :salute:
I know I'm a preacher when it comes to safety in traffic topics but I see too many crosses at the streets marking fatal accident sites. It's especially bad when you learn that some people died because one had to act like an idiot. It's all fun and games and then someone dies.
So many of these accidents would have been avoidable.:nope:

OK, you seem to have understood that and I hope you'll heed it during your driving career and stay accident free from now on.:salute:

BTW doesn't the Focus have ABS and ESP? If so skidding is almost impossible from what I hear.

I'd say the same about this. It's been a pretty calm discussion. :har: *knocks on wood*

I know I come across as an immature kid sometimes...to most, that's what I am...but I'd say I'm at least one step ahead of most in my age group on this subject.

I know I'm a preacher when it comes to safety in traffic topics but I see too many crosses at the streets marking fatal accident sites. It's especially bad when you learn that some people died because one had to act like an idiot. It's all fun and games and then someone dies.

There's nothing wrong with being a preacher. There was a girl who died on a bad curve two years ago this April. She died the night before prom. My best friend was really close to her. I can't drive by that cross without getting goosebumps bad. A truck driver who was screwed up on drugs had crossed the center line and the trailer had turned on its side. It was across the road and two vehicles hit it...one of which had this girl and her friends.

It makes my blood boil every time because some idiot had decided to get high and drive. Mistakes pile up... I never knew her personally...but many people I knew were close to her.

It's because not enough people are aware of (or not enough care about) the dangers

And of course, this is just one of many many stories. Too many people are stupid/ignorant/careless.

OK, you seem to have understood that and I hope you'll heed it during your driving career and stay accident free from now on.:salute:

I'll certainly do my best to stay accident free. I can't control everything that goes on in other vehicles...so the best thing I can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

The Missouri Highway Patrol estimates that it's a 100% chance that you will be involved in at least one traffic crash in your lifetime. I've had 1 major and 1 minor. It's out of the way and done with now.

BTW doesn't the Focus have ABS and ESP? If so skidding is almost impossible from what I hear.

They all have ABS as far as I know. I know for a fact that my car doesn't have traction control. Not sure if it's got anything else like that. Ford Foci with manual gearboxes usually don't have traction control (AFAIK). Electronic systems might be used on the later models...but like I said...I'm fairly certain mine doesn't have any of that. The fact that it's a sport model might affect that. In 2004, I think the SVT had a traction control option but I have a 2003...so yeah.

I believe that ABS became a requirement of FDOT for all cars some time in the late 90's or early 2000s. If not its one of thoses features that simply became an industry standard before becoming a regulated safety feature.

Your second from last paragraph sounds dangerously complaisant. I have been involved in four accidents only one while I was the driver. You should never assume that something will not happen or will not happen again you can drive perfectly and encounter a bad driver or have a tire blowout and enter a bad situation at any moment. While driving ALWAYS expect the worst I don't if you had an accident the previous day or ten years ago. I realize that you mentioned alertness in the
paragraph prior but then to have an its over and done now statement implies that you feel that way more than the other.

Had to necro an old thread of mine for one reason.

I was given an opportunity to test drive a 2013 Ford Focus ST3 today!

I could barely contain my excitement. I had just simply stopped to quickly look at it on my way home from work. But the salesman, seeing my Focus SVT had walked out and asked me if i needed any help. I just explained that I was looking to upgrade cars in the next year or so and I was stopping to look at this new locally traded ST. He then quickly offered me a test drive, to which I promptly said yes. He walked back into the dealership and came out with with the key (just a fob, push to start button in the car), dealer plate, and told me to give it a run around town.

I drove it in a large circle leading from town, out onto a state highway and back. I really do think i'm in love.

Pros:

TUUURRRRBBBBOOOOOOOBOOOOSSSTEEERRR! :yeah:
(Never having driven a turbocharged car before, this was an absolutely amazing experience)

Stiff, but smooth suspension- I'm used to a stiff all-around racing suspension in my daily driver. This felt stiff, but at the same time absorbed bumps very well. I approve

Very smooth shifter and very satisfying power band

Recaro seats!

Cons:

Torque steer- With 252 hp to the front wheels, it's quite different than my 170 hp. I have a torque steer issue sometimes, but this was different when the turbo kicked in at a low gear, i could feel it. Although, Ford does have a great electronic assist for this

Turning radius- 1.8 turns of the wheel to lock. Something like a 39ft turning radius....just awful.

Price: They want $20K for it....keeping in mind this is an ST3, that's not a terrible price for a two year old car with 36000 miles on it and still under warranty. It's got heated seats, navigation, etc.

Overall, I love it. I got to drive a dream car and I'm very satisfied. I'm currently playing with numbers trying to figure out how I can afford one. It would most certainly be a good investment for going off to college. The SVT I have now is getting old and worn out despite having pretty low mileage. It'd be better to have something more fuel efficient and reliable.

Made the decision this week to go big or go home.

Bought a used 2005 BMW E46 330i.

Bought it for a couple reasons:

1) I needed to buy a car
2) I love BMW's
3) I love DIY work and learning how cars/engines are put together. (going into engineering school soon)
4) It's nicer than anything else I was finding for sale within my price range in this part of the country.
5) I have some car parts hookups

So yeah. I know there's a lot of hate toward me on the forum regarding things with wheels and motors but it's best for the discussion to leave that crap at the door.

I'm driving something safe that I enjoy fully in almost every aspect. I figured it would be worth re-necro-ing my old dream car thread just because over the past 5 years the engineering and automotive world has really opened up to me. That, and I'm sorta-nearly-almost the owner of one of my favorite land vehicles of all time. The BMW M3. (I'm at least as close as I can get) I'm excited to own something that I'm able to work on easily (easier than the last car) and drive around daily a little more reliably and comfortably than a factory-tuned low-production discontinued "hot hatch."

Opel is still manufacturing but they are part of GM and are not allowed to sell their cars on the American continents to prevent further competition for GM's home brands.:shifty:
That removes Opel from one of the biggest car markets which prevent them from building the numbers needed to really compete with the likes of VW. Actually GM almost deep sixed Opel in the 1980iers when they were ordered to become cheaper....and they became cheap...and a synonym for extreme fast corrosion. They have just now recovered from the bad image and are building good cars again but the brand is still in financial trouble.:-?

I did not know that! I recall later in the 70's Buick brought in what would become Izuzu. The cars were called Opel and made in Japan. My family had 3 of them. Rust buckets but overall got the job done. The Opel faded in to obscurity. But lived on for some time in Australia

Oh but I was paying more and more for parts that didn't exist anymore for the Ford. SVT quit making Focus parts several years ago so every time something broke I either had to downgrade parts or scour the earth looking for a replacement.

One thing I quickly discovered while researching BMW's is that the aftermarket is huge for these and for the most part you get what you pay for within reason.

You are right about the reduced fuel efficiency of the " Hot Rods". You might be amazed however at the fuel mileage some of these cars can get with the addition of Overdrive transmissions and add on throttle body fuel injection systems or a multi port fuel injection system. If you know what you are doing, you can build your own multi port fuel injection systems from a standard " wet " intake manifold made for carburetors . There are a number of manufacturers who specialize in making stand alone electronic and computer systems to tie everything together and make it all work. This is a popular swap and add on for older cars that have been restored.

A manufacturing firm in Germany makes what is called the ZF 5 and 6 speed manual overdrive transmissions. They have been used in the Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvettes and enjoy an excellent reputation. If the rear end ratio is matched well with the transmission, The RPM's can be held below 2000 at a cruising speed of 65 MPH. This translates into surprisingly good fuel mileage.

On the other hand, if you live in Germany and have and drive on the AutoBahn and your cars like the Porsche , Mercedes and BMW's travel at the speed of light, then there isn't much that's going to help fuel efficiency although they also do pretty well. :D

Red, it's a 1968 low compression 400 with a 4bbl Carter AFB "Competition Series" carb built by Weber. Runs on 97 oct and just as well on Regular 'ol 87 . Runs best on gas with no ethanol. If I can get it, I like to run 100LL thru it and clean it out. Lately I'm adding a few gallons of VP C9/96oct racing fuel to whatever is in the tank. Runs even better with it. The engine is pushing 400 hp.

Schroeder, mileage depends on your foot and the gearing in the rear. I'm running a 3:55 gear set and at 70 mph it's pushing 3300 rpm. Not very good for mileage. I'm planning on going to a 3:36 grear set that will lower the rpms. 255/60 15s re on the back end that helped lower the engin3 rpms by 300 too. And back in 1970 with my first 66 GTO gas was only 32 cents a gallon. So yeah, we didn't car about gas mileage. LOL

Sounds pretty great! That's good that it isn't too fuel sensitive. Nothing like going for a drive and not being able to find 93 Octane. That octane booster stuff they sell at gas stations isn't the same.

You never mentioned if your car has an automatic or manual transmission. If it's a " stick " you can find manual transmissions with overdrive that will enable you to keep your current rear end drive set. That might be cheaper and easier than finding a 12 bolt unit for your " goat. "

If you have an automatic, you can get an early 200/4R that also has an overdrive unit of .67 to 1. The 200/4r can be built without needing a computer to control the lockup feature for the torque converter. The valve body can be built to do it or a simple switch can be used at cruising speed to engage the lockup.

* Caution * You also would need to put in a new brake switch at the pedal that would have provisions that when the brake pedal was pushed, an electrical impulse would disengage the lock up feature. Otherwise, it would be like trying to stop with a manual transmission and not using the clutch.

Mine is any suv with air conditioning that I can buy off craigslist for $2300, and then put two years or 80,000 miles on. Then either sell or scrap, and get another one. The Durango seems to fit the bill. :woot:

Update: I'm finding that 4runners with the good old 3.4L V6 fill the bill too

Any BMW E21 (any), E30 (any) or E36 (M3) owners here? I'm thinking about a project and would like some real world input.

Seems a lot of info I'm seeing online is several years old at this point.

Over the next year or so, I want to piece together an S50B30US swap into an E30 chassis. If on the off chance any of you know anything about the swap, I'd appreciate it.

Thinking about a Xantia station, ever since the CX times i have come to despise steel sprung automobiles. Despite this italian Bertone design it does not look like much, but it is practical, has a perfect suspension system with indirect rear steering, and is a real underrated 'sleeper' with its 3l engine, 190 hp and 140 mph.
Fuel 'efficiency', well .. :hmmm:

It's getting difficult to find some of these old cars without rust. It's a pain to fix it, but people selling them without rust want a lot of cash.

I've never seen abandoned vehicles in Europe.

You mean to say there are people in Europe who would admit owning something like that?

The road next to mind has abandoned van now 10 years strong and I see a car has now been abandoned next to it. Residents in that road clearly don't give a toss or they would have reported them.

I've got one of these. 2004 Ford Falcon BA XR6 Mk1. Mightn't be a dream car to some, but for me it's the best thing I've ever owned or driven.

I've been driving for over 45 years and owned many cars including an E Type Jag. But the old "Henry" still turns heads after 14 years. It's a dream to drive, especially on a highway where you can really appreciate it's power.

They don't make 'em any more here in Australia:wah: . Our Motor industry shut recently ( my take ) - "cause the current population mix in Australia would rather buy imported 4WDs than the locally manufactured sedans." Tragedy.

Tragedy indeed. One thing I love about Australians is they really do understand road racing. I'd rather watch super car events over any crappy NASCAR oval track garbage any day. I've been driving on the old Tasmanian '67 Longbridge course in Asetto Corsa lately with the Ferrari 250 GTO. Brilliant! It looks like California where I live to a very high degree and I feel like I'm driving local back roads.

Thanks for the "Love". Our women are beautiful too:). I go into my local Maccas lately and it's as if I'm at a Miss Universe pageant. Former Miss Universe Jen Hawkins grew up in the area. Good genes.

But of course the parking lot is full of 4WDs, ugh.

^ lol though you could argue this is no "car" :haha:

I just bought some kind of dream car; it is not the design though it has been done by Bertone. But it has hidden qualities, the car is a real 'sleeper'. Galvanized zinc coated body, Hydractive II suspension and breaking, and a 190 hp V6 engine. Very good condition sans driver's seat (but already have spare part), and the Price was ridiculous :)

Just going to the store, plus more downtown businesses are offering free battery charging now for EV cars. :yep:

https://newatlas.com/solo-ev-first-us-customer/54570/

Made by Vancouver-based company Electra Meccanica and legally considered a motorcycle, the single-passenger Solo has an 82-hp (61-kW) electric motor driving its rear wheel, taking it to a top speed of 82 mph (130 km/h) – it goes from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than eight seconds. Its 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery charges in three hours at a 220 V charging station or about six with 110 V, giving the car a range of up to 100 miles (161 km).

It's priced at CAD$19,888, or about US$15,500.
