Hiked to Titova vas today (Titos village).
A partizan WW2 camp found in my vicinity.
The camp was well hidden but kept in constant contact with the villages on the other side of the hill. It was mad of 11 barracks, had a telefone line, a dentist, tavern and a choir.
It was founded 21st of November 1944 and was used as a winter camp and a staging area for guerrilla actions against the Germans. Because of the constant raids the Germans decided to put an end to it. A 800 men worth an operation was underway and they found the camp and burned it down on January 31st 1945. The partisans were well informed of the attack and they pulled out with weapons and supplies a day earlier.
The site was renovated a month ago and I went to see it.

Cool stuff!
Did a little hiking myself today....barefoot... I went back to the old silver mine and the campground there. There's an old 1940's dam on the river (with a small section missing on one side). The mine was shut down years ago but it's still there. They've since barred off the entrance but there's trails to hike around up there. I've explored a lot of it and made some of my own trails. It's pretty fun to jump off the dam too.
Course, your hiking story is cooler. My hiking today consisted of walking to the dam, sneaking up on the group of parents and walking back.
But c'mon. I jumped off a dam. :O:

History is always cool; even more so when it's history in your own area. :sunny:

Thanks for sharing this (hi)story. But - There is no 31st of November in any year.
From the pictures, it should read 21st of November 1944.Hard to understand the rest of the signs, but has the name anything to do with Josip Broz Tito?

I can't believe it. I wrote 31st November to 21st January :o
Managed to edit the January, but November escaped me.
Thanks
Josip Broz Tito himself. Yes.
He never visited though, the camp was just named after him
