hey guys I have sh3 and I'm playing on a widescreen monitor but the game doesn't support that I've also heard there's a mod for sh3 that makes it support widescreen. is that true?

Yes it is true. The links are found on the silent hunter III downloads/graphics mods/page 4 on this forum. Results are a mixed bag though with some people reporting crashes etc. Follow the advice and instructions in the readme to the letter. Goodluck.

Try MaGUI 3.4 WS. You can use it with 1360x768 res. For more res. there is a new mod but it is not compatible totally with GWX or LSH. Only for NYGM.
