You can mod it. I play this game through Steam as well, all you need to do is download JSGME Mod Enabler, extract the contents, place them in the game directory e.g. Steam/steamapps/common/silent hunter 4. One of those files that you need to put in your game directory is a folder called 'MODS'.

Download your mods and place them inside that folder, start JSGME and activate them. Simple :).

As for mods, I think it's pretty standard among everyone to start with Trigger Maru Overhauled 2.5 or Real Fleet Boat, depends on your taste.

These are the mods I currently have installed in order.
Trigger Maru Overhauled
Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign
Optical Targeting Correction
Traveller's Mod.

Graphics and gameplay wise, you're good with TMO.

Welcome Aboard :sunny:

You are certainly able to add mods but I would suggest you look through the relevant forum to get an idea what is available out there.

If you browse through the threads on SH345 forums, you will notice that at least 4 out of 5 OPs asking for help with modding problems are using the Steam version. There are also workarounds for almost all of these problems, but the Steam version of SH345 requires special handling. Desertstriker has even made a set of tutorials for setting up mods for SH3. Since the publisher's version of SH345 has none of these problems and can be purchased by download or on DVD for under $10 ($5 if you catch a special sale), you might want to spend a few extra bucks and simplify your life.

Thank you for the Nice Welcome everyone...and even Thank you for the nice suggestions ..already tried Trigger Maru and Travellers Mod :D

But i have a little Question with them.

I am still a noob with submarine games and i realised when i start a campaign from pearl harbour to the japanese coast my fuel runs down real quick. When i arrive there i almost have an empty tank...is it possible and yes i tried it in gameplay settings to turn it of the decrease the realism a little like unlimited fuel and stuff? like i said i tried to deactivate it but somehow it wont work ingame ..i still lose fuel when i drive with my Sub.

Thanks

Several on-line sources (http://pwencycl.kgbudge.com/G/a/Gato_class.htm, http://www.valoratsea.com/gato.htm, http://warships1discussionboards.yuku.com/topic/19783/US-WW2-Fleet-Boats-vs-German-Type-IX-Range#.U67Vq2c6yHs) give the range of a Gato as 11,000 nm at 10 knots. As with any vessel, cruising speed is not top speed, and most efficient cruising speed is not necessarily the optimum speed for transiting the patrol area. You have to watch your fuel consumption (as RL skippers did) and make your own trade-offs between range and time off station (as RL skippers did). The function "Report range at current speed" (SHIFT-G) will get that information from your navigator, and is useful in avoiding those embarrassing "Out of gas" situations.

Pearl to the Home Islands was a long sail. If you are based out of Pearl, it's a good idea to make a gas stop at Midway and top up the tanks, both outbound and returning. This will buy you another 2500 nm of operating range, an additional 10%.
