Another WWI. This time a FPS. might have a look as its on early released. Vids and screens are interesting looking. Does look at a little different with cooperation within the squad of 4. Would be interesting if it has SP capability. Looks like its only online MP ATM.

Well if we're talking Aussie dollars, that might fetch a half pint :)

During the last decade and more, when the WW2 FPS "rule" I always wanted a fps of WW1. Pity that there is not a trial or a :arrgh!::arrgh!::arrgh!: copy!

This looks cool...for an FPS.

I'm kind of sad there's not going to be a singleplayer game mode...However, this looks actually really really good. Not many FPS games appeal to me.

Battlefield, STALKER...and I guess ArmA would be an FPS in a way...those are really the only good memorable ones I can think of. Of course there's the early CoD games and the Original Halo trilogy....and the first two AvP games....but they don't really stick out for me.

Verdun is new. It's WW1. WW1 hasn't been done to death in gaming like WW2 has. It's fresh...and it looks like it'll be a hell of a lot of fun like a Battlefield title would be.

Just wish I had a fast, reliable, and consistent internet connection.

Bought it and gave it a spin last night. It's a bit hectic on the server, but has some good features and some not so good. The graphics are OK, the animations still look a bit wonky at times, but the one thing that is a tad strange is how much you have to lead your targets when they are going across your FOV. Even when they are only a few tens of metres away.

Twas fun but I'm not sure how much longevity there is in the gameplay I saw. It didn't feel very trench warfare, even though that was the setting. More like Halo online on Mogadon.

Doing a FPS in WWI would not be an easy affair, I am interested to see how Verdun plans to work it.
Honestly, I think the best idea for a game based around WWI would be an RPG, since 8/10s of the time spent in the forward trenches was spent waiting, watching no mans land for any attacks and just surviving the best you could in the conditions that you were in before you were rotated back to the rest area.
Periodically the orders would come through to either go over the top in a massed attack, or to go across to cut wires, throw bombs in the enemy trench, or grab prisoners. There's also the possibility of scouting missions or acting as a runner, taking orders and reports under fire from HQ to the front and back.
Something like the Fallout series might work, a mixture of RPG with FPS, but a standard vanilla FPS. :hmmm:

This is not a stealth game. The lack of TrackIR or even a lean left/right control is a bit limiting IMO. ARMA3 WWI it definitely isn't. and of course being online only means there is plenty of asshattery going on with TK's and more than likely the odd haxor making hay whilst the development is still in progress.

That's exactly the problem with putting FPS into WWI, the two are very different. WWI in the Western front was a very static war with occasional pushes, FPS's are very mobile games, running and gunning by their nature.
If they're going to set a WWI FPS anywhere, it should really be in the east, but that's a war that is not as well known as the trenches.

If you could get a private server with two groups of like minded people you could have some hope of getting something a bit more realistic with tactics coming into the game in a much bigger way. As it is with no AI (therefore no coop v AI), and public servers only you end up with a shoot and scoot that is not very realistic at all.

Keep fighting with your squad against a limitless amount of enemies. Earn experience points, level up and gain new abilities. :shifty:

Limitless amount of enemies?
Leveling up?
Gain new abilities?

D&D with rifles? :shifty:

The main game mode allows players to experience true trench warfare. :shifty:

Too bad, the idea of a WWI based game is appealing to me. It is one area that has been sadly under represented. However, from the trailer/website, it looks like this would appeal more to the COD crowd.

The whole levelling up thing is not as RPGish as it sounds. The game itself is quite good, kinda reminds me of a WWI Red Orchestra.

The problem I have is that my connection, although hardwired, is not very consistent. Unless I move it won't get any better. I usually have no problems in online gaming but with Verdun I get "Disconnected due to timeout" alot and have noticed many other forum threads about it going back a year or so.

The game is still getting updates to completion. Thus far I could say I am realy enjoying the way its going.

I've heard that it's rather horrid at the moment, but it has potential.
I'd still like to try it myself before I can pass judgement.

I'm not convinced a game like this can work without becoming a sniping-fest between those in the trenches and the guys in no-mans' land.
