A few years ago I had looked up Herbert Werner of Iron Coffins fame and discovered he was living in Florida. I thought it would be cool to write him and tell him about Silent Hunter. I never did anything about it.

With the 70th anniversary of D-Day I thought of him again recently. I just looked him up and discovered he died a year ago on April 6th, 2013.

I find it quite surprising that so many survived so long. Many of the surviving British submariners that I knew with experience from from that era died relatively young often with Emphysema or similar lung diseases caused by the air pressure and poor quality of the atmosphere when cooped up underwater.

I bought his book "Iron Coffins" a week ago and finished it in like, 3 days.
Another great read and highly recommended!
