Steam x Uplay

Maybe.. just maybe a stupid question :D Is the Uplay version different from the Steam version of the game as to .exe file for issues related to mods?

The steam sh5.exe uses a form of self-modifying code copy protection that 'unpacks' the code when the executable is run

UPlay does not, get the Uplay version!

Nice... so I didn't trash $5 bucks just minutes ago... now.. when I press the "play" button on the steam version , it opens Uplay so when I purchased just now the Uplay version and installed the Uplay app, SH5 was already there... should I uninstall it and do a fresh install from Uplay? im confused now...

dont go thru steam, just uplay. I hope you bought it this way

The 'Steam' download will not allow you to use TDW's Generic File Patcher.

Other downloads like Uplay will.

Thank you all, I think the best thing I do is to delete the steam version, keeping the saved game files (praying it will work :oops:) and re-install the game trough Uplay.

Save your saved files from my documents to an external source.

Delete the documents folder.

Delete any game folders in the x86 program folder.

Delete the game folder on your drive.

Run a registry cleaner before reinstalling.

Did all but registry cleaning... I hope It works :yeah:

Ill update later, will run a clean (no mods) mission and then start to install mods... entering plug and " pray " mode.

On my third clean Uplay clean install now.. I understand I need a lot of reading before I jump, better saying.. dive in the game with mods.. well... my saved game progress is gone.. I did a backup on the MyDocs/SH5 files (of course creating another folder away from the original) and tried everything I found reasonable to restore my career, it brought back the crashes with them.. so .. Ill take the time to read carefully all the instructions. Meanwhile Ill play the stock version, and read trough all tutorials while sailing away, im sure ill find new updates before I return to port.

Ill get there.. gimme some time, this old captain will be back doing silly sneaks like the one shown in this picture :arrgh!:.. it took me hours of planning... all gone :nope:
