Don't mean to necro this post but I put NewUIs TDC 7_4_2 at the top of my order (1st mod). I have Stormy's DBSM mods toward the bottom. I have experienced no known problems except for U-Boat Historical Specificatios as I've loaded it after starting a patrol. Not familiar with OH II v2.5

This all very old now and making your own mods list I do not use anymore because of ctd's.
This is down to mods that are not compatible or the order they are in.
I would recommend using one of the mega mods like sobers or The Wolves Of Steel which are proven to be very stable.
Some mods need patching to make them work with each other.
Sub flags for instance is a well known mod for ctd's.

I have thought about using a mega mod (WoS, in particular) only the real navigation part is keeping me away. Is there any way to disable that particular feature but use the rest of the mods?

Real nav is an option in TWoS. You don't have to install it if you don't want to.
