Hi, I see the sticky on the step by step mods.....but geez you need a PHD to follow that sucker.
I have 1.2 of the game.
Being a noob, what mods are a must have? I am familiar with JSMGE (or whatever) program.
Also, the most important thing for me right now > I have played SH5 before and I *HATE* navigating that long passageway back to port. It's fun the first 3,000 times :/\\!! but after that, it gets old. Is there a mod to teleport (so to speak) from the port to the patrol area without having to navigate that channel?
Thanks.
i was out of the loop until last week so i was in the same spot. soooo many mods to look at.
i would say the essential ones are:
TDW UIC whatever the newest version is ( download it then open it and you will a bunch of diff ones to choose from ) this should give you the officer icons and the full torpedo control system.
TDW IAI whatvever the lastest verison is ( this makes the AI smarter )
i forget the name of the file but its all the german radio broadcasts, 1 channel each for like 4 years. very nice to listen to over the radio.
find a dynamic environment mod...whatever the latest version is.

Thank you kindly for the welcome back. With all respect, because I know you put a hell of a lot of time into it, it is your post that I was referring to when I said I needed a phd to follow it.
I used to mod myself back in the day. But I helped mod "Falcon 4.0", not these sub sims. So believe me when I say I understand all the work you and others put into this.
However, if you (anyone) doesn't follow a sim like this from day one that it hits the shelf in the stores, you're pretty much screwed when it comes to patching with the latest mods because you literally don't know where to start. If you had the game from day one, it would be easy to follow along and try a mod or two and know exactly what they do and don't do, etc.
But when you start 5 yrs late and there are probably close to 500+ mods now..... it's almost impossible to play catch up. Now I respect and appreciate what you did tremendously because not only do you show it step by step, but you also provide the links to the posts in the forum so one can read about each patch. A LOT OF WORK!
The downside of that for a new player is if you follow those links and read the forum posts, there could be close to 60 pages of responses just on one mod. (for instance the Steel Vikings interior mod thread I believe has 58 pages of responses)
It's frustrating because as a new player, all you want to do is play, but if you want to play it 'right', where things work as they should (IE bug fixes), you are almost forced to read through every post of every mod to understand what is going on. Basically you have to do 5 yrs worth of back-research to catch up and learn what has changed from stock.
Having said all of that, if there is just *ONE* mod I would like to have right now, it would be the ability to go directly from port to the patrol area without having to navigate that damn channel. It is such a pain in the butt and IMHO, ridiculously time consuming.
Also, at the present time, I believe it would be beneficial for me to at least learn the basics of the stock game. IE moving around the ship. Getting from station to station. Learning how to manage the crew. Then once I get a few hours under my belt, maybe I'll understand better what certain mods do and how it effects the stock game play.
One other mod I really want right off the bat is the ability to teleport from station to station inside the sub. I understand some players like the realism of having to walk or run from station to station but for me, that gets real old, real fast. I want to be able to push F5 (or something) and go immediately to (xyz station)..... you get my drift.
So do those two mods exist?
1) The ability to go from port to patrol area immediately.
2) The ability to teleport from station to station without manually walking or running?
I'd be just happy to start there. Thank you.
i have not seen one to go from patrol to port.
u can teleport station to station in tdw's UI interface mods.
when it comes to mod they are always on the 1st page of the thread

Hi cmbconcretefire
Have you started your career and done the tutorial?
If no. Then do it without mods.
Do you have 8gb of Ram?
Are you a Steam user.
If you are not then you will need TDW’s Generic File Patcher.
See my Post #2 for instructions.
You will also need JSGME.
See my Post #4 for instructions.
The answer to your question.
Quote The ability to go from port to patrol area immediately.
When you are in the bunker you go to the Flotilla Leader and select your mission.
You still have to get from the bunker to your mission patrol area which you can do by plotting waypoints.
The answer to this question.
The ability to teleport from station to station without manually walking or running?
Yes, I recommend you use TDW NewUi 7-4-2
This is tried, tested and reliable.
If you are worrying about what to do next or any problems just send me a PM and between us we will get things sorted.

Thank you Saipan. To The Berbster..... thank you so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated. I will answer your questions quickly.
Not started Career. Didn't even know there was a tutorial there. So thank u.
I do not have 8gb ram. I have 4. I can get 8 though if needed. My MOBO is capable of 16, however, it was designed for the old quad core's and that's what I'm still running. My Trusty Q6600 and ATI Radeon 4800 video card. The game seems to play and run just fine but I do understand my system is 'dated' to say the least but I still believe it's plenty powerful enough to run sh5....provided I upgrade to 8gb ram if needed and perhaps forego a few 'eye candy' mods if needed. But when I built this system, I built it like a tank...not a gaming rig. But I still believe it's plenty strong. I do not have my q6600 overclocked either. Nor my video card. Although both are capable of being OC'd if needed and I have done it in the past just playing around. Stable at 3GHZ.
Not a steam user
So I will need > TDW’s Generic File Patcher. Got it. JSGME. Got it.
Your next part is disturbing: "Quote The ability to go from port to patrol area immediately. When you are in the bunker you go to the Flotilla Leader and select your mission. You still have to get from the bunker to your mission patrol area which you can do by plotting waypoints."
Ok, so if I understand this correctly, I still have navigate the channel *EVERY TIME* I go from port to patrol area and then again from patrol area back to port? ------ ( keep in mind I have played sh5 before and that's one thing I hated )
Even with waypoints and time compression turned way up..... it still takes a good while to have to navigate that channel everytime because even with time compression, it stops everytime there is a plane or something "happens".... time compression will automatically go from (example) 64x to 0.... and yes, I understand I can turn that setting "off" so it won't stop at all, but I believe I've been killed before doing that.
And even if there are no "events" and time compression runs full speed, I still have to manage the diesel, battery ratio... no? So the time compression thing seems silly when going to and from port. It's like I spend 15 minutes or so just managing the time compression. That seems ridiculous to me. I guess it's just me. ?????
Teleport station to station. > TDW NewUi 7-4-2.... understood. Thanks.
I will start vanilla tonight with the in game career and tutorials without any mods and learn a little bit. I should absorb it quickly as this will not be my first sub sim or my first experience with the SH series. I'll pm you any further questions.
Except this one: :D > How do I turn on FPS in game so I can see my frame rate while playing? I imagine this will come in handy based on my 'old' rig.
Thanks a TON!! I feel like you have guided me to where I am no longer lost in the wilderness and at least tonight, I can start to play. So that's awesome. :)
for fps try using fraps program. easy and free

not sure what you mean diesel battery ratio? north tip of england to bremen is only 1-2 min with time compression no big deal. channel will be longer due to traffic

Hi cmbconcretefire
Your rig will run ok at present because it is not loaded.
Once you start adding mods and you start to get close to ports resources start to mount.
You might get away with 4gb but 8gb is recommended.
Question

Important that you look at my Post #45 there is a link there that will help you with the ‘Tutorial.’
Answer
No. The ‘Tutorial’ starts you already at sea where you are given tasks to complete your training.
You will then be ordered to ‘Kiel’ through the short route.
When you have finished your compulsory tutorial what happens next will depend on your next action.
If you add the mod OH II v2.5 (See my Post #64 for Ports) you will start the 'Baltic Mission' before the war starts in the port of ‘Memel.’

When you complete the Patrol you will again be ordered to ‘Kiel’ through the short route.
Your next Patrol will take you to the East Coast of Britain.
This means the long trip through the ‘Kiel Canal.’
Using this mod

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3096 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3096)
The pilot will take you out of Memel and also through the ‘Kiel Canal.’
To use the pilot to work it needs this mod.
NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith
The Folder called Mods contains 13 mods. Base Folder is number 3
Any additional mods go behind the Base Folder.

Don’t add any mods while in the bunker at ‘Memel’.
Add your mods after finishing the compulsory ‘Tutorial.’
Make any further mod changes that you wish to make when you finish the ‘Baltic Campaign and you are in the bunker in ‘Kiel.’
