I have been gone awhile - usually bounce between playing SH111 and Pacific but bought SH5 a year back never got to play it but have put in a new 2TB hard drive and loaded SH5 up. I bought the game from Gamersgate so I dont have a hard copy. Unfortunately the hard copies are still pretty expensive here in South Africa - running around $35-50 - so whereas I see in the threads the answer to one of my questions is buy a hard copy given that they can be picked up in the States for around $10 I am hoping I can find a solution to my problem through your help or advice.

I want to put in mods most importantly new UI's. If I am correct in my search on these forums a Steam copy cannot be modded. Would this apply to any downloaded copy as I cannot for the life of me get either U1-Boat5.02 or Darths to appear once I start up a campaign.

Please just double check me on my installation of JSGME. I have installed it into my root SH5 folder (in program files). I see there is also another SH5 folder in "My Documents".

So when I click open the root SH5 there is a folder in there (JSGME) and when I open this folder there is a "Mod" folder withing where the mods mentioned reside. But when I activate them and begin a new campaign I still sit with stock UI'S. I cannot see myself ever enjoying running around the boat to activate stations. In the beginning it would probably be a novelty but for me would soon wear off.

Any help or advice or must I just wait for the hard copy price to come down. At the rate our currency is going against the mighty dollar that could take for ever - price might even go up!!!!!! :)

Hi Aktungbby yes, its been awhile. And I'm rusty. Just worked out that the problem is how I installed JSGME. Now I must just work out how to install the U1's of Darkwraith.
Its good to be back though!!!

Hiya,

Welcome back

For a guess, inside the newui's folder you haven't gone in and extracted the ones wanted into the mods folder

The initial newui folder holds many things inside you choose from

eg : go into newui folder into mods, take what you want n place in jsgme mods folder then enable

As long as the dl game aint steam you should be fine n dandy

edit : dang i paid around 40 sterling on launch day lmao, two copies for my bro n me

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back. The subsim community on this site is awesome - seriously. I still cannot get my head around how those of you spend so much of your time building mods to a commercial game. Firstly, to make it playable if it has short-comings and then secondly, to enhance game play for all. And also to those who build sticky threads making it easier to find stuff and of course to all who try and help when someone runs into problems.

A big thank you - without your dedication I know I for one, would not have stayed with playing the Silent Hunter series.:subsim:
