Life is good because...

I just snagged a weekend off to fly back to Texas to visit my girl and watch the step son graduate high school. Now I'm flying back to work first class with a rum and coke in hand and plenty of work ahead :)

Ahhhh nooks and crannies! Well, I arrived home from a 3 hour field callout only to find my spouse had cut her finger badly preparing the Sunday feast, After applying a bandage of 'considerable dimension' to the afflicted digit, I then drew upon my ancient bachelor skills gone long by (33 years). I prepared 2 Cornish game hen as follows: Fill each with a quarter lemon(cut lengthwise) and whole sprig of Rosemary; salt and pepper the interior; hand rub each bird with olive oil. Roast 25 min. at 450F; after- reduce heat to 350F and baste both fowl with a sauce: 1/3 cup white wine, 1/3 cup water, two tablespoons olive oil and cook another 25 minutes. Done to a turn; served with convenient stove-top stuffing and mixed carrots and cauliflower with a good slosh of the white wine to compliment. My compliments to the chef:oops:... er chief cook and bottle washer. Nookie rule one...feed 'em first!:yeah::O:

Depends on your nationality. The company I worked for had a team of two East Indian drivers who thought it would be a great idea to cut a hole in the floor of the sleeper as a portal for their bodily waste. When they turned their tractor in, it was found to have every storage bin stuffed with plastic shopping bags full of crap. I guess they only used the hole for urination across the nation.:stare: I feel sorry for the mechanics and anyone who drove behind them. I don't see how they could stand the smell in their rolling outhouse.

The tractor couldn't be cleaned and sanitized and was a total write off.
A jug is great for emergency relief and some drivers think it's ok to toss those things out on the side of the road. We always carried them into a truck stop restroom or shower to be emptied into a toilet and thrown away. Just don't mix one up with a jug of apple juice when you're thirsty.:haha:

Rgr that...whilst at sea I was doing an unscheduled inspection of the ships engine room when I came across the Bangladeshi Greaser (the guy who regularly oils and greases the smaller bearings, valves etc.) squatting on the lower floor plates taking a dump.

I had him cleaning the bilges for a week and after that event I never again asked the crews Bandari (Cook) for any more curries.

I made the windmill blade hub hole for the shaft and bearing half a milimeter smaller than the diameter of the bearing. Freezing the bearing means it will shrink and I'll be able to get it in to the hole and when it will warm up it will expand and lodge itself in.

Computer came back from repair today. All diagnostic checks were fine and the eventual fault was traced to one of the four sticks of 2GB memory being faulty.

I've got a fairly decent supply of number 4 and 5 lead shot its perfect for rodents. Should you need to partake in any squirrel sanatizing. Might have to get a little closer to a zombie squirrel though much smaller head shot:D

I rinsed off the excess salt (important), patted the meat dry (important) and slipped the meat into the following marinade: 1 Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup White Wine (two-buck Chuck Chardonnay BBY!)
4 Garlic Cloves, Crushed
2 Tbsp Vinegar
3 Tbsp Honey
2 Tbsp Sugar
1/4 th Cup Olive Oil
1/2 Cup water (to fully cover the meat)
I marinaded the squirrels for almost 24 hours, allowed them to come to room temperature, placed them on a hot grill and brushed them with a mixture of butter and pork lard (melted butter by itself will be fine) until brown on each side. I then placed them in foil and finished them for about 20 minutes with the lid on the grill. They were a big hit and quite a number of people had their first taste of tree rät. Actually served in Georgia BIGTIME! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/aa/Hamms_Logo.jpg/220px-Hamms_Logo.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hamms_Logo.jpg)

I hear that beaver is good eating.Precisely! You've probably already partaken of it w/o knowing as the Castorium from beaver glands is actually used in countless flavorings. "It's used as an additive that is often labeled as "natural flavoring" in the foods we eat - vanilla, strawberry and raspberry probably being the most common.

"Why is castoreum used? The most notable characteristic (after being processed) has to be the smell of castoreum. Instead of smelling horrible, like most people would expect from an anally produced secretion, it has a pleasant scent, which supposedly makes it a perfect candidate for food flavoring and other products.

The question that many people put forth would have to be "who in their right mind actually made this odd discovery?"

Another industry that utilizes castoreum is the fragrance world. For decades, perfume manufactures have been using it to make various types of fragrances. These anal secretions are said to contain around 24 different molecules, many of which act as natural pheromones. From perfumes to air fresheners, castor sacs are quite versatile within the fragrance industry."

Ex was a vegetarian. Still is I guess. It was a lot simpler to switch to a mostly vegetarian household. I'll say this for it - it makes you a better cook and actually enhances the taste of everything that isn't meat.

That was an interesting couple of years. Working shifts meant I was getting a few main meals in the cafeteria and we did eat out a lot. I wouldn't go back but it's not a massive lifestyle change.

Wouldn't go back but I don't eat as much meat as before. Odd.
