Alright, since I have no modding capability at all, I was wondering if someone would like to build the ultimate overkill platform? :D I found this the other day and thought that it would be a beautiful ship to build! I already know that you cannot use planes on carriers but i was still curious if someone would like to build it!
http://www.military-quotes.com/forum/500-000ton-battleship-t16667.html
that is the link for it.
This ship is something that you would see out of Naval Ops Warship Gunner, one of my other favorite games. SO if you would like to volunteer and unleash this beast upon Japan or America, since it does look more Japanese than anything, let me know :)

Thanks,

Before you start building that... PLEASE notify the Dutch government.

Taking into acount the melting of polar ice and a couple glaciers and on top of that having that on the ocean, they're gonna need to raise the dijks by 10m to be safe.

:har:

I'm thinking that any power that actually built such a thing, wouldn't have any funds left over for escorts, aircraft, shells, fuel,..... bread....

ESSEX class carriers had 5 inch 38s fore and aft of the island, and the first thing they discovered was you couldn't fire one of them things if any airplane was anywhere on the flight deck since the concussion would damage them. Subsequent designs moved the main batteries down to sponsons alongside the hull at hangar deck level and size was restricted to 5 inch 54s (later replaced with CWIS and Sea Sparrow missiles). Even if it were practical to build something like that it wouldn't be practical to operate, 18 inch batteries firing over the flight decks would damage any aircraft down below on the hangar deck, no matter how many tiedowns you used on each airplane the shock alone would damage airframes. Fly off all the aircraft before firing the big guns and the concussion would still wreck the landing surface, arresting gear, and elevators making it impossible to operate as an aircraft carrier afterwards. Better design would be a flight deck in the middle with battleship hulls and guns outboard, preferably at a lower level.

Lol So? Somebody get ahold of bismarck or silverwolf! They know how to build it. If I knew how I would!:arrgh!:

Yamato's Worst Nightmare! I think it's a bit much. Kind of like the 'King Tiger' tank in the Battle of the Bulge...we captured a few and wondered "What were they thinking!!?" bigger in WWII was seldom better! Numbers of cheap weapons "had a cachet of their own" like the Sherman or Russian T-38 for example.:Kaleun_Salute:http://www.cwo.zaq.ne.jp/bface700/bb-tosa.JPG

My current Iowa class: 9 x 16" Main guns, 30 x 8" Secondary guns, 160 x 40mm Bofors AA, 4 x 20mm Oerlikon AA, 30 Mk 14 torpedoes.

I'm going to triple stack the main batteries giving me 27 16" guns, then I will trade out the aircraft launchers for 2 14" triple mounts, and another 14" triple mount in front.

I will gladly put it head to head with that monstrosity and see what comes out on top:03:

That ship 1 on 1 vs a Gato... I think you're right merc, one fleet boat could take that thing down, plus it presents such a huge target you CAN'T miss

Let me help! I saw this in person from atop Ft. Point under the Golden Gate Bridge! USS Iowa: "The Big Stick" Probably the last time a 'battleship' will pass under the bridge!http://histbase.com/USS_Iowa/Images/USS_Iowa_Golden_Gate.jpg

That probably also explains why Lexington and Saratoga had their eight inch guns removed to doing shore battery duty once the war started.

I used to be part of a website that had a ship designers forum. Someone had written a program that would let you design ships to fit any era. The on caveat was that the program followed real-world rules: Everything you added had to be paid for. More guns meant more strain on the hull, and/or less armor. You could design what you could dream up, but it had to actually work.

I was never any good at it.

Well SH4 doesn't have that limitation, and my Iowa will be completely ridiculous:doh:

How do you guys make the mods anyways? I have always wanted to learn.

well the main tools are Silent 3ditor (for editing .sim .dat .zon .cam), Notepad (for editing .upc .cfg .eqp), Gimp 2 (for editing .dds), JSGME (for enabling/testing mods) and wings 3d, blender, or any other 3d modeling software for 3d models (exported and imported with silent 3ditor as .obj files)

There are some good tutorials for how to use each on the Subsim master thread in the Fleet Boat Mods Workshop.

When modding files, always copy the files you want to edit into a separate mod folder and build a file tree identical to the one its in so that you can use JSGME. All JSGME does is swap out the files that are in the stock folder with the ones in the mod folder and keeps track of the changes. This way if you mess up, you just unload your mod with JSGME, fix the files in your mod folder, then try again.

Thanks man :) I am also looking up programs to rip 3d models off of a PS2 Game and then insert them into silent hunter and retexture them. I don't know if you have ever heard of Naval Ops Warship gunner, but I would love to take the boss models and make mods for each. Then I would use the mission editor to basically make my own game, linear of course. Unless i could figure out how to group a task force onto the player unit in the campaign. Either way it would be cool.

A few fish will do it in

unless its built with three separated hulls so you can blow holes in each side for the two flight decks and the inner battleship hull is still intact to float it.

not to mention building something like this would have to include sacrificial double hulls so you would have to blow a hole in the first hull to get to the inner hull so you have three hulls each with a double hull so that's pretty darn indestructible in my view. if my speculations about it are correct that is.

Do you guys think it is possible to transform PS2 models into Silent hunter models?

merc4ulfate

Copying and transfering PS2 copyrighted material from games and adding those models to SH4 is a copyright violation.

Making your own designs and modifying others design with permission is perfectly acceptable.
