Yes, Your Internet Is Getting Slower

Your provider likes it that way. And the government doesn’t care,

The ongoing battle over broadband network neutrality is confusing, and the stakes for consumers and businesses are high. What’s the worst that can happen if network neutrality doesn’t prevail? Yes, you will pay more for worse service, but just how bad will it get? .

America, this is for you. Suckers.:shifty:

Sad to learn but for anyone of you in the UK on Virgin Media Broadband can expect a free upgrade from 30MB to 50MB or 50MB to 100MB (depending on your current package) as of August.

My internet connection isn't getting slower. As long as all the neighbors aren't on the loop at the same time.

If the ISPs refuse to upgrade their infrastructure, they'll get left in the dust of the gravity well. Can you blame them for wanting to cash in on the success of cable TV?
It's kind of funny. My cable provider is also my internet provider and my telephone provider.:D No more Dip Squat Line for this Lobo. Or crumby overpriced land line telephone.
If these fly by night broadband providers don't couple up with a fiber optic cable company they won't survive.

It is not bad speed considering I live in a valley and there is a granite hill between me and the tower. I have had a lot worse speeds from the same provider.

I'm noticing a few of the North American download speeds on here aren't that good but the upload speeds easily outpace mine.

No matter what speed your ISP says you're supposed to get, you'll only get 80% or less depending on traffic volume. If you're ISP is throttling it backwards but still charging you the top speed price, it's time to change provider if you can.:stare:

I just got a connection faster than 90KB/s (1.8MB/s (13ish mbps)for the first time in my life, its glorious.

Though I'm still jealous of Chattanooga's Local-Government-Owned Internet. (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/04/technology/fast-internet-service-speeds-business-development-in-chattanooga.html)

Not forgetting here in the UK is you home wired up with fiber optics? I bet the chances are no. Lots of speed to the junction box then all change for the slow lane to you.

Depends on whether you have the latest/fastest router.

I have Google's own Fiber network installed at my house, and this is on my desktop which has a 10/100 MB/s transfer rate. My other computer has a 10/100/1000 MB/s speed and my downloads are literally a gigabyte a second.

The only reason I stay with Telus is because of the mobility feature I have with this stick. I can use it all over Canada with no roaming charges. For us out here in the boonies Telus is the best choice.
Rogers and Bell just don't cut it. Rogers doesn't work at the house and Bell didn't bring their fiber optics line down close enough for me.:(

That would be all well and good if that little old government agency known as the FCC wasn't already a monopoly top loaded with people from another monopoly. Forget divide and conquer when you can infiltrate and usurp cheaper and still get paid to do it.
The government is a great big monster made up of many little monsters and the people we think we elect to tame the monsters are NOT monster tamers at all. They are monster enablers.:stare:
Write to your elected reps about a problem with one of these agencies and all you'll get in return is a nice form letter apologetically informing you that they have no authority to meddle in the affairs of a government agency. Posting to the FCC website will prove just as futile since the FCC is now loaded with industry insiders who won't get paid by the monopolies that put them there if they do anything to rock the money barge on the Potomac.

I always read where Japan and Europe have better internet than the US, better speeds, bandwidth and lower costs. The US consumer needs to hold the ISP's feet to the fire and get in line with the rest of the civilized world.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/3512037264.png

That may look good, but it comes at a cost of $150 a month.:-?
