Good day to you all.
I am Ballacraine, a greybeard grognard of many years standing.
As can be guessed from my avatar, I live on a small island between England & Ireland. :03:
I was a great fan of Fighting Steel, but can't get it to run on Windows 7
Bought SH 2 a few years back, but didn't really get to grips with it.
I'm hoping I am going to get to grips with my new purchase of SH 3.
BTW what is the general feeling about SH 4 & 5 compared to 3?
I am meaning in modded form not vanilla.

A varied and somewhat unusual assessment there.
Well done for picking up on Gef especially.
A bit surprised there was no mention of motorcycle road racing though. :o

I can understand the non-commital response. :03:
What I was attempting to do was assess which is the favoured base & the most comprehensively covered for modding.
Having been not grabbed by SH 2, I feel I have made a good decision with SH3, but am intrigued as to whether the modding community has sucessfully tweaked / revamped the later versions.

Nah! I collect watches-actually have Daniels' tome on watchmaking; go to the bike races: the Amgen comes through my town; and as per my thread last week on Gef from the front page of the Wall Street Journal,-talk to my Mongoose!...everyday!:D FYI: when Mr Daniels passed, he got an obit on his own page in the Economist magazine.:salute:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=213015 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=213015)

Usually, if anyone is familiar with my home it is because of the TT races.

However, it is not the only road race held here.

As you might guess real motorcycle road racing is one of my passions.
I have marshaled for the TT races for over 25 years. :yeah:

Welcome Ballacraine,
I had the same questions when I started with SH3-4, after having played SH2 many years ago.
IMHO: Both SH3 and SH4, if modded, are excellent. The conventional wisdom (I gleaned from subsim forums) is that SH3 provides better gameplay, and SH4 has better graphics. I think it's a small difference TBH.
The Purists seem to prefer SH3. I like both, and slightly prefer 4 because I like the Pacific theater (and I got started there in SH2).
I have not played SH5, so my opinion is useless there. I know SH5 is now well modded, and it definitely has the prettiest graphics - but also the worst (vanilla) gameplay of the series. IDH how well the mods have addressed that.
