Just read that on Subsim's front page. Probably a good move, but I still have reservations. Then again, I'm not in charge, nobody asked me, and my opinion doesn't count. Also probably a good thing. :sunny:
MMmMMmm could be hell to be locked up in an enclosed steel tube with them when PMT strikes...... :arrgh!:
I'll get my coat.
Sorry Old skool sailor with pusser sense of humour....:O:

She's nearly forty. A bit on the high side for a lieutenant, but the navy doesn't hire for looks, so opinions in that direction don't count. :sunny:

Best of luck to these young ladies. I hope their vigilance in the cold Atlantic lets England sleep better at night.

Ahh you all know after a few beers have removed your inhibitions you'd be all over Penny(the one with with the most inner beauty).
Just an observation I made over the years drinking with friends and knowing the effects myself.
It should be...... beer: helping people lower their inhibitions since 4,000 B.C.

If one can put aside the differences in gender and these ladies can perform to the same standard as the men I say why not. I fear however that what passed as acceptable may not be with this change. Here's to hoping they fit in with the rest of us bubbleheads! :()1:

Why must the women wear a chastity belt when the other sailors can control themselves? Or is that asking too much? :hmmm:

In 2002 we had a female sonar operator on U17. She was petty officer second class (Obermaat) and she was "Soni I" and i was "Soni II". Inside the sub nobody she was just a member of the crew. She did her job without any "strange" behaviour.
Since a couple of weeks the german navy has a female watch officer on class 212 subs:

In my opinion it´s no problem to go to the sea with femal crew members.

The United Kingdom has competition from France for the best women submarine sailors.
You don't think UK and France and USN know something we don't know about how to repopulate the world in case of a nuclear war do you?: http://www.defensenews.com/article/20140415/DEFREG01/304150034/French-Women-Crew-Ballistic-Missile-Sub-Fleet
PARIS — The French Navy plans to send three women officers to sail in the ballistic missile submarine fleet, a first for the French service, Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said April 15.
“The Navy chief of staff has decided on a trial basis to assign three women officers to a crew on the ballistic missile submarine fleet from 2017, following a selection of volunteers this year and after a training course starting in 2015,”

And then the captain was accused of sexual harassment when he ordered his periscope to be raised.
We're going to need a requisition of hot water bottles, birth control and feminine hygiene products from supply.

..(no pun intended) Spoilsport... :D
After spending most of my misspent high-school years surfing and the beaches were strewn with scantily clad bodies in the smallest bikinis, I joined the Air Force. On arriving for 3 months boot camp, there were about 30 woman also in training. Of course, been spoilt by daily 'beach visuals', this lot were like.... like the back of 30 busses. Mannn it was a let down.
BUT after 3 months of no beach and nothing else but whinging men for company.. I admit they were 'very attractive' :o. But I held my own and didn't let any of that lot touch it. :arrgh!: After all, I was a 'picky' fella.

The question is will they match up to those Russian women that fought in WW2?
Tricky one I'm just not that sure. :hmmm:

I think there wil be no problems on that score and if Tarjak's sub video this AM, with Aussie ladies on post, out-witting the US destroyers is a current example, this even better one of women literally running Western Approaches (Black May) should suffice: http://www.liverpoolwarmuseum.co.uk/maproom/ (http://www.liverpoolwarmuseum.co.uk/maproom/) http://www.liverpoolwarmuseum.co.uk/images/toppics/maproom.jpg" The main operations room was the nerve centre of the Battle of the Atlantic. Huge maps and diagrams of the Atlantic Ocean, convoy routes and the progress of our vital shipping lines was chartered and managed from here.
Much of vital and skilled work was in the capable hands of WRNS and WAAF personnel, and there were seldom less than 50 Wrens on duty here, day and night. This was a combined services operation and Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Marines would be working alongside each other.
On a massive table in the centre of the room, the ‘situation map’ would be located; on this chart enemy locations could be pin-pointed and total accuracy was necessary to enable the Royal Navy to contact and destroy the enemy." Whether telling the vessels where to go or being aboard, these ladies are 'not for turning' IMHO and that is an established English tradition from the PM (Falklands) on down.:salute:
