Interesting timing to pull him in the middle of an election campaign. Or is it merely a case of his past catching up with him?:hmmm:

This is as a result of the release of information from 'The Boston Tapes'
Last month, Ivor Bell, 77, a leader in the Provisional IRA in the 1970s, was charged with aiding and abetting the murder.
There have also been a number of other arrests over the murder recently.
The case against Bell is based on an interview he allegedly gave to researchers at Boston College in the US.
The Boston College tapes are a series of candid, confessional interviews with former loyalist and republican paramilitaries, designed to be an oral history of the Troubles.
The paramilitaries were told the tapes would only be made public after their deaths.
However, after a series of court cases in the United States, some of the content has been handed over to the authorities.
I doubt it will come to much....you can't cross examine someone on evidence they gave after they have died.

I listened to an interview of Michael McConville on R4 this morning and the sad thing is we all think that this is all a thing of the past and all is rosy over there now.
He said when he was 11 he was taken away the day after his mother and was beaten and threatened, if he told anyone who they were they would kill him.
To this day he knows who they are and even occasionally sees some of them out and about. Asked if he has told the police who they are he replied no, I will never tell who they are because I have family and children of my own, if I talk they will kill me or them.
It's only been fifteen years since the agreement came into accord, it's been several centuries of fighting, these wounds won't heal in our lifetime...but there's hope that they might in our childrens.

I don't follow this stuff really close, but what ever happen to Sinn Fein? Are they still a force in Northern Ireland?

Sinn Féin (/ʃɪn ˈfeɪn/ shin-fayn) is an Irish republican political party active in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. The name is Irish for "ourselves" or "we ourselves", although it is frequently mistranslated as "ourselves alone". Originating in the Sinn Féin organisation founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, it took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party (the other party is Workers' Party of Ireland), and has been associated with the Provisional IRA. Gerry Adams has been party president since 1983.
Sinn Féin is currently the second-largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly, where it has four ministerial posts in the power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive, and the fourth-largest party in the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic of Ireland

Police in Ireland have detained Gerry Adams for a second day of questioning.
To be sure, to be sure.

He's probably got his lawyers typing up one of those 'guilty but we'll not do anything about it' letters that caused a furore recently.

Wouldn't surprise me at all but I hope not.
Lock him up and the IRA will be back or is it the real IRA or that other name that slips my memory.

Its a stark choice, they can have peace or justice.
The government seems to be very very selective on seeking justice, so it does appear they want neither peace or justice.:nope:
And this is supposed to be the government of unity.:hmmm:

Religion and politics....I shudder at the thought and wish mankind would learn from past history.

The only thing we have learned is the fact we have not learned a bloody thing.

I wonder what we would know if the Stevens evidence hadn't unfortunately gone up in smoke

That would depend on what was in it.:)

I wonder if the government retained copies of the evidence that was seized then lost, or if they still have the originals locked safely away?
