Hello subsim community,

I always knew that my great uncle served on a u-boat and I also always wanted to talk to him about his experiences, but I somehow never managed to actually visit him.

After my most recent dive into Silent Hunter III, IV and V I finally pulled myself together and called him this morning. The goods news is, yes, he is willing to talk to me about his war experiences (something which is obviously not a given in Germany), but sadly he doesn't remember the number of his boat. What he does know is that he was stationed in La Pallice.

To prepare for the interview I need as much help as I can get, therefore I'm asking for your support.

Can any of you confirm that the only boats stationed in La Pallice where U-82, U-432, U-309, U-763, U-953, U-766, U-963, U-382, U-485 and U-255?

In exchange for your help I will gladly try to ask any questions you may have for him.

Sadly, I also cannot find his name on any of these websites:

http://historisches-marinearchiv.de/projekte/crewlisten/ww2/eingabe.php
http://www.u-boote-online.de/mannschaften/suche.php
http://www.uboat.net:8080/boats/listing.html

Is anybody aware of any other source that could help me find the boat he served on?

I'll probably call him this week and see if he can remember any of the commanders names of the boats mentioned above.

Hi there,

Sorry for the late reply.

There is an official service that may be able to help, if you are willing to wait some time. When I did some research about one of my grand fathers, I contacted the WAst (http://www.dd-wast.de/) for information and they provided me with some info that I did not know or was not certain off. The fee a few years ago was 16 Euro, and the wait was I believe around 3 month.

I hope that helps.

All the best,
