2 Dutch QRA F-16s were also scrambled to this Bear it appears. According to the story (sorry, only dutch) it only entered the most northern section of our airspace. But since the Brits had the situation under control they stood down.

I believe the Bear in question got a welcome reception from us, the Dutch and the Danish. :yep:

EDIT: I like the fact that one of the Bears has come prepared for being put up on the Beebs website, check the tail :haha: (it actually translates to VVS [Voyenno-Vozdushnye Sily] Rossii, or Military Air Forces Russia)

Excellent photographs. The Tu-95 is pretty much the only Russian aircraft I've ever truly admired. :)

It's an icon, the Bear, to anyone who likes the Cold War era, the good old rugged Bear, plodding on and on and on.

I like this comment that I read on the translation notes of a South Korean cartoon, it was a quote from an RAF Phantom flier:

In the daytime the mission was straightforward, and there was time for a little play with the “Bears”. As far as the Soviets went, this got a little out of hand, for they started putting a KGB officer on board to stop the crew waving at us.

Some “Bear” variants had a crawl way between the front and back compartments — a long and uncomfortable journey that involved clambering over unprotected wing spars and other obstructions. We soon worked out that by moving our jet forwards and backwards we could get this poor idiot to spend hours crawling back and forth down this tunnel, just to stop the crew from waving at us
