Gentleman,
I'm curious if anyone know of a mod where it replaces the exaggerated hull creaks and groans with more subtle ones.
Being on a sub myself (not tooting my fog horn) Realistically speaking the only sounds my boat ever made was subtle ticks and cracks when we'd go deep. Mostly caused from the walls and doors adjusting the the dimensional changes in the compression of the hull.
But I must say the stock creaks and groans are waaaaaaay overdone.
Is there a mod out there like this that I'm unaware of?
Thanks Gents...:salute:

Hiya,
Only one i've come across and used is 'Stormys_DBSM_SH5_v1.3_optional_scary_creaks'
As it says that's gonna be the opposite of what you wanted
But, u could compare that to stock and maybe tone down to your liking ;)

Here is one that was put up less than a month ago.

You can also use your computer's onboard Sound Recorder to lower the volume on the stock ones.

Revealing that our subs only make subtle ticks and cracks when going deep or adjust to dimensional compression is still classified!:D

LOOOOOOOOOOLLLL
Oh don't worry sadly the russian akula II's are way beyond our sound dampening capabilities!!!
They already know we suck right now...:/\\!!
Hopefully these Virginia's give em a run for their money... But their plagued with bugs like a 1st gen ipod

First of all, Milkman, and anyone else who has been in the US military: Thank you for your service. I was never qualified to wear the uniform (my screen name has a LOT of meanings :)), and I am grateful to all of you who have.
As far as the creaks and groans are concerned, I don't know how much you can infer about a Gato from a modern boat. The only evidence I know of is negative: Hull noise is hardly ever mentioned in the contemporary accounts. I seem to recall a comment in Dick O'Kane's account of taking Tang to way below proof depth in a test dive, but that was an exceptional situation. Since other sounds (and smells!) are covered at length in the first-person accounts, we can speculate that there wasn't a lot of creaking, unlike the sound track in SH345.
Does anyone have any better information on this subject? If the creaking is all just some game designer's skull noise, it would be easy to tone it down or eliminate it entirely.

Just some feedback...
A submarines most important ability is to remain quiet. If your hull creaks and groans not only will the people inside the sub hear it but the people listening will hear it to.
Once the hull adjusts to the sea pressure and flexes accordingly the creaking stops...... until sea pressure changes IE increasing and decreasing in depth..
A submarine really does not make many noises as the hull is designed to flex with sea pressure. Having an educated guess id say this really would apply for all subs.
Although the possibility of an older boat being noisier is likley considering the change in design in sound dampening structural components. Nothing on modern submarines is directly attached to the hull. It all floats on huge fixtures with integrated rubber sound insulators.
That was the major advancement with boats after WW2.
The only thing I can say for sure is that after the ships reaches a stable depth, the hull creaks should stop.:know:
The creaks are pure hollywood

Milkman, I followed your advice. I nulled creak files 1 to 3. Creak4.wav I attenuated 10 dB, so I still get some sound at depth, but just soft ticks and pops. Don't know how to make it play only during transitions. The boat is now quiet when running silent.
BTW, I don't think the creaking is literally from Hollywood. I think it is straight from the sound track of Everyone's-Favorite-Sub-Movie-That-We-Know-Is-Realistic-Because-It-Wasn't-Made-In-Hollywood. I can't recall ever hearing the creaking in a Made-in-Hollywood sub movie.

Can I get those sound files off you?
