This is the second tragic incident in recent years but the gunmen took his own life this time and was known or believed to have mental health problems.

A soldier shot dead three colleagues and injured 16 others at the US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas before killing himself, the military says.

US media named the suspect as Ivan Lopez, 34, although his identity has not been officially confirmed.

An update on this story, seems the gunman was being treated for PTSD. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/fort-hood-shooting/four-dead-fort-hood-three-victims-plus-gunman-killed-n70276

But they're not trained to, nor expected to, kill colleagues on their home turf. :nope:

True dat. That leaves only the reason... why?
Claiming he suffered from PTSD is a copout. Over extended tours of duty in a combat zone would make even the sanest man go insane.
We seem to have an abundance of whack jobs going postal these days.
Unfortunately, during my stint in the military, I learned that the so called superiors. were not superior in any way, shape or form.

Bottom line...
Pointing a finger of accusation is a waste of time because there are three more fingers pointing back at the guilty party. The accuser.
War isn't healthy for anyone involved.
Best not to engage in the practice of it.

You need to get that message across to governments and those who elect them.

A noble idea. Only one problem. They only listen to the folks with lots of money. Weapon producers.:-?

I shouldn't laugh in such a serious thread, but :har: , doesn't matter who you elect because the defence industries have the megabucks. And if you don't have war you don't need an army, navy, or air force, if you don't need those that's over 2m jobs you've directly lost in the US, and goodness knows how many civilian supporting roles, local businesses, and suppliers.

Vote loser, will never happen even if would ever be possible with the world situation.

It's a nice idea though.

People die every day by the thousands.
Does it really matter the how, when or where?

This planet is not a safe place to live for fragile creatures like Homo Sapiens.
Sadly, it only seems to matter to the newshounds who want to make a big deal out of it. From star personalities on down to the grunts in the military.

I feel for every family member that loses a loved one but, if I dwelled on it constantly, I would become so despondent, I wouldn't be able to get out of bed.:yep:

True that but the thought of some people benefitting from the demise of others just doesn't sit right with me.

But that's how the world turns around I suppose.

As long as their are men and nations, there will be war. You can't pin the whole thing on the Military Industrial Complex. We've been waging war and killing each other since the dawn of our own existence.

Nope, I pin it on the weak minded pissed off fools who think killing is the answer to all their problems.
Though I do raise an eyebrow at the low brows who profit from this line of thinking and I don't put anything past these greedy SOBs and their desire to sell more weapons. Oh well, we have tons of people their weapons can be used on.:nope:
Let's just call it population control that's more efficient than kismet or homosexuality.
Fort Hood has some duty slots open. Who wants a promotion?

They say that when a guy gets out of the service he is promoted to PFC.

PFC = Proud, (that X word Swamprat mentioned above), Civilian.

Q: Why doesn't the military just take these nut jobs and drop them into an enemy base?

A: The media needs horror stories.

When I left school we had conscription.. so off to training I went.
Coming from a 'normal' home evironment, I never 'met' so many nut jobs, thieves, etc... even rapists.

By the end of our basic training (3 months) about 20 were in prison already, approx 10% of the intake. It was a real eye-opener for me... where do these animals come from ??
:o

We carried weapons, but never had live ammunition, even during the high stress times some years later.
