For targeting operations please see this thread it is filled with a lot of very good information including the Dick O'Kane manual targeting method.
As far as modding anything from steam ... I refuse to use anything from steam so I do not know.

This is probably one of the very best videos I've seen on how to use sonar only manual targeting...

After watching that video, you just might think it's just a bit too easy.
I have seen one other on passive sound readings only. And that is a bit tough because you have to triangulate range using bearings only. I don't have the link to it though. I don't recommend using passive only unless you are some type of super captain and just need a strong challenge.

It must be something simple as I imagine that a lot of players have the steam versions of sh4 and have trigger maru running I just want to play the game I have learnt how to play but I still need to find a different way of putting in the range instead of using the steady scope as I don't want to gestamate as I have seen on YouTube I am hoping there's a way to use the tools u get on sh3/sh5

This is the most step-by-step instructions I could find.

Just note that when installing JSGME, it is not going to be the folder specified in the instructions (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific), you have to install JSGME to wherever Steam installed Silent Hunter 4.

Nice work :yep:
There is also a .pdf guide made by the author of JSGME below in my signature.

Hi. I have the Steam version of SH4 too. If you have SH4 just by itself, without U-Boat addons, TMO won't work as the SH4 Steam version is only 1.3. So you have to buy the U-Boat missions add-on to get version 1.5.
If you have them already, the installation process is easy.
Download JSGME and extract its contents inside your SH4 folder (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific)
After that, download TMO or whatever mod you want, extract it and put it inside the "MOD" folder that comes with JSGME (which is inside the SH4 folder). Now open JSGME then enable them. Done :D.
For the range questions. There are more experienced skippers out there, they should be able to help you.
