I've downloaded several SH4 mods but have been unable to download the JSGME software available here ("...no association for opening..." I had tried downloading the JSGME from another source, but no MOD folder was generated. I'm running Windows 8. Any suggestions (please)? Can I install the add-ons without the JSGME?

Did you put the JSGME inside the main Silent Hunter folder?

Did you follow the instructions here:

I recently came back to sub simming from a long break and have windows 8. Im not sure if its related to windows 8 or not but I had a similar experience. What I had to do was unzip the contents from jsgme that I downloaded which included the jsgme application, mods folder, and about 3 or 4 other files with it.

Then instead of trying to "install" jsgme I copied all of the unzipped files in to my main sh4 directory and when I run the jsgme application from that spot it recognizes it as being installed properly as the mods folder would have been copied with everything else that you copied from unzipping jsgme.

Im not sure if this will help or not but this is what I had to do and it works for me.

EDIT: By me saying I had a similar experience I should elaborate. When I had used jsgme years ago it seemed that I had to "install" it vs just copying the contents of the zip file in to my main sh4 directory (I may have been wrong on that but its what I remembered). When you said "it didn't generate a mods folder" Im thinking that may have been what I ran in to when I came back as when I ran the jsgme application I had expected it to install but instead it was the program itself.

Thanks. I'll work on this some. I don't think I'd just loaded the zipped mods into the game yet. I'll do a reinstall of the JSGME, too.

Just wanted to point out so there is no confusion on my post above. When I say I copied the contents of jsgme in to my main sh4 directory im referring only to the jsgme download itself. All other mods have to be in the "mods" folder. Just wanted to save you some grief if you weren't clear on this. Good luck.
