70th Anniversary of the Great Escape is being commemorated by a 170km march by RAF personnel in Poland from the site of Stalag Luft III to a military cemetry in Poznan.

A very fitting commemoration IMO.:salute:

76 escaped, 50 where executed by the Gestapo, 17 where returned to Stalag Luft III, 4 where sent to the concentration camp at Sachsenhausen, only three made "Home runs".:salute:

For those interested there's a book about a less well know escape also make from Stalag Luft III called The Wooden Horse by Eric Williams. http://www.amazon.com/The-Wooden-Horse-Classic-Escape/dp/1628736690/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1VQTRKYB29DJTPWP6GDE
