Wow. That's an impressive collection, and well found.
If he's worried about the pictures and letters being tucked away in a museum and forgotten then he should put serious thought towards getting them scanned and put up on a website somewhere so that the whole world can look through them.

A fantastic find but it saddens me to think of the countless numbers that must have been thrown away as rubbish over the years.

I am surprised that Sussex Council have not jumped on him to hand them over, stating that it is ALL their property as it was in the trash...
A similar thing happened up here years ago (before internet) and the guy was charged with theft of council property.:o

Good point...I don't doubt for a second that is what they would have done if the property had a tangible known value.
