What does the Alarm Button do?

In SH4 at least your men got fatigued if left at battlestations. I don't know if it happens in SH5 because the crew management is so different. I haven't even timed things like torpedo loading drills or dive times with the alarm raised or not - you could try it I suppose! but to be on the safeside I always call battlestations when I expect contact; and then remember to relieve the watch when action has ended.
