Question about "Report contacts" and "Send contact report"

Hello all,

Can anyone maybe explain to me what they both do? What is the difference and function of them? What can happen if I click on 1 of them?

Not sure (I'm not playing SH5 currently) but I believe "Report Contact" is the button implementation of "Report nearest radio contact" a command which does not have a key binding in SH5. "Send contact report" which does not have a key binding in SH5 either, orders the radio operator to transmit the most recent contact report. The mouse-over tips don't make the difference clear.

In SH3, "Report nearest visual contact" is CTRL-U, and "Send contact report" is SHIFT-U. I'd guess the command execution is the same in both games. They have the same menu IDs in both games.

I don't really understand this either.

I don't THINK the "report contact" button does anything but I cant be sure, so when I send a contact report I report contacts as well!

Basically when I come upon a convoy I'll shadow it using send contact reports to BDU along with sending weather reports and wait for instructions or a wolfpack to form.

I hope someone knows specifically though what the "report contact" button does and if it is different to the "send contact report" button.

I would like to know that too. And: Can the enemy catch this sending reports and then know where we are? Then this would be dangerous and when this sending reports don't have any influence to the game it makes absolutly no sense.

The report contact is meant to be used for Neutral, Friendly, and ships that you have already sunk and/or have engaged.

The send contact report is meant to be used when you come upon a convoy or warship/ships that you have not already engaged and want the possibility of BDU sending a wolf-pack to help you.

And yes anytime you transmit over the radio their is a chance of any near by ship/ships knowing your general position.

"Report Contacts": Has your Watch Officer or Sound Man tell you if he sees or hears anything.

"Send Contact Report": Sends a radio message to BdU telling them you have a contact. If it's a convoy this lets them decide what they are going to tell you to do next. When you receive a Contact Report it means that some other boat has done the same.
