Hi drronnie
What a cheat selling a second hand SH5 that cannot be used.
The only person who can use it is the one who originally installed it.
Important now that you check your Control Panel and see if there is anything relating to SH5 or Ubisoft/Uplay that needs to be removed.
Also check your Program (x86) folder also for a Ubisoft folder.
Use a registry cleaner.
If you do not have one there is a free one in my downloads section.
If you want to use German language with your new dvd then choose the custom install.
Check out my tutorial list when you have installed as it could save you time and grief.

Hi drronnie
Installing from your new dvd then use the custom option.
This will also give you the opportunity to select the crew language.
You will see the default in place that wants to use the C drive but you can use the Browse button to set up your installation in any way that you choose.
D:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5
Remember to use my tutorial Post #5 to update your game.
This usually results in a windows error message showing that just needs to be closed.
Use my tutorial Post #173 to fix the problem.

Today I got my DVD from the UK. Installed and tried to patch up to 1.2 and guess what "activation key" already in use. Really made my day not

Hi drronnie
The activation key cannot be the same as any previous dvd as it is unique to that disk.
The fact that you bought it from Ebay is a bit worrying as unless it is a sealed package you might have ended up with a second hand dvd.
Did the seller state that it was new and unused?
1. The dvd must be new not second hand.
2. You need a new Uplay login.
3. Set up a new Uplay account.
4. Use a new email address.
5. Use a new password.
6. Activate the dvd.

Is the method described in intercepting a convoy really necessary? I remember there was some sort of quicker method in SH3 I learned about years ago (maybe it wouldn't work in sh5)- it involved making a couple circles with the compass, some basic calculations and marking where the circles intercepted - I used it alot and it worked. Wish I could remember what it was - any ideas?
THEBERBSTER
11-24-15, 05:34 AM
Hi stbw
I am not aware of the 2 circles method.
You do not describe the method that you do not want to use
Is the convoy visible on hydrophne?
Is a radio message telling you of a convoy and giving you the co-ordinates?
Stoianm did a YouTube video where he intercepted a convoy just by receiving a radio message.

yes that's the method I was referring to - are there alternatives? I remember one that I learned on the forums years ago that you could use when getting the radio contact info on a concoy position that worked with SH3 and it was much simpler with fewer calculations - involved a couple compass circle markings, couple angles and marking an intersection at some point. Wish I could remember where I saw it and what it was. Anyways, I guess I'm just lazy and don't want to go through all the steps listed in that method (the one with theyoutube video-3 of them).
I currently don't use real navigation = using the Wolves from the Deep 1.03 mega mod. Trying to figure out manual TDC using the mod. I used to have it down to a science in SH3, but it seems like in SH5 there are all sorts of idiosyncracies with the rec manual, and code in general, that you have to keep in mind and know about as different mods effect your periscope view and rec manual, stadimeter, etc. I just can't seem to keep track of it all. I barely play the game anymore because keeping everything straight has gotten so complicated for me.
THEBERBSTER

I can visualize using the compass to create the 2 circles or using the ruler to create an intercept position.
A certain amount of plotting would still need to be done from the radio information.
Time first reported.
Time now.
Contacts speed.
Contacts course.
Using the compass or ruler you can estimate where the target is likely to be at anytime by measuring time-distance-speed.
Taking the same actions with your sub theoretically you would meet where you cross each other.
At some point you should be able to get a more accurate plot by diving and getting a sonar report and adjusting your position to the contacts position accordingly.
Peter
hello, I have a problem with controlling the manual torpedo . I now have 5 tutorials looked at but I have the problem that I always overshoots . I draw a direction of travel and the distance . then look I measure the angle of my boat to the direction of the enemy . after the enemy has moved to the distance line past I visors and shoot but every my Torps arrive too early .
may I AOB enter only when the ship moves through my line ?
THEBERBSTER

Hi bloks
Manual targeting is not difficult once you know what the basics are and I have explained a simple 90 degree fast shoot that you can use with great success.
I am assuming you are using map contacts where you see ships on the maps.
Draw out a course line (TCL) from the target past your sub.
Make a 90 degree angle with the protractor on the TCL.
Position your sub on the line to take up a firing point 800-1000 metres.
It is very important to get the targets speed correctly.
Use the 3 minutes and 15 seconds method to do this.
Pause the game.
Expand the map so you can place a tool mark X on the bow.
Start the stopwatch un-pause the game.
At 3 minutes 15 seconds pause the game again.
Place another tool mark X on the bow.
With the compass measure the distance across the 2 X marks.
600 metres = 6 knots and so on.
Press the TDC button to open it manually.
Put your periscope bearing on 0 degrees.
Enter your AOB 90 degrees either port or starboard.
Enter the speed 6 knots.
Enter the range 1000 metres.
Press the TDC button again to close it.
It is important now to set your torpedo speed as the TDC needs to calculate the impact point taking into account the targets speed (where it will be) and the speed of the torpedo (what bearing to fire from).
Now turn your periscope until you see both of the gyro dials pointing vertically.
The periscopes bearing degrees and the 2 vertical gyro's is the position it needs to be in when you press the torpedo fire button.
As you move the periscope on to the target the TDC will automatically adjust as you will see from the gyro angles changing.
You can lock the target to identify it if you wish.
This will allow you to set the torpedo/s depth.
You will see your manual data showing in the TDC.
You do not need to be locked to the target to the fire the torpedo/s
You can for example put the periscope bearing on to the firing bearing and just wait for the target to cross over it and then fire at different places on the hull without having to move the periscope.
Always make sure your torpedo doors are open other wise you will most likely miss.
The range on a 90 degree fast shoot is not important but a range still needs to be entered in the TDC.
Anything you are not sure about just let me know.
Peter
Very very thanks. you are my hero....!!!

Hi Peter...:salute:
You know, it would be much easier for all if you could be a bit more restrained when declaring mods compatibility.
I'm not quite sure what do you assume by term "compatible mods" but it certainly should not be just "no CTD" or "no problems so far"...If you aren't very well familiar with every single file contained within the mods how can you be so sure that some temporarily hidden problems will not eventually emerge? :hmm2:
Right now, your modlist contains several mods which are already included in TWoS for some time, plus few incompatible mods. This wont do any good to anyone...
Also , how can you claim that SM Interior is compatible if you are very well aware the fact that TWoS already contains SW Interior mod? :06: I know that you use this mod for some time, apparently "without CTDs and other issues", but this is just not enough. Both of them are very complex mods and to declare them compatible without actual understanding of files/changes is not much helpful.:yep:
I understand that you just wont to help, but please, for now leave mods compatibility to me and when I eventually create list of TWoS compatible mods I will send it to you ASAP...

It is not my intention to upset you and in respect of that I will remove then immediately.
I do understand that what may well work for me may not for someone else and then the problem comes to you to sort out.

Hi all.
I have just brought Silent Hunter 5 via ebay and believed that it was ok to use the activation key,now I find out that once the key has been used,it cannot be used again by someone who brought the disc from the original purchaser.
Does anybody know where I can buy the key(as cheap as possible) please?

Hi DSW
As you have discovered although you can buy second hand SH5 dvd's they are useless.
As you have bought it through Ebay you should be able to return it and get a refund.
If the seller refuses to accept it back then contact Ebay and explain the situation that the seller has sold you something you cannot use.
If you paid for the dvd through Paypal you have an option here also if necessary.
It maybe your seller quite innocently did not know that the dvd is locked to the original system for life, you will soon find out when you ask to return it.
I would suggest you pick up a new dvd from Amazon or you could purchase a download but not Steam.
Not the best way to welcome you back to Subsim.

I have spoken with the seller.I really believe that he is being truthful(after checking his feedback) when he told me that he had no idea that once the key had been used,it could not be used by another person. He has offered a refund, but as I did not pay much for the game(thinking that I had fell on my feet) I will put this down to experience.
My asking if anybody knew where I could get a key was a last ditch attempt by me to use the disc.
Thanks for the info, I know what to look for now and will be more careful.

sh5.exe genericpatcher to work with steam.
Hi:)
First off, I'm new to these forums so I'm really sorry if I'm being redundant with this information.
I'm really sleepy after a day of work and I just wanted to write down the steps, but I thought that perhaps somebody would like to try this already so instead of cleaning up the steps and keeping the steps for myself another couple of days I'll just publish this rough draft and let you guys have any eventual laughs due to my mistakes.:)I will try to clean it up by tomorrow evening or so.
I do appreciate that this is not fun for anybody, so please only do this if you know what you're doing until enough people can confirm that this actually works or if I'm all wrong and making a fool out of myself.
This is kind of like a science experiment, I have results I want you guys to try to reproduce. Thank you for helping me out:
1.
Go download "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu.exe" from:
http://www.4players.de/4players.php/...oad/55318.html (http://www.4players.de/4players.php/download_start/Downloads/Download/55318.html)
2.
Download & Install: http://legroom.net/scripts/download....=uniextract161 (http://legroom.net/scripts/download.php?file=uniextract161)
3.
Right click on the "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu.exe" you downloaded in step 1. choose "UniExtract to Subdir", choose "isxunpack extraction" under "Extract Method".
4.
Step 3 should have resulted in a folder called "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu"
5.
Download & Install the "InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer"
http://www.mediafire.com/download/b527nf6771b2u4j/InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/download/b527nf6771b2u4j/InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer.rar)
6.
Start program and go to File => Open => "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu\Disk1\data1.hdr"
7.
View => Components
8.
Click on "Game" and then "Files", find sh5.exe in the list.
save it on your desktop.
9.
Start up Steam, right click on "Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic" => Properties => local files => Browse Local files.
10.
Find the sh5.exe file in the list and rename it to sh5_steam.exe.
11.
Go to your desktop and rename the sh5.exe file which you extracted from the ubisoft patches cab file to sh5_patched.exe and copy it into your silent hunter 5 folder where the sh5_steam.exe you renamed file resides.
12.
Copy the sh5_patched.exe file so you have 2 of them, and rename one of them sh5.exe
Tadaa
Now you should be able to run the genericpatcher and update your sh5.exe file and when you launch it from steam it wont make a difference since steam is actually only launching uplay, and uplay does not seem to care if you're running a modded file or not.
Im assuming its legal because we are just getting the patch ubi made, so we are not cracking anything. It might go against steams EULA though... but then again I'm not so sure about where things stand in regards to the legality of modifying binary files on a whole. anyway hydrophone works, yay.
edit:
https://twitter.com/steam_support/st...10796128243712 (https://twitter.com/steam_support/status/113010796128243712)
https://twitter.com/deadislandgame/s...96399760142336 (https://twitter.com/deadislandgame/status/112296399760142336)
...seems like we should be safe.
When things go wrong
If you get an error when trying to run "InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer", please try downloading whatever file its saying that you're missing from here:
Example: http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomctl.cab (http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomctl.cab)
Then extract the cab file and copy the file into your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 [windows 7] or c:\Windows\System32 folder, [for older versions of windows]
Start your terminal (run => cmd.exe) and type
cd<push spacebar>C:\Windows\SysWOW64 or c:\Windows\System32<push Enter key>
The prompt should change to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64 or c:\Windows\System32
Then type:
regsvr32<push spacebar>mscomctl.ocx <push Enter key>
Oh right, so the reason I wanted you to make a backup of the sh5.exe file is two fold, one is so that you can go back to the steam version if you think my idea is stupid. second, sometimes steam will overwrite your .exe file, its not happened to me yet, but i know that if you run "validate my files" it will see that you have modified your file and assume it is broken because its not the same size it knows it should be and overwrite it. So you should be covered in both cases.

My only suggestion is to PM one of the post users or sirrawrsalot and Kevinsue and see if they can email it to you.
Googling this http://www.npackd.org/p/net.legroom.UniversalExtractor/1.6.1
explains a bit more of what this seems to do.
If you can get the SH5 dvd then this would be the best option for now and any future re-installation.

Hey, I need more help. I was able to fix the uniextract problem by finding a mirror for it on mediafire. My next problem now is step five, which is installing "InstallShield Cabinet File Viewer". In the link he provided, the .rar file merely contains an InstallShield folder with a few files and a few executables. I've tried opening two of the .exe files (ISCAB, and ISCabVu). ISCAB opens up a command prompt window then immediately closes. Nothing else happens. ISCabVu gives me this error: "Component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid". I've already tried looking up solutions on google, but alas, I can't find any for my problem. Help?

Can I change the campaign mission objective (e. g. between 'British supplies' and 'German blockade') on the fly via editing? That is a good question, but not one I can answer unfortunately.
vdr1981 with his TWOS would I am sure know the answer. to your question.
An option you do have is to select any of the Campaign by starting a New Career.
You cannot transfer your old crews abilities or keep any promotion points.
Any Campaign you select starts with a novice crew.
If you select for instance a 1943 Campaign your inexperienced crew will be up against a much more experienced enemy until they have completed some of the missions.
Your selected Campaign will end and the next Campaign will start at the appropriate date and time.
When you start a New Career you see the default Campaign 'Coastal Waters'.
https://s8.postimg.org/ptmlds9lh/New_Career_image.jpg
To select any Campaign just type in silentotto in the area where you see my mouse curser.
You then see all the Campaigns.
Select your realism setting.
Click on the Campaign you wish to use.
Press Start Game.

For now I play the game without the Wolfs of Steel mod and it works surprisingly well. I now changed the objective to 'Blockade of Germany' in port and raided Scapa Flow for armed merchant cruisers,

How to roll back your GPU Driver to a previous version.
If you have just experienced a black screen when starting your Silent Hunter game then a Windows update will have changed your GPU Driver to a later version.
This tutorial will show you how you can get your game back.
Picture 1 > Go to the Windows start Icon in the bottom left hand corner.
https://s14.postimg.cc/6cye2yqvl/image.jpg
Picture 2 > Click on the Settings Icon.

Picture 5 > Click on Properties.
https://s14.postimg.cc/y0b3hb4f5/image.jpg
Picture 6 > Change from General to Driver Tab.
The Driver Tab shows various options available to you.
Update Your Driver is worth considering as it may fix the problem.
https://s14.postimg.cc/vx59mz1ld/image.jpg
Picture 7 > Option 3 is to Roll Back Driver.
https://s14.postimg.cc/49sk8qb81/image.jpg
If this is not greyed out as in the picture then this option is available to you and recommended.
The Roll back process takes less than a minute to do this.
Click on ‘Close’ to finish the process.
Restart your system.
You now need to make changes to your GPU settings as these will have been removed in the roll back process.
Got to Tutorial Post #239 to do this.

How To Change Your Games Renown
This tutorial will show you how to increase your Renown so you can buy more equipment without having to earn it.
This is not cheating in my opinion as new equipment would have been fitted to existing U-Boats at a convenient time as it became available.
To make these changes you need to have 2 saved games 00000000 the master and your last one.
Your last saved game means the one from your last gaming session by Date and Time.
The changes are done in the Notepad.
Follow the paths until you find each Notepad.
Follow the instructions as showing in each of the pictures.
The amount of Renown you choose to enter is entirely down to you.

Why does my 4k TV show 4k at 60Hz but only 1440P at 30Hz?
Extracts from Internet discussions.
I have the same tv 40ub8000 and not only i can have 1080p 1440p, 1600p @60fps but i can put them at 77fps (can you say overclocking? ).
The only trick is to put your resolution at 1080p then from there create the customs resolutions.
So the ones that fit the screen the screen best are the 1080p and 1440p @77hz.
Unfortunately you cannot overclock the screen on 4k.
When you are at 1440p, the TVs information will still say it is at 1080p
I just set the resolution to 1080p and then made a custom 1440p one in the Nvidia Controll Panel and set the refresh rate to 60 and it stuck!
Play tested Assassins Creed Unity and the 1440p resolution option is now available at 60hz.
I set the AA to TXAA and it looks gorgeous and i gained 15-20 fps and saving 300-400 mb of Vram!
i have a completely different phillips 55 inch 4k TV.

literally trying one of your tutorials for the first time (Post #10 Deck Gun Crew Testing Using TDW's NewUI) and I can't see the "Bullet Spark Test" in my list of Historical Scenarios. Am I missing some (i.e. with set up) - I followed the TWoS instructions for Steam. I've also searched the forum for "Bullet Spark Test" and only reference is in your post.

yes, sorry matey, If it's called that it ain't in my list. Is it a stock SH5 scenario?
The reason I ask, I followed all the Steam + TWoS install and it appears all went to plan, except when I ran the game from Steam it went through some UPlay sh*t which created a NEW sh5.exe. I was wondering if this might be the root of my problem?
Thanks for responding anyways, much appreciated.

You cannot run Steam with TWOS.
TWOS uses an essential application that STEAM is incompatible with.
You need to use this conversion.

I followed that thread when installing. I have the 3 exe file (sh5_patched, sh5 which is the copy of sh5_patched and sh5_steam). When I first started SH5 from steam I assume it runs the patched exe? For me though it first ran through a UbiSoft Uplay initialisation which created a new sh5.exe. If I run anything but that UBI exe (i.e. via deleting sh5.exe and making a new one from of sh5_patched, SH crashes when loading the scenario.
Having never played SH5 before (with or without mods), I'm not sure if the UI is TWOS modded or not.
THEBERBSTER

Hi CM
Now you should be able to run the genericpatcher and update your sh5.exe file and when you launch it from steam it wont make a difference since steam is actually only launching uplay, and uplay does not seem to care if you're running a modded file or not.TDW's NewUi_7_4_2 and 7_5_0 versions are interfaces that allow you to talk to your crew and give orders.
This mod and the Open Horizons mod are essential along with Trevally's Tutorial mod which are the tutorials that you see in Historical Missions.

Hi k
Your Amazon download is fine for playing SH5.
Uplay controls the security of the game to make sure you are using a valid version.
If you are referring to your driver not meeting the installation requirement this will be because the installation is looking at the drivers that were available when the game was originally launched so you can ignore that.
You need to check out the following.

Also this.

How do u run ur sh5? You can launch the game from the SH5.exe.
You can have the SH5.exe icon in your task bar for easy access.
You can also launch the game from the Ubisoft game launcher in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\
1st game launcher icon (application).
If KSDCommander is being used then you run your game from there.

Hi,
I too decided to go the Amazon Digital down load (UPlay) route, it was £4, a cheap experiment (and steam are good at reimbursing).
The install went fine and I applied the TWoS Mod and then TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0. All seems OK except for missing fonts. I've attached screenshots.

Good question!
If you have bought your download from Amazon they will also have given you an installation key that you will need.
When the game installs it connects to Uplay you will need to set up an account.
Email address
Password
Installation key number.
Important that you do not lose these details.

Post #70 How To Use The Free Registry Cleaner 'Ccleaner' > Includes Download Link (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2202382&postcount=70)
Use the free Registry cleaner and then re-boot your system.
I install from a dvd, you are installing from a download which should not be a problem as many do this.
You should see an option to start the download from your seller, this may take some time depending on your system and routers capability.
towards the end of the installation you will see an error regarding your gpu card which can be ignored, just press the prompt key to continue.
Once the download has completed exit any open screens.
Follow this tutorial.

From Uplay if purchased from them.

Hello,
It has been a while since I ran & played SH5.
I’m running Windows 10 (64bit) – Nvidia 970 GTX 4gb – 16gb Ram & screen resolution of 1920x1080, 16:9 ratio.
I have SH5 Gold Edition installed from Uplay download. I’ve installed it on one of my other drives (not C). I only play offline.
I’ve read and followed all your SH5 tutorials & how to do it information, and set up The Game – JSGME – NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_TheDarkWraith, along with TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0 and TDW_OptionsFileEditorViewer_v_1_0_32_0. All installed correctly.
Everything seems fine to this point.
My first question is – Should I enable NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_TheDarkWraith in JSGME before I start the game for the 1st time ? or Should I run the game first and do the tutorial, save, exit, then enable the NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_TheDarkWraith mod ?.
Secondly – Could you tell me the ‘exact location’ of my manual save(s). Also the ‘exact location’ of the autosave(s). This is very confusing, even by checking the date stamp of the files. They all look very alike.
Would be obliged if you could help.

Should I run the game first and do the tutorial, You only need to start the tutorial and then exit.

Hello THEBERBSTER,
Thanks for you help & info. Everything running smooth.
Your tutorials, info & links are a great. Very useful, especially for 'Old Salts' like myself. Keep up the good work.
Just one question about Speech Recognition.
I have tried to get the 'Speech Recognition_MiTonsEdition_v0.4_english' mod to work with 'NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_TheDarkWraith' mod, but no joy.
In game I have the icon near top right of screen, which allows you to enable it, but does not work.
The 'SHSpeechEngineTest' in the mod folder does not work for me either.
I have trained my system many times & my mic is fine. I use 'Voice Attack' with some other games & no problems.
I could use 'Voice Attack' but it is limited because of my lack of knowledge making a profile for it.
Anyway 'Speech Recognition_MiTonsEdition_v0.4_english' seems to be more comprehensive with extensively more commands.
Is there any way that you know of to get this working ?
From one Old Salt to another. Thanks. lowbow. :Kaleun_Salute:

Hi lb
Unzip the mod
Open the folder showing
Open the mods folder.
Use the copy tab and ok.
Close the zip file.
Copy and paste the speech mod to your JSGME mods folder.
Enable the mod.
Open the mod an use the speech test engine and try out a few commands.
This can be done with the mod enabled or disabled.
If recognized you will see them displayed in the box.
In your game press the speech icon.
Click in the speech enabled and it should light up.
Click on X to exit.
You can check that all is working by pressing the speech icon and you will see the enabled light lit.

Hello THEBERBSTER,
I tried the 'Speech Recognition' mod but cant' get it to work. It is as if it can't hear anything from me. Even the test does not work. Anyway for the time being I'll just use 'Voice Attack'.
What I'm interested in now is when looking at a target in attack scope, is there a way to bring up the 'Recognition Manual' to ID the target (ie a button press or a command) ?
I also checked out the link you mentioned for 'OPEN HORIZONS II v2.5.
Looks interesting, and I downloaded it but not tried to install it yet. I don't know enough about what the mod actually does except for extending the career. A wee bit more in-depth info would be helpful (if possible) ?

Hello THEBERSTER,
Could you be of help ? I'm wanting to re-bind the key for 'Rudder Amidships'.
I know the keyboard shortcut is 'NumPad 0' but this requires 'NumLock' to be on when using it in 'Voice Attack'. What I'd like is for to re-bind 'NumPad 0' to say the 'P' key.
I've messed about with 'SH Keymapper' and it just ends up corrupting a lot of other keys.

Hello Peter (THEBERBSTER),
Now that I almost have things working as I want, There are a couple of points that I could do with some clarification on.
1. Some times I'm getting on the horizon corrupt graphics like great clouds of smoke which disappear when moving my view about. Do you know if this is linked to the game, or video card settings (ie. Nvidia GPU Settings) or is La'rge Address Aware something that would be needed. ?
2. Are Wolves Of Steel' & 'Open Horizons II' two separate gameplay campaign mods and installed only one or the other ?
I would be obliged if you could give me some sort of mods list for either of them & any other mods you would recommend. Also a JSGME load order.
If there is somewhere else I should be asking these things just let me know.
If I have a problem your page is the first place I look. Very useful and great as usual. This oldie (but young at heart) very much appreciates it.

Hi Lachie
Always nice to have a real name.
1. Some times I'm getting on the horizon corrupt graphics like great clouds of smoke which disappear when moving my view about. It is a problem that happens to all of us at one time or another.
I do not have a technical answer to it I am afraid.
Address Aware something that would be needed. ?
No I do not thinks so as SH5 has a maximum 60 fps so it would not make any difference.
If you have a low spec system and fps is a problem then you can use the Antilag application which allows you to set the fps.
2. Are Wolves Of Steel' & 'Open Horizons II' two separate gameplay campaign mods and installed only one or the other ? TWOS is just a name created by vdr1981 for his mega mod.
Within it are a collection of mods totalling over 100.
OHII is a campaign mod with extras and is the foundation of all the SH5 mega mods.
I would be obliged if you could give me some sort of mods list for either of them All the mods in TWOS can be found in the last folder in your main game folder.

Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
Couple of quick questions then I'm good to go.
1. I see from the link for 'The Wolves of Steel JSGME Mods List' that you are using 'Chart Colour Scheme 3'. I assume it is part of a mod. Could you tell me which one ?
2. I'm interested in using 'TWoS Encrypted BdU Orders' but is there anything I need to do before I can use this in-game ? Also would I need anything else to be able to decrypt the orders ? I just can't find enough info on usage.

Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
Do you know if 'The Wolves of Steel' changes the 'Gameplay (Realism)Settings' as I set them ?
I saved the settings to my liking, then started a new Campaign. I then done the 1st Mission (Poland) and had to quit game.
Fired it up today and upon loading I see that the stock 'Gameplay Settings'
are as they were when the game was first run. Do you know what could have changed the settings ? or is it something I'm missing ?
I had a look at your 'Info & Tutorial Page post #12, but I don't know if it's relevant ?
Also on the modding side of things, do you know where the sub hull strength info is stored ? I'm starting to look at maybe doing some tinkering.

Hi Lachie
Do you know what could have changed the settings ? Yes
When you make game play setting changes there are 2 things you need to do.
1. Make a game save.
2. Load the new game save.
With TWOs you have to make a game save in the bunker before starting a new mission.
And you load that game save to start your mission.
This gives you an ideal opportunity to make any game play changes.
Peter
Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
Thanks for your help on my previous issue.
What I seem to be missing is the Target Lock function which was in the stock game. Has that been done away with in TWoS ?
I was also looking at 'Church's SHV Keyboard Commands' mod to see if it was in that mod, but that doesn't seem to have a key for it either.
Is there a way to get it back while using TWoS ?

Hi Lachie
I'm sorry but I do not recommend mod lists for SH5 as you will spend more time fixing your game than playing it.
Your list contains some mods where you must only choose 1.
You are also missing some essential mods as well.
You are also missing base mods where you have selected the optional ones that go with them.
You are also using mods which I do not know anything about.
For Mod order check out sobers mega mod as this will give you a good idea how to lay out a mod list.
I recommend you use one of the tried and tested mega mods.
Peter
Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
I'm not planning using those mods as they are in the list. I was just trying to get a feel for what's good and what's not. I know there are essential mods & base mods missing. I've got a rough idea as to what I'm going to actually use. It was to get a rough idea as to what type of mod should come before others in load order. I will finish my tinkering & get into the game at last.
All I'm going to do now is try to change my 'Avatar'.
Once again I much appreciate your time.

In the bunker in Memel did you make a manual game save and load it before starting the Baltic Operation?
What date and stopwatch GMT time is showing in Kiel?
You can see the U-Boat icon in Kiel?

What U-Boat icon ? The icon that shows where your base is.
In the picture you can see the icon in Kiel.
Using the map you will always know where your base is at anytime.
https://s26.postimg.org/ecankghd5/Skagaraat_Outbound_with_Harbour_Pilot.png
Nautical time and GMT time are different in the Baltic Operation by 1 hour.
At 00.00 nautical time on 4th September the next mission will appear on the map.
You cannot end the Baltic Operation until stopwatch/GMT time is at 00.00 on 4th September.
This is not a problem if you change nautical time to GMT and then it is synced to the stopwatch.

Hi Lachie
1. I meant to ask about the Campaign Fix & Tonnage Bar in your post #188.
Is that info still relevant today to be able to continue in stock game ? Yes, if you buy the game today you will be buying a corrupted game that does not work properly.
This is why you need to use a mega mod that removes part of the problem with the tonnage bar and campaign icons.
The mega mods do not however sort out the problem with moving from campaign to campaign without using a fix.
The game launcher is responsible for all these problems when Ubisoft transferred the workings to Uplay over 2 years ago.
The only solution to all the problems where everything works as it should do is to remove the game launcher from the game.
2. Also I noticed in your post #171 a link at bottom of the page 'How To Replace a Faulty SH5 Game Launcher' which takes you to another link to download a Game Launcher in a post by SJFERGY18. This launcher seemingly allows you to install Uplay game launcher anywhere on system.
Is there any relevance in the use of this ? Yes, having a genuine independant game launcher that is not automatically installed in the Program Files (x86) directory is less likely to be problamatic, the reason being that the directory has control and does not like changes being made to it.
Peter
Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
I take your points in both answers.
So it's impossible to get rid of the launcher & be able to play without it ?

Hi Lachie
Post #22 work around relates to the Open Horizons v2.5 campaign mod being enabled in JSGME (All mega mods use this).
Post#188 MaMa's Fix 2 and alternative Fix 1 may work for the stock game?
In the stock game you have the tonnage bar and campaign icons (Removed from all mega mods).
If these are working correctly then there is a good chance that the campaign progression will also work.
Personally I would try this.
1 hour before the campaign is due to end make a manual game save and exit to the main menu.
Load the game save and see if your campaign successfully ends.
If it does not then you will need to use "silentotto" (Tutorial available)

Hi Peter (THEBERBSTER),
My grandson wants me to get him more torps (cheating I know), but I don't know how.
Have you any info on how I can get extra torps ? If it is editing files , then which files. Any info would help me. Anything for a quiet life.
Regards Lachie(lowbow).

How To Use Speech Recognition MiTons NewUI Editon v0.4.1 English In SH5
This Application for Silent Hunter 5 allows you to give orders to your crew when you connect a Microphone to your game.
Full Documentation includes a set of recognized Commands documented as a Reference Card is a useful addition in looking how the Command Structure works.
The Command Structure for this Application is based on the orders within the Officers Icons which can be seen at the bottom of your screen.
When giving orders you should be precise with your phrasing as the Speech Engine may misinterpret your orders.
Saying 2 zero zero, as individual digits is much better understood than saying 200 as the Speech Engine seems to handle single digits better.
The Speech Engine has a particular difficulty understanding the 2 digit.
Picture 1 > The Application can be downloaded here or from my Tutorials.

How To Use Fat Torpedoes In Silent Hunter 5
Set up the usual torpedo parameters on the TDC screen (running depth, pistol type etc;
Picture 1. Toggle Fat/LuT mode.
https://s14.postimg.cc/sjl30q9yp/SH5_Fat_Torpedo_Gauges.jpg
1 > Click the small button labelled 'FaT' above the torpedo indicator light.
2 > Set the Straight run length -- how long the torpedo will travel in a straight line before entering the ladder pattern.
3 > Set the 2nd gyro angle -- the orientation of the pattern (either 90° starboard or 90° port).
4 > Set the leg -- the length of each leg of the ladder (either 800 m or 1800 m).
5 > Click the 'FaT' button again to switch back to the other torpedo settings.
Tips for effective use:
Use against convoys.
Fire from abeam (i.e., perpendicular to the course of the target) since the 2nd gyro angle can only be a right angle.
Aim to hit the target during the initial straight run.

How Too Add Your Captains Name And U-Boat Number To Your Game.
This is changed in TDW’s Option File Editor Viewer (OFEV).
If you are using TWOS and the optional KSDCommander then KSDC will allocate you a U-Boat number that you can use and will appear in your game and in KSDC.
If you are using TWOS or a TDW NewUi 7-4-2 or 7-5-0 version this can be done from the main game folder\data\Applications or from outside if you have a standalone OFEV installed.

If you are using TWOS disable all the mods.
If you are using a Mod list in then disable the mods 7-4-2 or 7-5-0 accordingly.

Enigma Machine Code Breaking When You Do Not Have The Time.
So you want to know what your Enigma Code Message says but you cannot spare the time to get your Enigma Machine out and start decoding the Message.
All messages can be found reasonably easy.
Messages are held in their various Campaigns > Total Germany > Happy Times and so on.
In Total Germany like all BDU Messages these can be found in the Missions folder.
Campaign > Total Germany Missions.
BCW > British Coastal Waters > Coastal Waters.
BOG > Blockade of Germany > North Western Approaches.
BS > British Supplies > South Western Approaches.
OW > Operation Wessetbüng.
LOP > BDU message only.
You will be able to recognize special missions as these only appear once and are Named having no Patrol numbers showing.
You may need to open each TSR file until you find the one showing the Kriegsmarine grid number.
All the information needed is in the TSR files.
In this Tutorial I am going to be looking for Grid Reference > AM3468 in BoG > Blockade of Germany > North Western Approaches.
I also have the first set of four coded digits VGCY.

To access these files when the game is running first > Pause Game.
Use the Windows Key showing it’s picture on the left side, bottom row of your keyboard, may also show a padlock.
You will now see the desk top.
You can now safely search for the file needed by carefully opening and closing the files.
When finished Exit all files and press the icon showing in the Taskbar to go back to the Paused Game.
If you can find the time then you might find this useful.

Regarding post #57, the four bearing tutorial. Please delete this if it's not appropriate to ask here.
The in-game four bearing tutorial text says the course of the ship is 206. I keep coming up with a course of about 198 after the third bearing reading. The true bearing for the contact in order are 56, 61, and 68 according to the tutorial text. I've gone through and done the map work twice and get the same result.
Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I did zoom in when drawing lines to get it as accurate as I could. I've done it enough that I get the concept and what I should be doing but I question it since I get a different result....

The in-game four bearing tutorial text says the course of the ship is 206. Target's course is 151 AFAIK from the tutorial.
56, 61, and 68 68 will depend on where and how far you moved your boat too, as will be the distance to you take up to shoot at the target will be different between players IIRC.
Long time since I did this tutorial.
The tutorial is taken from Trevally's words and diagrams not from me.

The first three bearings are while not moving and I'm just using the numbers that the script is saying to use. Interesting that the target course of 151 and what I get, 198/9, is 360. I wonder if I'm reading the wrong side of the compass, lol.
Thanks for the input and I'll check to see if I may be reading something wrong. I've yet to play the game. Got it last week and I've just been watching videos about it.

Hi b
Don't forget to get a true bearing which is essential you have to take your own course bearing into account as well.
That is why each time you do the tutorial the last bearing is likely to be different because you have moved the boat.

Do not know if it is compatible with TWOS you would have to test and see.

Keyboard Changes Needed In The Options File Editor Viewer (OFEV) with Church's SHV 1.01 Keyboard Commands 1.1 Mod
Please note that TWOS has a few different settings to the Stock Keyboard.
Church’s and Stormy’s are AFAIK identical.
If you wish to change your Stock keyboard to one that can give you a Hydrophone bearing by pressing the Z key then you may wish to change your keyboard layout.
Church's SHV 1.01 Keyboard Commands 1.1
Abbreviated to > CKC.
One other major change over the other keyboards is the W-A-S-D keys are replaced with the arrow keys as is used in the moving around the Maps.
This mod should always be last in JSGME and not be overwritten unless the Real Navigation Mod is enabled.
Keyboard Key Information.
C > Default > Compass and Rudder.
C > CKC > Crash Dive.
Z > Default > Silent Running.
Z > CKC > Nearest Contact.
This has to be accessed from the Compass Bar and no key commands can be set for this in the OFEV.
Changes need to be made in the OFEV for the following.
Radio Messages > Change from I to F.
Teleporting Bar > Change to T to Y unless used for Decoys in TWOS .
Torpedo Load > Needs a key?
Radio > CKC uses T.
Message Box > Needs a Key?
M Key > Map > CKC uses > F3.
Z Key > Silent Running > CKC uses > Chief Engineer Icon > Not F8 as shown in picture.
Remove Navigation Marks > Change to Shift + S.
Shift + X > CKC uses > Follow Warship.

A Pictorial Step By Step Guide Through The Wolves Of Steel (TWOS) Installer
Preface
Vecko must be commended for making the installation of his Mega Mod very easy to install players must not forget that there is more to do in the installed documents.
Various PDF instructions must be taken note off for the game not only to be installed fully and correctly but launching the game, setting up your Career, Bunker saves and more all need to be done in a certain way.
Many of the problems posted on the TWOS thread are because players have not bothered to look at the PDF instructions.
Pictures 27,28,29, will draw your attention to these important instructions.
It should be noted that TWOS is 100% reliable even though it has over 100 mods and patches.
Problems occurring after you have installed will undoubtedly be down to something that you have not followed through correctly.
One of the most common mistakes is not updating your game to v1.2 after the initial install.
If you are a culprit of this go to the Support, Gameupdater folder and click on the GU application.

Automation! > What Is It? > How Does It Work? > Let’s Check It Out.
Opening up Automation Let's see what the Scripts do in the game.
Are you missing out on a useful set of Tools?
So should you be using Automated Scripts?
This Tutorial will show you how the Automated Scripts are setup in Automation.
Automation to put it simply is a collection of Scripts that have been compiled into different categories to be used as helpful tools depending either on the situation you are currently in or how you wish to use them.
Most are straight forward and others will have a message when you hover your mouse over the Script.
Some are more sophisticated than others as you will see from the titles.
The Automation Panel is broken down into different columns with each column having a heading title.
The Arrows <- -> work in a conventional way.
1 Arrow -> will only move 1 Script.
2 Arrows -> -> will move Multiple Scripts.
This Tutorial will give you a basic guide how Automation works leaving you to discover and investigate how the different Scripts work when they are enabled.
How useful these are I will leave it to you to decide.

To setup the other 3 Hotkeys these have to be pre-set from TDW’s Options File Editor Viewer (OFEV)
I have covered this in Tutorial Post #439.

Picture 17 > Shows the 4 Hotkey Automation Patches in the OFEV.
You can see that only the 1st Automation Key has been Setup.
It is advisable always to use a Shift Key with each pre-set letter being used.
Most Keyboard letters will have already have been Sertup on the Keyboard.
This will depend on which Keyboard you are using > Stock > TWOS > Church’s > Stormy’s.
Pressing F1 on the Keyboard only shows some of the allocated pre-set keys.
Other Keys not showing on the F1 Help screen are hidden and not named on the Keys but some will have been allocated as you will see if you start pressing them when the game is running.
Some will work when the boat is surfaced and others when submerged.

How To Set Up The OFEV Automation Hotkeys.
This Tutorial will show you how to assign Hotkeys to Automation.
Once this has been done you can allocate different Automation Scripts to the 4 Hotkeys.
You can change a Script to any Hotkey as you wish.
If you are using your own mod list you will need to Disable the Main NewUi mod 7-4-2- or 7-5-0 first.
Picture 1 > Open the OFEV and select the Automation Tab.
https://s8.postimg.cc/f8q5c6tqd/image.jpg
Picture 2 > This shows you how Automation key is setup and looks like.
https://s8.postimg.cc/k7dnqrn9h/image.jpg
Picture 3 > Pressing Key will show the current hotkey being used if any.shows the X key you saw in the Automation Tutorial.

Picture 6 > I have added Shift to the Hotkey and used W as an example.
I recommend you always use a Shift Key so it is always independent of your U-Boat Command Keys.

Picture 7 > In this picture you can see that Shift is now True so Shift + W now works for Hotkey 1 instead of X.

These procedures from Pictures 20 to 24 need to be done each time the Game is Started when you want to use a Microphone to give orders.
If you disable the Application you will need to follow the procedures from Picture 9 when Enabled again.
I will say.. when it comes to basic commands for navigation etc .. I use this for the rest I Click .. and yep it is installed correctlly

Auto TDC Tutorial Attacking An Escorted Convoy > Pictorial
My WO has suddenly told me there is a ship off my port bow long range.
Picture 1 > I have measured the distance to be 4,000 meters.
I can see this warship is quite fast around 10 or 11 knots.
I am at around 90 degrees to this warship and I am too close to him to close the distance without being seen so I need to make a flanking movement.
https://i.postimg.cc/CLzMcHTZ/1_Distance_to_contact.jpg
Picture 2 > I have scrolled the map out so I can find the warships course 102 degrees.
https://i.postimg.cc/MG8WZCcR/2_Contacts_course.jpg
Picture 3 > I need to change my speed from Slow Ahead and also change course to run parallel with the warship.
https://i.postimg.cc/KjKXDfkx/3_Alter_speed.jpg
Picture 4 > Speed increased to Ahead Flank and my course altered to 102 to run parallel.
https://i.postimg.cc/wjFpH1pK/4_Ahead_Flank.jpg
Picture 5 > Deleted
Picture 6 > The X mark was where I last saw the warship.
I have a 4 or 5 knots advantage so my course can be changed a few degrees to 100 in the mean time I want to set up an attack position.
Notice there are only 2 course lines under 700 meters apart.
https://i.postimg.cc/g0Y2H9Yp/6_Lost_contact.jpg
Picture 7 > I have setup an attack position.
Notice this is 63km from where I first spotted the warship.
There is no guarantee at this distance that the warship will still be on the course line I drew out as wind speed and wind direction at this distance is likely to pull him off course even if he maintains the original 102 course.

Picture 8 > I am at All Stop and gliding into my attack position.
I do not want to be to close as I do not want to be picked up on his asdic.
With Auto TDC you can still hit targets even at 5,000 meters distance.
https://i.postimg.cc/Y9T43Xnx/8_all_stop.jpg
Picture 9 > Now at periscope depth I have set the crew to Battle Stations and have ordered Silent Running.
I waited while surfaced for the ships to come into view and then drew out the 2 course lines.
I should hopefully be able to setup a multiple attack on these 2 course lines.

Very important to make sure the tube doors are open otherwise you will miss the target

Picture 12 > I am setting the 4 torpedoes depth.
I know there are 2 Troopships/AMC’s which will have a decent draft.
I will fire 2 torpedoes at each target, each one with a different depth.
I am only carrying G7a torpedoes, the electric G7e torpedoes I replaced with the G7a.
Torpedo depths > 2 at 3.4 and 2 at 3.7 meters.
The wind speed was 10 so they should not run too deep.

Picture 13 > The target locked is a Small Replenishment Ship as showing on the TAI map.
Must be new from TWoS as I have never seen one of these before in SH5.
Break/Lock is a setting in TDW’s Options File Editor Viewer (OFEV) that shows that the target is locked.
https://i.postimg.cc/SKytSdGV/13_Break_lock.jpg

Auto TDC has calculated this is where the torpedo needs to impact to hit the target.
https://i.postimg.cc/RZPb0fbB/20_Torpedo_will_hit.jpg
Picture 21 > All 4 torpedoes are now away.
2 torpedoes were re-set to slow for the nearest Troop Transport.
2 torpedoes set to fast for the the other Troop Transport furthest away.
As is often the case the torpedoes have been spotted and all the ships are trying to take evasive action.
https://i.postimg.cc/tJHBcz7h/21_All_torps_away.jpg
Picture 22 > 1 hit and 3 misses.
The other 3 torpedoes would have hit the 2 targets which were extremely lucky and it was undoubtedly their speed which saved them.
As they say some you win and some you lose.
I am using a mod where 1 torpedo will sink any size ship but I always fire 2 in case 1 is a dud.

How To Change Game Play Settings At Sea When On Patrol
This Tutorial will show you how you can make various changes as and when you want to while in a Mission/Patrol and not in the Bunker.
You can make one or any number of changes as long as each file shows the same changes have been made.
The Tutorial is structured so all the changes follow a logical sequence from first to last so there is less chance of confusion taking place.
This is your starting point > Go to > C:> Documents > SH5 > data > cfg > you must be able to see this path in the main menu to be able to make any changes.
Please take careful note of the paths as you move through each of the 8 changes needed to complete the processes, many of the files have the same names and identical structure, but are in different places.
Tutorial 1 > Pictorial Procedures
Picture 1 > Open > cfg > SaveGames File folder.

How To Use The Ship’s Journal In Silent Hunter 5
This tutorial will show you how to place Supermarks on the Map and add text entries directly to the Ship’s Journal (SJ)

Uplay Download Version Fix For SH5 And TWoS
Uplay have recently updated SH5 meaning the game will no longer support games that have been modded.
This hidden tutorial has been made available to those who have posted this problem on the Subsim forum and has been sent to you as a PM.
Important
Your game should not be installed in the Program Files (x86) restricted directory.
If this is so then I would suggest that you uninstall and re-install again, use a registry cleaner before re-booting your system.
You may have found that you cannot patch the Generic File Patcher (GFP) which this fix will now sort out.
Here is my Dvd SH5.exe which works with the Uplay download version.
Download
http://www.mediafire.com/file/s65f2i...5.exe.zip/file (http://www.mediafire.com/file/s65f2in731wftqk/DVD_SH5.exe.zip/file)
Instructions.
Cut and paste the current SH5.exe to a convenient place.
Download the zip file into your SH5 game folder.
Unzip the file and use the Extract Tab.
Cut and paste the zip file to a convenient place, this is now your backup.
Check that the new SH5.exe is set to run as an administrator.
If you have previously restored the gps snapshot file (TWoS players) then you need to, ”Disable all patches” first even if you can see 9 patches.
Now close the GFP.
Open the GFP again and patch the files to the new SH5.exe and you should see 9 patches.
TWoS users only.
Restore the gps snapshot file.
All.
Close the GFP.
You should now be able to start the game.
Picture > I recommend this change to untick the synchronization.

Peter
Hi Peter,
Thx. Very much along the line of my solution. Still a shame that I cannot sunchronize with the cloud since I play the game on my desktop as well as on my laptop.
regards,
Marc

When the installation has completed it is important that the game is updated to the latest version v1.2.0 before running the game.
Go to the ‘Ubisoft Folder.’
Go to the main ‘Silent Hunter 5 Folder.’
Picture 1 shows the Sh5.exe application v1.0.5.0 as installed.

How To Send Radio Reports

Hullo TheBerbster,
You may be able to help me with this? I ask my Radio operator to send a patrol report, which he does, then BDU sends me a message. Which is grand of them to do. However, it stays fixed in the center of my screen, and no amount of keys, pressing escape, clicking any and every single icon on the screen seems to close the message. It just stays in the center of my screen. Any ideas as to what I may be missing? Granted - it's probably a painfully simple key command or something, but I'm ignorant of it at the moment.
Thanks!
THEBERBSTER

Hi JD
Are you playing a modded game or TWoS?
BDU radio messages has an X in the top right corner to close the message page.
Orders to Officers also has an X to exit order screen.
If you cannot sort out if it is TWoS you are playing make a post here.

sh5.exe genericpatcher to work with steam.
2.
Download & Install: http://filehippo.com/download_universal_extractor/tech/
3.
Right click on the "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu.exe" you downloaded in step 1. choose "UniExtract to Subdir", choose "isxunpack extraction" under "Extract Method".
4.
Step 3 should have resulted in a folder called "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu"
5.
Download & Install the "InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer"
http://www.mediafire.com/download/b527nf6771b2u4j/InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/download/b527nf6771b2u4j/InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer.rar)
6.
Start program and go to File => Open => "silent_hunter_5_col_1.02_eu\Disk1\data1.hdr"
6. Alternative steps by kajonas
This method works beautifully. It uses the Install Shield Cabinet File Viewer
iscab.exe command line utility as an alternative to the iscabvu.exe file extraction method (assumed above).
Assume an initial directory structure as follows:
%Downloads%\InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer
%Downloads%\silent_hunter_5_1.02_eu
(where %Downloads% can be anything, any path)
CD to your "silent_hunter_5_1.02_eu\Disk1" directory
Run this command
=============
..\..\InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer\iscab data1.cab -i"allmyfiles.ini" -lx
Make a copy of allmyfiles.ini --> allmyfiles_edit.ini
delete everything in this file except for the following:
Product=ISCAB
Version=2.0
[Game]
File40="sh5.exe"
Run this command
===========
..\..\InstallShield_Cabinet_File_Viewer\iscab data1.cab -i"allmyfiles_edit.ini" -x
You should find the file sh5.exe extracted in the current directory
Done.
7.
View => Components

TIP
If you shade this information and then copy and paste it to your PC Notepad you can then edit it.
Hi Peter
I do all of this just before running a previous saved game in Wilhemshaven base. Then I request and start a new mission. All is fine until the first autosaved game. Just then I get CTD. If I try to save game manually is the same. I think there is something that not let play pathed sh5.exe. Is there any other alternative?
Another question: Where could I see the secondary objectives when start a new mission?

It's part of TDW' Multiple UIs Mod. SH3 style.

Howdy all NUB here ....
I fire all 4 tubes or a salvo (what a thrill when they all hit)
Tube one starts loading and it takes FOREVER
and I cannot figure-out how to get 2,3,4 to start ....
2 seems to start after one is fired but again a Snail runs faster!
There has to be a better way to reload .... TY

Hmm... do you have "realistic reload" selected in options? If yes, turn it off, this should help. If it doesn't it might be result of some mod conflict but you'd have to post your modlist to find it.
As for 2,3,4 - crew can only reload one torpedo at a time, so they will start other tubes when they finish currently reloading one.

the only realistic solution to the tedious reload problem on all XII & IX Uboats: approx 1 hour(when not on silent run) was to get promoted to a type XXI Uboat with hydraulic reloading of 6 forward tubes!:yeah: I thought someone was developing a XXI mod for SHV?

GrenSo made a beautiful XXI model but he never finished importing it into game, plus it wasn't meant to be a playable boat anyway but just an AI ship.

The Berbster coming through again making it easy to clear up the water in my WOS install. Thanks so much for your compilations, and thanks to all the modders at sub sim for making these games so much better.
Edit: Hey, after over a decade I'm not a nub avatar any more. xD

Clearer Water Visibility Options
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2267185&postcount=170
TheBerbster's thread correctly explains that you can use the JSGME to install:
DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (medium)
Or
DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high)
Along with (Optionally)
DynEnv v2.9 - 7. Clear Water Surface.
However, there is a known problem with "DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high)". The underwater particles will bug out and produce white squares making underwater a zero vis, glitched out, hell space. To fix this you need the patch "DynEnv v2.9 - No Underwater Impurity Patch". According to Gap, it should be loaded right after whichever Enhanced Visibility option you choose. It is not required for "medium" but it is required for "high". To summarize. At the end of your TWOS mod list you should add these mods (in this order) for clearer water:
1. DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (medium) (Impurity patch optional)
OR (Not both)
1. DynEnv v2.9 - 3.b Enhanced Visibility (high) (Impurity patch mandatory)
2. DynEnv v2.9 - No Underwater Impurity Patch (If required or desired)
3. DynEnv v2.9 - 7. Clear Water Surface (Entirely Optional)
Dynamic Environment is already a part of TWOS. "TWOS Env Settings - Brighter Nights" shares no files in common with these sub mods so the load order there does not seem to be an issue if you want that sub mod included with TWOS installed as well. (correct me if I'm wrong). Here is a link to the Dynamic Environment download where you can find the Impurity Patch link near the bottom, in Orange text at the time of this post. Make any other changes at your own risk.

Black Rectangles Showing On The Menu Screen

If your problem showing is similar to the picture above the most likely cause is an error you have made when installing TDW’s Generic File Patcher to its correct installation location > C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5
Take a look at this tutorial from page 2 of my SH5 tutorial thread
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2185189&postcount=23
I had this problem with TWoS and have spent a few hours trying to find solution. It was nothing to do with TDW’s Generic File Patcher. Even vice versa. The bug appeared only with the properly patched by TDW’s Generic File Patcher game.
It was a wrong value "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ubisoft\Si lent Hunter 5\GameUpdate\installdir" in the Windows registry and TWD*.py scripts with GetSH5InstallPath function did not work properly.

Hi all.I would like to get some tips about target shadowing and following it by visuals and smoke.I have map ocntacts off and its annoying because i dont know what to do,usually i try to estimate the course by asking the watch officer about its range and bearing and wait a few minutes and ask again then plot the course but the course is unreliable and i cant intrecept the target

All assuming that all you can see is smoke and there's no visual of the target vessel.
It'll always be an estimation based on smoke on the horizon (meaning visual tracking) and what you are doing already is going to be the main action to get your some reference to measure against.
Yep, it's not easy. Depending on weather and visual clarity, judging whether that smoke is dropping over the horizon or not is the first judgement to make. This will take some time. If you can work out that, then next will be to work on your speed matching. Using 6kn as a starting point determine if you seem to overtaking or not.
Actually, it'll end being a combination of rudder changes (use the rudder interface to make direction changes) and speed changes (use the speed scale and not engine settings).
If you can maintain visual on their smoke (height above the horizon), then you are shadowing ..... and then you can plan your next steps, such as planning an ambush.
Under water, there are techniques to shadow also using sonar and these are more busy, takes more time to learn and really give you a sense of just how capable these navigators and boat captains were.

i have been patrolling in the north Atlantic for several weeks now and the weather is not what it ought to be. from my understanding the climate is turbulent in the north Atlantic. i get 0 wind and no clouds for days at a time, this can't be realistic.
is this just the way the game is? i read Darkwraith's comment on the subject I think he said that it was just too involved to make the weather more dynamic.
