Back on my old XP desktop computer I used to play it all the time.
Now on Win7 OS it won't run.
Are there any thread letting me know how to get past this hurdle with a laptop running Windows 7? I looked but couldn't find anything.

Are you running it from a disc or from a digital download? :hmmm:

I have the disk from the original version when it first came out.

Okay....I have a digital download version that I got online because supposedly it was released for free when the company went out of business.
Have you tried just copying all the files on the disc to the hard drive and running it?

OUT OF BUSSINESS!!!:o:o:huh::huh:
No I have not. A couple of questions before I try that:
> Is it just a disc issue?
> Where would it be best to copy the files to?
>How would I start it up from the downloaded files?
I am at work right now but will try this when I get home.
Thanks ahead for any help.

I've found that with certain older games the disc won't run the setup but if you just copy all the disc's files to a folder on...say the desktop...it'll go just fine.
There should be a file along the lines of Setup or Autorun.
Just run that. Try it when you get home and let me know.

Tried that but I get the same thing I got when I tried to load the game up normally:
"You must reboot the computer to complete the installation of the enigma rising tide protection drivers."
I have done that several times but it keeps sending me back to the same screen.

Can I buy another version of the game that doesn't have this?
Thought I saw a post about it somewhere.

Here's a thought. Can I do a restore point, pull starforce out of the files I copied onto my desktop and reinstall?

Sorry if I'm slamming you with questions but my son and I love playing these games and for the time being this is the only one that lets us do ships.
He likes the bigger ships but I like going in with destroyers for torpedo attacks.

It is possible to update Starforce for Win7, but in order for a particular game to work, the developer/publisher have to update the game as well. Given what happened with Tesseraction, that is impossible, so you have to go the DRM-free route on Win7.

I am trying to register on this site to download the file but it keeps asking me to answer some stupid question about the best internet service in Australia. No matter what I put in the box it keeps telling me I have given an invalid answer to the question.

I'm not exactly sure...AFAIK it's the only place where you can get it. If needed I can see about uploading it....

I can't believe that this game is so hard to find online.
I have been looking for the last hour on weblinks and so far the only thing I keep getting are bogus web links that want you to download all kinds of spamware sites. Yeah they'll give you the game as long as they can load a bunch of crap into your computer thru an .exe file.

Most of the download sites are for patches and mods.

My son and I used to love to play this game not for how realistic it is but because it's just plain FUN!! :yeah::yeah:
Not a lot of thought process just kick-ass fun.
The ships look really good. My son's favorite are the PT boats. He loves zig zagging in to attack the targets. For me it's the destroyers. The work horse of the navies. They are the coolest looking ships in this game IMO. I love watching them in a full speed hard over turn trying to avoid a torpedo attack or when they do their own attack with torpedo tubes. Nothing cooler than lining up an attack and watching those babies shoot out of the tubes and hit the water.
The controls are just arcade enough to make the game fun without having to go thru a lot of realistic steps to achieve a goal.
We used to play it on a 21" NEC monitor I bought a hundred years ago back when I had my desktop with XP.
Now that it's playable on my my win7 laptop we can't wait to hook it up using the HDMI cord to the 52" flat screen in the living room.
You can pretty much kiss that Saturday afternoon goodbye.
Oh well looks like I'll be in the doghouse again.

has anybody tried burning the new download using the img-burn program that the editor is suggesting you use in the article neal posted the link for?
First my McAfee is telling me that it could have malicious files in them.
Then when I tried to install the Img-burn.exe file I get a install window that is trying to load up something called "speed up my computer".
Doesn't sound like an image burn program to me.
Is there another program that I can use that doesn't want to load a bunch of spam junk onto my system?

Daemon Tools is supposed to be a good one. I have no experience with .iso files so I cannot help you with this one. All I know is that Daemon is a good one. :hmmm:

Got it working!
Here's what I did instead of using the img_burn. I'm just not taking any chances with getting spam crap on my computer.
As long as you have a CD or DVD burner on your computer windows has a generic burner.
you go to windows start menu at the bottom right corner move over to the list of shortcuts on the right and go to computer which shows you your drives..find the .iso file on the C:/ drive and double click it. Instead of opening it window starts up its own very simple burn tool.
this was done in minutes and I was up and playing. :know:

I have a question regarding display for the game.
Has this always been a 4:3 resolution format?
When I used to play it was on an older 21" NEC monitor.
But the menu windows and the play window are opening in a 4:3 format no matter how high I set the resolution.
Is there a way to do this game on 16:9?

Anyone know why the Q & A keys don't work on the new E:RT version to zoom in and out on free view?
They work fine for periscope, binocular and gun turret views to zoom in and out but when I am doing free view and wanting to look around the outside of my ships I can't zoom out away from it to get a better expanded view.
This is especially annoying on the destroyer because the default view is so close you can't even see the entire ship.
