Alright, I had an odd issue last night. As stated in a prior post, I had managed to sneak into Scapa and sink some serious tonnage, but my save did not work out. Due to that, I did it again last night, resuming from the save prior to going into Scapa. Luckily, both BBs were there and I crept in and got into position. I fired a single G7e set to impact at 5m to the Hood between the front two cannons in hopes of blowing it up for the THIRD time.

After a while no boom, so I go to external, frustrated, and when I get to the hood I hear my torpedo. The stupid thing slammed into the side of the hood, did not detonate, and was on the surface floating but making the electric motor sound! I watch it for about a minute, then it turns off, starts sinking, and goes down through the ocean floor where my camera cannot go.

What the HECK was that!? It's like the eel was kissing the side of the BB until its battery died, then it just sunk. Needless to say I got pissed because the DDs are on the way due to the crew of the Hood watching the torpedo float around the side of their massive ship, so I hit ALT+F4 and went to bed. I may try again tonight, but I may go back to something else. getting frustrated sneaking into Scapa nightly due to corrupted saves or stupid torpedoes...

Game saves are seriously flawed, always have been. Ubisoft decided to just leave it that way. Here's some rules about game saves I d'loaded from SubSim a long time ago:

Always save when surfaced.
Always save when in control room, F2, view.
Always save at least 50km off shore.
Always give the game a little time at TCx1 after being on high TC before you save.
Never save with any known contacts, go some 50km away from your last sinking.
If the first save works, do not over write it. Make a new one which you may over write.
If two convoys spawn close to your U-boat at about the same time, then any game save made afterwards, wherever saved, will be corrupt.
Any game-save made after a convoy has spawned with Sergbuto's AI U-boats attached, will also be corrupt.
Give the game a little time before you exit, just a couple of seconds of your time...
Before saving, dive, turn your engines off, go to the hydrophones station, turn up the ambience volume knob and listen. If you hear a ship, don't save. Also, don't save if you're less than 50km away from land.
The sound of broken glass at loading is the game setting your damage status from your last save point. Even if you have 99% hull integrity you will hear glass breaking. Is normal.

There's also something in the GWX documenttion about saving too close to harbors causing ships to crash and burn or very similar.

I never save submerged or in combat. I might forget what I was doing when I reload! I also make incremental saves and rarely if ever do I overwrite a save. I always save on normal time compression and I rarely save with contacts around.

As for the 50km from land, never heard that. I save where I can without having enemies near and if that means off the coast I have done it. Never had an issue. I have saved numerous times near ships and never had an issue though. I even saved with a convoy nearby on multiple occasions.

In fact, since I bought the game when it came out (yay, I have Starforce on my DVD!) I have not once experienced a corrupted save. I am assuming this corruption is due to me modding the game for the first time ever with GWX. I do not care, but I am pissed at the "ship-friendly" eel. Hell if I had known it would not blow up I would have LOVED to ride it like a jet-ski!

Whaaaaaat!? :wah:
So, what do you do if two convoys spawn close to your U-boat about the same time? Reload!?

Play it out and return to port. Just to clarify, I didin't make up any of those bullet points about game saves that I posted earlier, they are what I read that others here posted. Personally, I adhere to the 50km rules about land, harbors and ships I have sunk, beyond that it's anything I can hear on the phones and not see visually and finally only while surfaced in the command room. Your personal mileage may vary.

I didn't knew these 2. Thanks.

So did The Commander of U-56,Oblt. Wilhelm Zahn, who fired 3 torpedoes to HMS Nelson on 30 Oct 1939. 1 missed and the 2 others were dud's and never exploded. If the torpedoes exploded, it may had changed the history since Churchill was onboard HMS Nelson.
