I guess many of you have a Facebook account and I guess you have ran into a friend who have post a picture of a famous person and with some quotes in the text which this person suppose to have said.

I do know that in 99.9 % of every cases they have never said those things or the quotes have been altered.

Mostly the quotes are from a time when I wasn't born, but a few weeks ago someone posted a picture of Winston Churchill and with quote that I surely knew that he hadn't said.

'cause I knew who have said those words and I remember almost when he said it.

Here's the quote
"Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they don't need it and hell where they already have it"

Just telling you.

Of course anyone can claim anything on the internet, and there is a good chance it will be taken as fact by most people, so much so that it will end up on Wikiquotes or Brainyquotes. If you research the quote and the person you will usually find out whether that person really said it or not. You may not find out who actually said it, because sometimes no on knows. Whenever I quote somebody seriously I try to have the full source available, meaning the speech he said it in or the letter he wrote it in.

Unless you can find a backup source, everything on the internet is suspect.

My memory cound be wrong, I do remember Reagan said those words. I however can't remember if I saw him saying it on the news or if I read it in the newspaper. It is so many years ago now.

This is clearly bunkum. Everyone knows that Steve quotes his own quotes more than anyone else's. - Jimbuna

Obligatory.

No matter what it is, be it quotes, or news, look for multiple reputable sources.

I don't remember saying that, but since I read it on the internet I guess it must be true. :D

Uh oh! Paradox time. Is Steve being truthful and if so does that mean he's lying? Or is he lying and that bit will be truthful.

Aaaaaaggggghhhhh!

I see my work here is done. :sunny:

If you expected an answer, don't hold your breath. There are some questions better left alone. Well, maybe not better, but certainly more fun. :O:
