Hi there, just wondering if I can get some help thanks.
am having problems getting sh3 to run on my pc. have windows xp and a AMD Phenom2 x6 1055T processor, 4g ram, 1Tb HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics card. game is installed but will not load.
sh3 is version 1.4b with seawolves submarines on hunt addon
When I start up sh3 I get a black screen as if it is going to run then it just stops and cuts back to desktop.
have the latest directX installed including 9.0c and no I get no error messages.
Also having the same problem with PT Boats Knights of the sea, both games used to run on my old outdated pc.

Theres a few things to try preferably in this order.
1. Ensure the graphics card has the latest drivers and then try again.
2. Perform clean uninstall, meaning clean registry and delete sh3 folder in my documents. Reinstall stock game only and try again.
3. If it works at this point then its likely your mod is the problem. If not check the graphics settings for your GPU. Set the resolution to 1024 x 768, ensure GPU settings are application defined.
4. When sh3 was released 4gb was unheard of so download the 4gb patch from the download section of this forum.
Thats the best I can do with the info I have and my knowledge. Im hoping someone else may chime in as well.

I'm having a similar issue: Clean install of Sh from disc, and patching up from UBI's site. The disc install starts fine, but the patch causes it to not start at all. Both from the icon and from shoving the disc in to get the start screen.

Note; I just did a factory disc reformat, with the full WIN-XP update up to this point.

I think the issue must be in the WIN-XP updates killing the launch.

Looking at the system processes, there's several instances of SH parked doing nothing, and one eating up 25-35% of cpu time.

Also, while this is going on, it locks up trying to exit to restart (soft boot works) and will not manually stop the processes.

I really think it might be a Win XP SP-3 issue, or the latest upgrades, such as the one that includes "indexing". (whatever the flying fornication I'd need that for).

SH-3 and -4 ran fine before on this system a year or so ago, so that's my only theory.

Anyone friendly with UBI can ask?

You may want to try deleting/relocating the movies in ...\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Movies of your installation path.
