I like Florida. Nice place, filled with old people. In fact, my parents are retiring to Florida.

What do I love about that place?

Miami is the only place where you can eat at a steakhouse, and see an MLB game (with snacks) with good seats for 30$

That means that you do not like America then seeing as something around 70% of Florida residents come from the rest of the US.

Nice to pass judgment on two entire states(or rather the millions of very different people that reside within them) because you dislike certain aspects of them aspects which can be found in any society anywhere(in other words every state).

Sorry it just bugs me when people place judgment on entire states and more importantly the people who reside in them it is very superficial.

I judge people by their actions not by the state they live in.

Florida has no income tax how you like that? Florida also has some of the most lax gun laws in the country I can think of only a few states that are more lax than Florida.

I mean what state makes it illegal to drive with an un-caged bear? Missouri. In Florida I am free to drive down the road with my bear able to move around freely not stuck in some cage. Now that is real freedom.

I peg you as a conservative Florida is a predominantly conservative state it is the second most populated "red" state after Texas. (map near bottom of page) http://www.esri.com/news/arcwatch/1012/how-do-people-lean-politically-in-pivotal-swing-states.html not honestly that the political make up a given state has much relevance to me.

Some day people will see though this bogus "red" state "blue" state crap..... maybe.

Oh yeah how goes the snowy cold weather?:O:

Yeah Florida is full of freaking idiots(most of whom moved here from another state) but show me a state without its fair share of idiots.

I mean I have never been to Utah but seeing as Sailor Steve lives there I could say that Utah is full of grammar Nazis.

I never said I hated everything about those two states and wished everybody who lived there died or anything.

I just think they're crazy states. Am I allowed to think that?

I poke fun at all of the states (Except Wyoming...and Montana...because nothing happens there. You need people for stuff to happen). It's no different than poking fun between branches of the military.

Yeah, I respect all of them (except the Coast Guard...who's not a branch of the military. :O: course I respect all of them) but there's a few stereotypes and goofballs here and there to poke fun at.

For the most part I agree with you, excepting if one happened to be born and raised within the state they are judging. I know I can spot Californian's pretty easy here in Utah, and I don't need to see what the tag is on their vehicle to do it. More often then not, they have a certain attitude and manor that isn't hard to spot.

EDIT:
As a tongue in cheek aside, I think living in a state that is located in hurricane alley, near sea level and surrounded by water on three sides is plain, flat out, nuts!

Well there is hardly a state that is safe from some form of natural disaster.
I have always lived in inland Florida I think it is stupid to live right along the beach like many do that is asking for trouble just from beach erosion much less storms.

I all of roughly 30 years living in Florida I have only been effected by 2 storm one was a massive Nor'easter back in 91(I think) which nailed all of the Eastern Seaboard as far inland as Pennsylvania.

Then in 2004 while on leave no less two hurricanes came through nearly back to back that sucked but it did no serious damage beyond knocking the power out for 2 weeks.

Few people realize that there is a massive fault line in the Eastern US that is still active one day it is going to do some serious damage sooner or later.Or how about the volcanic activity under Yellowstone National park which will cause a massive eruption at some point 5 minutes from or 10,000 years from now (?) so massive that it will cover the entire planet in ash on a scale large enough to possibly cause mass extinction.

Not that bothered.

I'll enjoy my time with a my un-caged bear as I drive down the road in a hurricane while shooting people who text during movies.:O:

By the way I'll be moving to Kentucky to become a partner in my cousins trucking company in the spring so soon the hurricanes won't kill me but the New Madrid fault line or sink holes might kill me up there.

Well, to be fair steelhead, according to the media, you do have more then your fair share of whackjobs in Florida. For what it's worth, i think the guy that decided to be confrontational was in the wrong in instant he decided to be confrontational while carrying. (Or was it he left the theater to go get his gun?) Retired LEO wasn't he? My pet theory is I think he forgot he wasn't wearing a badge anymore.

Well there is hardly a state that is safe from some form of natural disaster.

True. It's either Fires, hurricane's, earthquakes, or tornado's. What differs is the frequency of their occurrence. Where I live, the chance i'll see a hurricane is probably never, a tornado is a big maybe to never, and an earthquake not much more then then. Oh i've heard stories about the "wasatch fault" that have been going around since my wife grew up around here, but I've also heard stories about "The Big one" in california when i grew up there. Neither have happened.

I have always lived in inland Florida I think it is stupid to live right along the beach like many do that is asking for trouble just from beach erosion much less storms.

Oh I agree, but id extend that to any habitation that is at sea level in hurricane alley.

I all of roughly 30 years living in Florida I have only been effected by 2 storm one was a massive Nor'easter back in 91(I think) which nailed all of the Eastern Seaboard as far inland as Pennsylvania.

I think it may have been 92. June or July in 1992 if memory serves me correctly. I was never stationed along the Gulf Coast. Ever. Nah uh. :88)

( By the way, if your familiar with this Ray Stevens song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K16fG1sDagU), there really is, or at least was, a First self Rightous Babtist Church in Pascagoula. I drove right by it. Crazy! )

Then in 2004 while on leave no less two hurricanes came through nearly back to back that sucked but it did no serious damage beyond knocking the power out for 2 weeks.

Well, you have to admit, florida see's forces of natural disaster much more frequently by way of comparison. I think back to when i was(nt) in the gulf coast area, remember the hurricanes that made the news over the last couple decades, then I look at florida on the map, and i just have to say, "That's nuts!"

I think the former LEO "respect my authorita"(Think Cartman from South Park) mentality might have had something to do with it...or maybe his un-caged bear jumped out he window while he was driving to the theater and losing his bear made him onry.

Oh I agree, but id extend that to any habitation that is at sea level in hurricane alley. Well the whole state is not at or below sea level a good portion of the state is at 20 feet or higher above sea level once you get more inland it starts averaging 50-55 feet above sea-level.The highest point in the state is 345ft above sea level.

I find it interesting that I had a fairly difficult time finding a map that showed the actual topographic of Florida but I found plenty of "what if" maps showing the sea-level due to the oceans raising of which i am sure that most are highly accurate....:03:.

I find it rather interesting that New York and New Jersey had so much damage from what was no longer a hurricane by comparison some part of Florida gets hit by a tropical storm every single year yet it causes a substantially lower amount of damage.:hmmm:

Ah yes, the Yellowstone Cauldera. We probably watched the same National geographic documentary. If that thing blows, it will probably kill most everythingI'd be surprised if it kills off all humans though we tend to cling I think it would take a series of mega disasters to kill us off completely.

Anyway I'd just like to say Florida has a new campaign.

"Florida the state where your bear can ride un-caged in true freedom."

"Florida the state that keeps on giving; someday your property might be beach front(we'll raise your property taxes when it happens)."

Yeah but the point is the law is on the books up in Missouri and that is enough to prove that Missouri wishes to trample upon the rights of bears everywhere.
Maybe the law is not enforced because bears are riding in vehicles disguised as humans and no cop has noticed yet.

On a slightly geographical side note, I don't think Yellowstone would 'kill everything', except within about a 100-150 mile radius of the eruption, but it would certainly completely screw most of North America, and likely a fair bit of Western Europe. It would not be a pleasant time, and the countries south of the equator would make a killing from it (the Mexican border would switch polarities overnight) but humanity would survive, America would survive. It would be a big set back, and there would be thousands, if not millions of deaths (mostly from the ash) but things would continue. :yep:

A Cougar you mean? AKA Mountain Lion AKA Panther AKA Puma. It is all the same animal Cougar is the "official" common name though any is right I recon. I suppose it depends on where you see one down in the South East usually it is called Panther.Out in the Rockies they call them Mountain Lions. In Mexcio and Central America and South America Puma is the popular name.

Of course Florida is clearly paralytically awesome because there is a subspecies that only lives in Florida the Florida panther.

The Leopards name is Panthera pardus my guess is that Europeans must have seen and named the Leopard first and then saw the Panther in the New World and thought that it must be the same species and later learned that it is not. So the Spaniards must have started calling them Panthers from the scientific name for Leopard.

Folks that moved to what became the US likely used the same name or best they could pronounce that the Indians used(I bet this is the case with Cougar) and then of course the logical Mountain Lion if you say what you might think was a lion remember no TV in those days and many people could not read.So they might have been described what a lion was and then saw a Panther in the mountains so mountain lion.

Surely Louis and Clark saw some so on their trek maybe they generated the Mountain Lion name that or people heading west who likely had not seen them in less mountainous terrain before came up with it.

EDIT: Cougar comes from a Brazilian tribe the Tupi.
That and I must be bored.

I had been talking about Louisville,KY earlier in the day I guess that the French Louis was in my mind so that is what I typed.

Seems like wild animals having fewer places to go are gradually taking back land so to speak.I don't know about other parts of the country but coyotes are starting to become common in even urban areas.

I think a large cat might have a harder go of it though they have attacked humans out in California bet they might do well enough on neighborhood dogs and cats though.

A blank panther that is still a Cougar,Mountain Lion,Puma that has Melanism basically it is the opposite of Ablisism.Of course the Black Panther is a Cryptid.

Lewis[/B] and Clark. They may have had an Italian liason named Louis, but I doubt it. Unless of course you meant Lois and Clark, in which case I'm in the wrong forum altogether. :O:

Actually if they had an Italian liason, his name would have been Luigi...

(I can't believe I'm actually getting to correct Sailor Steve; a possible sign of the impending Apocalypse?... :D)

You're absolutely right. Louis should have been French.

Why? One of my favorite sayings is that if I had a dollar for every time I've been wrong on these forums I'd have that new computer I keep talking about.
