People on here have made occasional comments and jokes about the flooding in Southern England. I just saw a clip of the flooding on our news. All I have to say is, prayers to my friends in England. May the flooding end soon and all will be able to recover.

The flooding could be with us until May according to some of the 'experts'.

I love all the loopy conspiracy theories about this flooding in Britain. It's similar to the artificial "nanobot snow" ones we have currently in the US.

For some, it's a simple case of the all-powerful European Union imposing their crazed environmental policies on the UK. Others see it as a plot to drive the inhabitants of the area out, so that massive industrial scale fracking can proceed on the land. But all the conspiracists seem to agree that the hydrologists who say that it's largely due to a neglected and mismanaged levels drainage system disastrously failing to cope with an extraordinary leather event are talking sheeple talk. Lord knows it never floods in Somerset.

An extraordinary leather event sounds fun.

I blame it all on killing the beavers - they would have dammed upstream. Oh, and building on flood-plains of course (there is a hint in the name).

When I was young we always blamed the Russians.

Whatever the reason, those poor buggers are certainly likely to suffer for at least a month more yet.

A bit ironic when you consider how much overseas aid has been given to alleviate those suffering from similar (and I don't mean identical) circumstances.

Speaking of ships, one in the Channel just got hit by a freak wave, one passenger has been killed and another air-lifted to hospital. The Marco Polo, I believe was the name. Also a ferry from the Isle of Wight has dropped anchor in the Solent as it is unable to make headway.
Poole Harbour is recording gusts of 77.1mph.

There is sun, but that just means we get a clear view of the trees being blown to a 45° angle in these gale force winds.

I'm alright, I'm on the other side of the island from it, we had our trouble with last years North Sea Surge, but thankfully the post-1953 defences held.

In fact, I live around where America thinks London is:

In the latest news, as a result of the disastrous flooding in England the government has requested everyone to calm down as they simply don't have the financial resources to help all of the flood victims at the moment.

In other news, the government is fully supporting the 40 billion pound HS2

Which is quite handy since, due to a tunnel infrastructure problem, transport has been a bit patchy up north today around the Kilsby tunnel area.

Hmm now that's an idea. Why don't you just let all the water gurgle off through the channel tunnel, towards France ..

I suspect that is the least of peoples worries, those that are affluent enough to own property in the area.

I suspect what would be greatly appreciated by them would be government intervention with the insurance companies to fast track claims and remedial measures.
