just done complete reinstall of basic stock, due to failure to allow fuel restrictions, and added RSRDC and tried to load FJB Navigation Maps (5.87 MB) but does not work - should I try loading manually into folders.

Load it into your jsgme mods folder then enable from jsgme.:salute:

Did that, tried two different ones, no dice.

Did you have anything in your roaming cache files or user data files regarding silent hunter 4 and if so did you delete them before your new install?

Read this about new installations and see if there was something you missed:

yes, deleted all including saves and then did a deep scan which removed remaining data for SH4, did install and then added patch, then went to enabler and added rsrdc (latest) and pacific sound mod, and then tried two versions of map mods of which both uploaded, then addeed narwhal mod, that works, and then created narwhal career, but when i left port maps are bog standaed

Map in right now are FJB Navigation maps

do I need to add TMO 2.5 to the uploaded mods too?

Check the folder structure of the mod in your MODS folder. For instance, if you try the color map, you should have this:

..\MODS\FJB Color Navigation Map\Data

With two more folders inside Data, and folders inside those. An incorrect folder is the only reason I can think of why JSGME wouldn't work, other than a corrupted extraction.

You do not have to use TMO unless the map mod is specifically made for it. Are you using the RSRD patch?? I would not think not using the patch would affect the map mods but it certainly will helping with RSRD.

Are you sure both of those map mods are necessary? Does one over write anything in the other and are they compatible with each other?

not using both, but trying different ones, and none work. I do not have TMO loaded that was just a passing thought.

contents of FJB:

3 folders - brown, colour, two tone and nav pdf; in each of these folders there is a data folder containing - shaders, terrain and textures in these each have low and hi and tex folders

What does "does not work" mean? Do you not notice a difference in game(play) compared to before the enabling of the mods. Or does the game crash at some point?

This is an important distinction to isolate the probable cause.

[EDIT]Please write down exactly how this mod is named and placed (with it's immediate subfolders )in your MODS folder.

It should NOT be like:

SilentHunter4\MODS\FJB_Navigation_Maps\FJB Two Tone Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)
SilentHunter4\MODS\FJB_Navigation_Maps\FJB Color Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)
SilentHunter4\MODS\FJB_Navigation_Maps\FJB Brown Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)

If you have the above, you will also find a file in this folderpath: SilentHunter4\FJB_Navigation_Maps\FJB Navigation Maps.pdf
This wil do no harm though.

You should have the 3 map-submods as seperate in the MODS folder for enabling to work correctly: (and nothing in between)

MODS\FJB Two Tone Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)
MODS\FJB Color Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)
MODS\FJB Brown Navigation Map\Data\ (etc.)

The pdf would then be located in the MODS folder, which would not be copied to the game folder. So you either put it in the SilentHunter4\docs folder manualy. Or add a docs folder to each submod, and place a copy of the pfd in each, or whichever you intend to use.

I'm on about the maps not the mods. The map mod does not work, the map is exactly the same as in 'stock'.

I am thinking of taking all the mods out, and going back to stock, then put maps in (FJB Nav Maps) and see if any of the mods is obviously conflicting.

There shouldn't be any conflict with another mod. I don't think TMO or RFB change the maps for instance. And if they did, they would only do it if you installed them after my mod.

If JSGME is installing other mods properly, then it shouldn't have any problem with this mod. Unless the extraction went wrong.

Understood Fred, working on it. your mod is so good its GO TO go in.

I took everything down to stock

added FJB's maps
added pacific sound mod
added new narwhal K v1.5

nothing, maps still stock

Just curious ... those mods weren't double foldered were they?

If they were it would show as installed without doing a thing to the game.

Not: Hard drive: silent hunter\mods\this map mod\this map mod

Good:Hard drive: silent hunter\mods\this map mod

Just checking

good point merc but they are held in JSGME 'mods' folder and I activate or deactivate directly from there. Would it be better if I add the folders/files for the maps directing into the software.

I have tried reinstall, stock, rsrdc - the map mod does not work in any, nor does it work on saved boats not brand new boats.

I double checked the JSGME mod folder its 'mod/ and then the mod folder' so thats as it should be

I download FJB maps again and extracted to JSGME. Folderrs showing are colour, brown and two tone, I chose colour and it istalled. I noew have RSRDC, Pacific sound mod and colour map folder loaded , does not change maps.

The mod has inserted because it tells me when I tried to add bornw folder. Could it be because I have an HD 24 inch monitor, using an HD lead??

Your monitor shouldn't have anything to do with it. Frankly, I'm stumped. :06:

Since all else has failed, the only thing I can suggest is taking the two folders inside the "Data" folder of the mod you want to use, and copy or move them to the "Data" folder of your SH4 install. Let it overwrite the existing folders and files when it asks. You will lose the stock versions of the files this way, unless you rename them first.

I'm stumped too, its weird. I also thought it might be win 8.1 but the software all runs fairly smoothly.

I'll do a manual input and rename the stock files. Get back on this, I am on night shifts now.

It must be your folderstructure that is incorrect. I enabled one of the 3 maps, while I had RFB 2.0+RSRDC (but the latter does nothing with the changed files), but also stock SH4 1.5. I get a changed colorscheme on the navigation map as it should look.

Show us a screenshot of the MODS folder tree in Explorer, with all subfolders folded out.

Or you must have other mods that mixed up your system and it is looking for the wrong filenames.

I do not run my mods from the jsgme mod folder. I keep them in the silent hunter mod folder only. This avoids errors.

JSGME is in my root silent hunter folder with its icon on the deck top. I do not use it for any other game so putting it in the silent hunter folder works more efficiently.

Even if I did have other games I used it for I could simply place a separate copy of JSGME in each game root folder and have a separate icon for each on the desktop. That way each desktop icon points only to that games mod folder and none others and not JSGME.

Check this for proper installation of JSGME:

Question: Where did you install SH4? If it was the default of C:\Program Files\, that could be the problem. Someone reported pretty much the same problem in the Mods forum, and said it got fixed when he uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it somewhere other than the default. It's possible the Windows User Account Control safety feature is preventing JSGME from allowing the files in the game to be overwritten.
