I have just managed to pass the Naval Academy anti-aircraft section (Marineflugabwehrschule) with 'Excellent' having downed all the planes except one Hurricane - I had no ammunition left but then neither did the Hurricane!
This was with GWX3 and Stiebler's revised Hsie V16B1 patch (longer repair times etc.) so probably quite difficult.
I had previously failed to get a better than 'Average' result but this time, before opening fire with a Petty Officer manning the Flak gun, I set a course in a general direction away from the majority of the attackers with numerous random 90 degree turns every 500 Metres. I then set the speed to 'Full Ahead' and ordered the gunner to fire at closing bombers first. At the same time I moved as many crew members as possible to the damage control team and monitored damage closely because with the V16B1 patch some damage would now take hours to repair. Fortunately damage was light although 'hull integrity' after the mission was down to less than 50%. The five Swordfish torpedo bombers were shot down quite quickly and none of their torpedoes hit home - unfortunately my first gunner was killed by machine gun fire from the last Swordfish to go down and that also damaged the flak gun. The interruption while repairs were carried out, allowed one of the Hurricanes to drop a bomb close enough to cause flooding (and probably accounting for the diminished 'hull integrity') but after repairs were completed and the gunner replaced, two of the Hurricanes were shot down at the expense of my last 140 rounds of ammunition.
