I bought SH5 after watching a 'Let's Play' video on youtube on Monday this week. It looked quite interesting and I loved the idea of being a Sea Wolf!
So I loaded the game up without really reading much about how to play, or even looking at the manual. I usually do this, as most games these days are so dumbed down and forgiving, you can learn on the fly. After spending about 45 minutes trying to work out the manual targetting on my own (yes, I am somewhat stubborn), I was ready to give up. Instead I decided to cave and actually look or ask for help.
After reading these forums for an hour and downloading some mods (particularly TDW's interface - major props to him for his work), I was able to safely navigate out of Kiel and get to my destination.
I've gradually improved my skill set and last night managed to sink a 6 ship Merchant task-force without being detected. It was probably the most gratifying gaming experience I've had in years! The tension, the patience and the calculations make this genre so damn rewarding.
So I want to say thanks to you all - for all of your knowledge and helpful hints found on these forums. You helped me stick with it and appreciate the game.
P.s. I've also bought SH3 and SH4 and will play those too!
