Seems like a terrible place to have the games when you look at the climate there. Even overlooking all of the issues that have arisen the past few days. Either way I am curious what others think about the location and issues arising so far.

And if you have anything artical wise explaining the location choice PLEASE please post it I am having trouble locating a decent explaination (other than the artical below).

Seriously, the Black Sea region is pretty much the garden spot of modern Russia. It's not like accommodations are better in Novaya Zemlya.

There are some sports, I'm going to watch during the Olympic

As an animal friend it make me cry when I see and read how they kill the stray dogs that run around Sochi

One could almost feel ashamed as a German. The German outfit fully owes to political hypercorrectness. Anyone saying different, deceives himself or is not aware of the status of public discussion about homosexuality over here. Its an ideologically wanted hysteria.

And even if the anything but subtle protest would not be there - it causes eye cancer to watch that elementary school painting design. Looks terrible, awful, infantile. 5 year old girls like to wear such stuff.

At least the Russians now know that Germans never again will send legions against them. People being idiotic enough to wear such clothes, obviously are not fit for aggressive wars anymore. :D

Official statements.

Well.

:haha:

I recall an interview on TV two weeks ago, and the first question the interviewer asked the German athlete was how he plans to express his protests on behalf of the gay issue. As if German athletes have any obligation to go to a sports competition in order to deliver the purpose of some ideologic project or some political protest. :/\\!! And there was naive me thinking athletes go to a championship to compete and trying to win...?! :timeout:

Just read that so much criticism is aimed at Sochi now, including my reference to the toilets. But one has to be fair, probably. I expect that most Russians know about the Putinism factor in these games, and the emperor demanding his games, and the expropriation and all that. Still, I also expect - as I believe and think of the Russian soul, as far as I could try that - that again a majority of Russians are liking the show in their country nevertheless, are proud and inspired and joyful. The mistake was to give the games to Sochi, and to let Putin run it. The correct target for attack is the Olympic Committee for Corruption and Bribery - and that hardly got voted for by the ordinary Russian citizen who now has good hopes to see his country representing itself well to the world. Now that the games are there, let's not spoil it for the ordinary Russians, and maybe leave the show being show, and spare the neverending Western criticism and attacks and mockery and kidding for after Olympia is over - and trying to leave politics and gay ideology out of this. In the end, the Olympic movement has no reason to be too proud of itself, considering how far it has already betrayed the Olympic ideals and values.

If there is a thing one wants to complain about during the games, then it probably is that experts and insiders say that at least 60% of the athletes in these games will be doped.

desertstriker
02-08-14, 07:48 PM
I think those estimates for doping are high. Doping tests are mandatory for medal winners, and are random for athletes anyways/. As long as russia isn't the one testing for it considering how corruption runs rampant.

I think those estimates for doping are high. Doping tests are mandatory for medal winners, and are random for athletes anyways/. As long as russia isn't the one testing for it considering how corruption runs rampant.

I thiunk it is low, because doping screening is behind active doping techniques by several years - that is what it as lie already 4 and 8 years ago, insiders say. Also, the anti doping agency is dripping with corruption and mole personnell, experts say. That si why many heavy wieghts of anti-doping hgave rtetired over the past 3-4 years. If asked they said they gave up because the fight is hopeless. Doping since years has gone to the genetic level already. It may damage the doping person years later, but as long as he/she is active, is not possible to discover it (China leading in this, I read).

I think they< shoudl equalise the chances - by legalise doping, giving the health question back to where it belongs - the atheletes, and stop telling the audience naive garbage about the issue. In the end, it is all show, professional athletes for the most are entertainers and showmasters, like gladiators were. So let everybody try his own recipe, if that is what's it worth it for him/her.

The militaristic drill of young kids in Chinese sport colleges, to produce like in a factory the next generation of medal winners for the honour and pride of the Chinese state, is something that worries me much, much more than doping, because these victims indeed have no choice to make their own decision.

Going to tell you an idea I have had for years if not decades.

First a little background to why I developed this idea.

Many years ago the Swedish Olympic committee had asked the Swedish government for additional 200 million Swedish kroner for "additional contingency payments"(can't remember the exact phrase) another words for "need money to bribe the IOC members. This was on the Swedish news.

Then I started to create my idea.

I wrote it down, made lots of changes and when I thought it looked OK I send this proposal to the Swedish part of IOC and the International IOC.

I got of course no responds to my proposal. It was however, like my friends said, a proposal that would make them unemployed and that's not in their interest.

Here's a few points from my idea

1. Every country should have an Olympic secretary. This can either be independent or be subject to one of the country's Minister of Culture, for example

1. Every country can apply to hold an Olympic Games
(Here it could be possible to make some extra rules, like the country should be a democracy a.s.o)
2. The country's government gives their commitment to the stands for the cost of the requested Olympic games. Or more governments, if two or more countries join forces to organize an Olympic Games.

There's many more.

Once this is done, the government or governments send the papers to its Olympic secretary or secretaries, if two or more countries cooperate. When the secretary or secretaries receive the papers, they check if this country or countries observe the specified procedures.

When everything is OK, the secretary sign the papers and send them to the International Olympic Secretary, who could have it's Resident in some European country.

Even this Secretary check the papers and check if it's OK that this country or countries can apply. When this is done and everything is OK she write the country's or countries name on a piece of a paper and place it in a little plastic ball and thereafter the Secretary place this little ball
in a big bowl. This bawl will be visible to the general public.

And instead of all these meetings and bribery, this secretary make some kind of lottery and draw a winner and a secondary country.

This secondary country is just in case if the first drawn withdraw it's.

I know this was huge piece of nothing.

It's was because I was tired of all these politics and bribery.

Markus

In some words and phrases I used Google translate, I there apologize for some weird sentence

The whole Olympics is a giant land redistribution scheme. But yes, the probably are close with Putin, the merciless oligarch-slayer (if they try to take on the state).

I also read that all athletes received three dozen IOC-sponsored condoms. Germany's multiple medal winner Höfl-Riesch said last year that all Olympic games she participated in were giant orgies behind the scenes. Which maybe is no surprise with so many good-looking, well-trained bodies all around.

I got news for her, That kind of crap doesn't belong in the Olympics in any way, shape or form. Just like the black power protest in the Summer games that one time.
I really really think Fox news should just shut their pie holes on everything. All they do is interject their opinions instead of providing the unbiased news of the day.:nope:

In regard to the behind the scenes sexual exploits, Remember what went on in the early Olympics in Greece?

That's right. A lot of Cowboy butt sex. Well, all of the participants were male in those days.

Canada beats Finland 2-1 in overtime. Finland's goalie, Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins, was the best player on the ice. Drew Doughty, L.A. Kings got both Canadian goals. That was nerve wracking. Is it too early for a drink?:O:

Yeah Canada missed an opportunity there. But losing the game could have meant a quarter final against Russia, so we avoided that. We still need some fine tuning. But at the end of the day you are going to eventually have to square off against the top teams.

If Sweden wins against Austria or slovenia. Sweden are to meet either Finland/Russia or Norway.

Well When it comes to the finns...it's brotherly love between those two countries regarding Ishockey. The finns don't care if they lose every game, but they give everything to beat the big brother Sweden.

Russia is a totally different story.

Here's a little off topic story.

I was babysitting for my little sister and was watching a World Cup match between Sweden and Finland. The neighbor above was from Finland.

In the second period Sweden scored two times in about 5 minutes. From above I heard loud Finnish swearing. In the third period the Swede made 2 more goal even more swearing from above. Right after the game was finish. I heard not only swearing but a lot of noises and then the sound of a window that got broken.

The next day when I left my sister and my brother-in-law, I saw a broken TV laying on the lawn and some glasses spread around.

There was an interview with a Slovene reporter in Sochi Slavko Jeric and he claimed that most of the ''sad state of acomodations'' tweets were utter bollocks and not one room was given a picture with Putin.

He also said that there was a lot of small groups of reporters taking pictures of an ordinary construction site not far from the hotels.

From a rough translation from google. Sounds like shambles to me and he seems to be contradicting much of what he is saying, see orange colored sentences.
"People are friendly and give a positive impression
Jeric in Sochi on 4 February , so he can convince myself about the state of the Olympic village and venues prior to the opening of the games. " Well, I think we have reporters in the first days even too many negative reports on the state . Admittedly, the first few days ( before the start of the game) things were not regulated , but in the background were other games and outstanding debts ( many subcontractors were not paid and work is stalled ) . organization itself but it seems to me very good , everything runs like clockwork , even logistics . People are friendly and are trying to make a positive impression , "he answered in a chat room .

He added: " As for negative reporting . I got the feeling that quite a few tweets have been " set " . Talked to some reporters and no one has seen toilets with two shells, one did not get pictures with Putin at the hotel. ( Of course, perhaps I'm wrong and there are such cases , but such was my feeling ) . "

I agree, I don't think the ref selection ( if anything they will be overly cautious ) will make a difference, the teams will decide the outcome. So far I have not noticed much regarding the refereeing in games that I have watched ( men or women's ), and that's a good thing :yep:

A quote from one of the officials:

“The main factor of the selection of these officials has most of all to do with their experience officiating in high-level competitions,” IIHF officiating manager Konstantin Komissarov said Saturday in a release. “These include Stanley Cup playoffs, world championship competitions and Olympic competitions.”

Yes tomorrow at 1 pm, everything is almost shut down in Sweden. Well it happens almost every time Sweden play in a tournament such as World cup or the Olympics. The same happened when Ingmar Stenmark was rushing down in slalom in the 80'ies.

Good luck against the Swedes.

Double thanks, especially the Bieber part : )

Incorrect. Loser of today's game gets Silver (that is ofcourse Canada) and winner gets Gold (Sweden naturally). As usual losers of semifinals fought about Bronze yesterday and as we now know it ended into Finland crushing USA (5-0: 0-0, 2-0, 3-0).

I always like these posts. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Great game against a great Sweden team.

Canada baby!!

Say what? :D

May the best team win!

I expected a much better game from Sweden. In their defense they were missing three good forwards, Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Henrik Sedin. Backstrom was a scratch at game time. But I don't think it would have mattered. Canada did not make any mistakes in any of their games. They were like a machine in this one. Glad Sid got a goal.

Kudos to Stevie Yzerman, he took some flak for his player selection, but he is golden now.

Of all the medals Canada won, this is the one we wanted most. It's a good day.

:D As long as Sweden crushes USA/Canada in final I have no reason to complain.

You have the floor. :O:

:haha: We beat you in the preliminary round and we would have beat you again. Congrats though to that old Winnipeg Jet, Teemu Selänne for winning IIHF MVP award. Always liked him.

Sorry that Swedes couldn't kick your butt this time.

You Scandinavians are good on skies but we own this game. Now excuse me, I gotta go look for a bigger hat.:O:

On the other hand a Grand Prix champion (which one I don't remember at the moment) once said "Second Place? Third Place? There's the winner and there's everybody else!" Implying that "everybody else" are all losers. :O:

To put it another way:

Second place is first loser.:smug:

Dunno who said it.

Go easy now kraznyi, I don't think one Canadian here said at the outcome we were going to win. That one goes to yourself. Let's just say we both love our hockey and our country and leave it at that. There will be lot's more games to be played in the future.

Cheers to all the great athletes and countries who took part in the games!!

Well there is a nasty rumor going round that the NHL will not release players for the 2018 games. Some owners don't like the three week loss of income and the injuries to their players. Zetterberg, H. Sedin, Datsyuk and Tavares, all valuable assets for the owners. Lets hope it's not true. After all Canada has a reputation to defend and we like to give you guys another shot.:D
