The answer is that it wasn't.
It's not a photo but a painting by Gregory Thielker

Amazing! I wish my photos were as good.
The closest I come to drawing is to draw money out of the bank.
Wow, he painted that while he was driving? Good thing the cops didn't show up.
Amazing work.
The technique and eye those guys have must be incredible.

Well....it is a photo of a painting is it not? My guess would be it was taken with a camera.

Actually there are now two. :O:
While I find these truly amazing, and the talent involved is almost beyond understanding, the question I can't escape is that when a painting can exactly duplicte a photograph, what's the point? Why not just take the photograph?

Because they can ....it is art...
It also makes people drop their jaws.:haha:

I think there is arguably more skill in creating a painting than taking a photograph.
Mind you, I'm a lot better at photography :O:

I didn't say otherwise. :sunny:

Without question. My only point was to wonder why someone would want to spend the time and effort making a painting that is indistinguishable from a photograph. Of course MH's answer is certainly the correct one, and I think it's fantastic that they can do this. I just fail to see why. But then I fail at a lot of things.

Why not just take the photograph?
Easy, because that would be against some traffic law.
Much safer to dig out your oil paints and a 30x40" canvas when stuck in traffic.

In a way, I agree with Steve. The artists do show tremendous talent and the works are very much worthy of praise. I, however, want my paintings to look like paintings, not photographs. I have several oil on canvas, and water color paintings made by various artists. They are all beautiful, but you can look at them and tell they are paintings. And to me, that's what makes them beautiful and unique. :salute:
